Some women write that they are looking for an "alpha male." I'm not certain they truly understand what an alpha male is. I submit it is a cultural derivative of the "alpha wolf." I think for some women they have the idea that an "alpha male" is an aggressive, kick as*, take no prisoners, have no need for anyone else, type of guy. Researchers who have studied wolves for a number of years would disagree with this comparison. Richard McIntyre who studied wolves for many years summarized the alpha wolf in this way:
“The main characteristic of an alpha male wolf is a quiet confidence, quiet self-assurance. You know what you need to do; you know what’s best for your pack. You lead by example. You’re very comfortable with that. You have a calming effect.”
