Age and the dating game. Sort by:

I have always been amazed at the number of glass ceilings being shattered in today's times. When I was a young girl, a woman's place was in the kitchen. Now woman are astronauts! I honestly believe I was born 40 years too yearly. But still one of those glass ceilings that is still being chipped away at, but not broken, is age in the dating game. While no one blinks an eye at a 60+ year old man with a 30 something companion, a 60+ year old woman cannot find a companion because she us labeled as "too old" to date....And, a 60+ year old woman with a 50 year old companion?....she is labeled a "cougar." I would like to say that, as a 60+ year old woman, having a companion is not off the tables. Having a companion who is younger may be a surprise, because I have the same drives as a man my age or younger. I scuba dive, roller blade, cross country ski, tandem sky dive, roller coaster....Does that sound like I am ready for a rocking chair? I am realistic, I acknowledge, as a mature woman, a bikini may not look as good on me as it used to, but who's looking when it's covered by a wet suit anyway? I am interested in knowing what the others on this site think, and words of wisdom from both genders.

I have a shape, but most women dont like it lol I was an athlete more many years, and can tell you that body types are deceiving. I'm a big man, and my doxtor tells me that my heart is like a 30 year old or younger.

KeyWester ,

You speak from your heart and I understand you very well .

You are conscious about your age so do I because we know

very well our limitations as years go by. AGE do come with

our Anatomy and Physiology ..it is a good trait because we know what is to be and what not to be ..

Eversince I never had suitors my age ..I think we used to attract

younger males ..It started when I was 11 yrs. Old , a 5 yr. Old boy came by and brought me flowers and he was my ardent suitor until College ..When I was in College ,Highschool boys

oggled me and sent love letters ..and goes on until now ..Young Drs. Want to have a date with me which I usually turned down

and tell them ..so you want to have a date with your Mom or Auntie a. maybe Grandma ..Well because I know its my fate , I accepted that fact and have BF's younger than me but I put a limit with 10 yrs .younger and keep with it .

I wish you all the best and Goodluck ..

Quoting MsStannCreek:

It is a little more difficult because the men our age is out of shape. Also we are more independent.

MsStann, You remind me of a young Vanessa Williams back when she was still crazy beautiful. I hope you aren't wasting all that on old men.

I wouldn't know about dating older men because I never have. I've always dated younger. Most of the men that ask me out are usually between 10-15 years younger than me. Virility is a must for me when considering marrying someone, and an older man can't get the job done. All the woman in my family married younger men and oddly, they are the only women I know that are still sexually satisfied despite being in their 50's and 60's. All my girl friends that married older constantly complain about the lack in the bedroom. Never to his face of course, but always behind his back. Maybe when I'm 90 I won't care if a man care offer great lovemaking anymore, but until then, it is still on the top of my priority list.

You're exactly right! To be completely frank here, I have always been attracted to older women.  Mostly because of the grace, knowledge, and wisdom that older women seem to carry. I have personally never had the privilege of dating or being in a relationship with an older woman. I truthfully would prefer that. But from what I see (and I can only speak from my experience here), it just appears now that alot of older women are getting the backlash from older men. Just as you mentioned, about a 60+ year old man being with a 20 or 30 something woman, it automatically translates to  "She's just with him for his money". And with older women dating younger men, the backlash is that "She is just with him because he sexually satisfies her" "Why can't she find someone her own age" Then the labels come as you mentioned about older women being too old to date, being ostracized in public because people want to be just prejudiced or judgmental about everything.

I face that somewhat as a black man who is looking to be in a serious relationship. The labels that we are no good, we are nothing but dogs, players, and deadbeat dads, and all we do is say "yo yo baby" and all that stuff. That a black man can't speak clear, concise, and articulate correctly. I tell people I love to go to the opera, and I get stupid looks like I have no idea what the opera is, but then I start talking about Turandot, or Aida, or Philip Glass's Satyagraha, then I get looked at with amazement.

So I understand completely where you are coming from with this. The simple prejudices that engulf humanity, should have came to an end some time ago but are still here. Some people are just not adaptable to time. That's an unfortunate reality.
