IM or Messaging ??? Message Board Forward to friends

Have the rules changed with the advent of IM or Messaging. Texting, emailing and IM are quicker than calling, which makes them very convenient. Does convenience substitute for manners?

For example recently I had made plans to meet a MM lady. At the last minute she canceled over text messaging no less. When do you think the message was delivered? The next day - yep.

So was it rude to text when she could have telephoned the same device?

Bottom line: If you need to cancel a date, well, don't! It's rude. But if you have no choice, make your mom proud by doing the right thing and picking up the phone to offer a reasonable explanation and to beg for forgiveness. Texting, emailing and IM make it very easy for us to forget that there's a real person with real feelings on the other end of the line.

Has this happened to anyone else? Rude or not?

No, the rules of simple 'respect' and 'consideration' have not and never will change, Devoted.
Count your blessings for it's her loss for sure. She just had no guts to be upfront and honest about whatever it was that came up for her. I have a feeling you already know that you're better off not having met her.
Keep your chin up, Smiley. You're too cute to waste your energy on her. :)

It has never happened to me Devoted. I agree with you, if one must cancel a date it should be done by phone so you know the person has received the message. I'm sure that stood up feeling doesn't feel so great when you show up for the date, and the other person doesn't, because their text message did not arrive for 24 hrs. Even leaving a voicemail on one's cell phone is not always full proof. I have received voicemails 24 hrs later, and as much as 5 days late! You have no control over the server, and if the particular time the message is being sent that all the lines are being used. Have you ever not been able to use your cell, because the server has reached capacity of useage? I have!
