Has anyone honestly met people here or...?! Friendship

Hi I am new here too. I haven't met anyone on this site but have met some nice people on other sites. The biggest problem I have with online dating is that most people are geographically incompatible so for now I am just looking to meet some new people for friendship or whatever.

I haven't met anyone from here, but I signed up and then forgot about it, lol! But on the other two sites I'm on, I've met about six guys and two were con artists. Most cons are easy to detect, but some you have to see them live to figure it out. Anyway, I was too quick for them. As to the legit. guys, I just wasn't attracted to them. I need that spark. And I've got to see that spark for me in his eyes as well. Oh, well, it's better than the bar scene. Or is it?.....

There are all sorts or people on this forum z71 - lol. At least she's "open" about it and doesn't pretend she doesn't care about the money. It would be worse if a woman went on and on about how money is not important because she has her own etc etc and then ended up dumping someone because he wasn't wealthy enough. I'm sure there are plenty of those around too.

sexyprincess, i can't believe your profile.

"Make sure you have a lot of money or don't contact me."

Why don't you just go rob a bank.

well short of going on conference line at a specified time where we have a sort of panel discussion of conversation, where we hear each other's voices and views, it is the best option open at the moment. In fact I have just responded to the MM guys advising them to re-think about charging a lower rate for members who only want to participate on the forum esp those who are not in US and the time zone difference meant that they can't fully use the IM to their advantage..also having free forum service would make this site unique in the face of all the other competitive sites..after all it is word of mouth that is the best also allow those who have found their match like Mandalay and Fun to continue to contribute to Forum and be their best advocate...
I m a very funny girl, almost a mad hatter if I m not writing thesis or serious topics and legal letters to various public Sharp and Min..u are right to the extent that there is a limit to how the forum projects us ..but at least it is better than just IM or a flat profile...I have made some great friends here and it is a good interactive site when I have some spare moments in between work ..I find it therapeutic chatting to all of you here instead of just boring legal minds and musicians and performing artists now...just wish more men would come on board..tell u what I have been doing so far since I just paid up, is to click on the nice guys on IM and send them a message to come to the forum..a few are not even aware of will see how effective my sales pitch girls look out for some nice guys who might suddenly I would encourage that all of you do the same..send them all an open invitation to join the forum..:)

Yes Sharp - I know what you mean. It's just a small look at one's personality, not the whole picture. What the Forum does quite effectively though (I think) is it does show how well people are able to convey their thoughts and how they communicate in writing, which does say a lot already. If someone on here is arrogant or too sarcastic with others and flies off the handle easily that would be a red flag for me because that sort of behaviour is a pretty accurate portrayal of what that person would be like in real life, in situations of conflict.
But regarding myself - I'm a bit like you - I come across as a bit more serious (I think..??) although I do joke around quite a bit on here with a few people. But I always think carefully before posting and don't open up completely - I can't. This is a public forum. I don't like to wash my dirty laundry in public or confide in the whole world about my problems. In person I can be a bit crazier, more spontaneous etc....

Minerva, Bonnie, & Alpine...I agree with what you are all saying. The forums do give us a chance to get a small insight into one's personality. But not always. In real life, I laugh and joke around alot, especially with my son/daughter & their friends. I like to tease, and they tease me back. We are always laughing.
On these forums, that side of my personality rarely comes out. Instead I come across as a more serious type! lol Of course I do have my serious moments in life too, but not ALL the time. This weekend, the past two days, a lighter side of my personality came out while kidding around with Look and 5w's on the forums. That was the first time. I've been on here since mid-January. I've no guarantees that it will show again in the near future, because it all depends on what brings that part of me out. There could be others on these forums similar. It takes time and the right mixture of people to inspire your natural personality to show on these forums. Also a comfort zone.

Yes the women outnumber the men, but isn't that always the case?
The Forum is a good place to figure out what a person is like - how he interacts with others, how polite or nice he is to others and what he likes to talk about and how he sees relationships etc... and if he makes you laugh!
Haven't met anyone yet. What I like is that I've made a few women friends and look forward to meeting them in the near future! That's good enough for me!

stop by to say hi...but the trouble with his forum is we have far too many lovely ladies and so few men ..wish they know where to search..I have been telling the men who mail me to find out about me here rather than go on a long drawn correspondence or IM ..
which will fizzle out after a while...all those men are sure missing on something far more interesting and fun by missing this forum ...

I haven't had much experience with internet sites, but I wonder if part of the problem is the fact that you tend to "pre-screen" or filter down the people you put in your favourites list.

Whereas in my (albeit limited) experience, the two other long term relationships I have had in my life were with people that I would not have chosen off an internet site; i.e. love comes when it's least expected! Maybe it's a case if you are too selective to begin with, you are limiting yourself and don't find the one who really clicks with you.

Incidentally, I think these forums are a great idea, as people tend to be themselves on it, and it's a good way of finding out what people are really like, in (almost) everyday conversation.

Hello, yes I have met several off of this site. Most were nice, but not my type. One other was awesome to look at , but ended up being a jerk..He chased after me for some time. I knew just what he wanted, because he could not have a sentence without saying "I bet you are as good in bed, as you look." I wish he had started out talking like this, then I would not have met him. My mistake.

I would like to know if there are any romances on here that ended up in marriage? I am new here and it seems to have the quality of people that I am looking for. Everyone is so great looking. I enjoy reading this forum and it gives me alot of information. For that I thank you! I am open to relocating for the right person, wouldn't most of us? A warmer climate would be wonderful. Please stop by and say hi to me.

Yes there are some great guys on here. Distance is a problem in when you find someone who is a good choice there is always the risk of them or you finding someone closer. Sometimes it can not be helped. What i always commend is when that does happen that they write you a very long and sincere letter stating the facts. There is no fault here just bad timing. But sometimes it just takes time to get that right one.....

You are so right bfd...there may be 1 or 2 from Calgary, 10 in the Province of Alberta...and 200 across Canada!!! In an age range from 22 to 64...considering I'm looking for 44 to 48 pickings around here are pretty slim! And those pickings there are, well only one am I attracted too...and considering he hasn't been able to keep his word 3 times already, the chances of us meeting are slim! lol
Where do I see myself in 1.5 yrs? Not on this site. Not in Calgary. Probably will not have met anyone. I'll probably be travelling the World...challenging my own fear of travelling alone. And MAYBE, just MAYBE, by the grace of God, I'll get lucky as a good friend of mine did 15 yrs ago and I will meet a wonderful man in my travels.
    How about you?

hiya! Well I am pretty new here and I am tryingto get a feel of this site. :) I have been on other sites too, which gave me the opportunity to meet some great people! And developed great friendships. Hopefully this site will do the same! :)
    Nice to meet you all!

I have not met anyone on this site, but I will admit I do not want to have children and that certainly narrows the field. I also explain my some of my view points which are probably more liberal than the view points most of the gentlemen have. You would not want to date a clone of yourself but it just makes sense if your values are more similar the more successsful the relationship is likely to be. So I may not be representative of most ladies on the site
