Recently, a very kind Friend sent me the following story. I would like to share it with all of you, including my reply to Her below it. ...Feel free to comment, as you may wish :-

" Manure : In the 16th and 17th centuries, everything for export had to be transported by ship. It was also before the invention of commercial fertilizers, so large shipments of manure were quite common.

It was shipped dry, because in dry form it weighed a lot less than when wet, but once water (at sea) hit it, not only did it become heavier, but the process of fermentation began again, of which a by-product is methane gas.

As the stuff was stored below decks in bundles you can see what could (and did) happen. Methane began to build up below decks and the first time someone came below at night with a lantern, BOOOOM! Several ships were destroyed in this manner before it was determined just what was happening.

After that, the bundles of manure were always stamped with the instruction ' Stow high in transit ' on them, which meant for the sailors to stow it high enough off the lower decks so that any water that came into the hold would not touch this "volatile" cargo and start the production of methane.

Thus evolved the term ' S.H.I.T ' , (Stow High In Transit) ,…

“So it’s really not a swear word” which has come down through the centuries and is in use to this very day. You probably did not know the true history of this word. Neither did I I had always thought it was a golfing term ".... M.

It's a nice story, M., but I'm afraid to tell you that.... It sounds like pure Bull-shit. No where is there any evidence of such ' crap ' !

If you have the real source of this story, kindly let us know.

Otherwise, you may flush it down the err, ! § ..whatever.

Any news with your project, or have you scrapped it ?

In other news, I posted a Thank You note, for you, on the father's day blog. You may check it out (only when you're in a good mood, not shitty) ... just kidding, you always are sweet.

Aren't you Dear Maggie ?

It's great to see you, safely back from the camping trip. Although the Camper is a far cry from the Hemi-powered Barracuda and Challenger. But of course, it has a refrigerator for those important thirst quenchers. !

Now that's pretty creative with the ' F ' word, but again, who knows the real truth, about anything anymore ?

We are at a strange point in intelligence evolution, it seems.

Stay Safe & Cool,

Very interesting indeed. There is a program on NETFLIX that is hosted by Nicolas Cage, I think it is called swear words. They explain where some of these words came from and how old they are. Some are pretty funny.......the famous "F" word stands for "fornication under consent from the king". Who knew???? lol
