One of the hardest things for me when I became single was the quiet house, the lack of companionship. But over time, once I settled in, I found that I really enjoyed the solitude most of the time. In fact, I really DO enjoy my own company! I have learned that I have to count on my own abilities in many instances but have lots of friends who can help me when I need it. (Hanging shelves today was fun...not) Yes, it is lonely at times, but I find that being involved in activities that take me out of myself help immensely. Service in the community is a wonderful way to get grateful and find joy as well as a way to be "part of" something bigger than just my self pity. I love people and doing things in service give me a satisfaction I never got from a relationship with one person.
