I've been thinking about tips for a first date night. That first date can be a lot of stress because neither of you know what to expect out of the other person.

Here are some of the things I'm thinking you should do:

1. Make a real plan for the night- rather than just meet up and decide when you get together, I think a real plan is important. It's hard enough for long-term couples to come up with plans.

2. Understand expectations for being physical- it's likely that both people are going to have their own expectations of how physical to be on the first date. I think you should talk about it ahead of time so there isn't any awkwardness.

3. Use conversation starters- I think you can be so nervous on your first date that it can be hard to come up with a topic outside of the surface conversations. It's a lot of fun to read a few conversation starter questions so you can have a discussion that is out of the ordinary. You learn a lot more about someone that way.

4. Decide who will pay for what- to avoid that awkward question from the waiter, "One check or two?", you should decide how to handle paying ahead of time.

What are some other first date night tips?
