Dont think this section has been here long, or perhaps I have been unattentive. But all day it shows near the top of the list, with 2 threads and 1 extra post, and then there is nothing here. I guess we experienced another deletion spree or something.
The forum is entitled "This is not the Mind of the Pope" so I will try to get back to topic.
And BTW, unless the Pope is gonna post here, is will it be anything but conjecture? Who is to say what the Pope truly understands and knows but perhaps himself and God.
Anywho, I would say that Buddism is "not the mind of the Pope"...
Early in life, I became dismayed with organized religion as I had been exposed to it(in what is classically known as the bible belt, prevaded by "fire on the mountain" religion), and began studying religions, philisophies, and cultures across the world and back thru time.
I spent some time studying far eastern philosophies (hey the beatles were doing it and at 13, I thought that was cool) Confusionism, Taoism, and Buddism, with offshoots like Zen and Martial Arts thrown in for thoroughness.
The thing that really got me with the great Buddha is that he left his wife and child to go find this enlightenment(which he found after conversation with a young village girl while chewing a little botree btw). Sure he also left his kingdom and all his riches too, which is very noble, but the man was a deadbeat dad. No wonder it took him 6 years...
I find large part Buddhism very negative in nature and not a gregarious kind of thing...
Not sure if it is the original thoughts, or the permutations of the ones who carried on his traditions as best they could, but much of the reading is very "anti-partnership".
Of course, I don't know how much faith I would put in a white salamander telling me I could have a bunch of wives either, but hey, that is a story for another time.
Hello I just wanted to tell you that I was very amused at your dialog. I agree he was a dead beat dad and Al Gore has contributed 4 children to overpopulation but as you can see this does not stop everyone else from thinking they are great!
Now If I could just figure out what their secret was it would be a happy day indeed.
I too have studies world religions out of curiosity since age 13 and have discovered that all paths lead to the same place becuase perception is 9/10th of reality anyway! I view all forms of organized religion as various "marketing plans" designed to lead humanity to a state of higher consciousness. Let's face it if your market likes tacos then give em tacos, if they like family life give em a mommy, daddy and baby...unfortunately I think we need to fire the sales guys because humanity is moving at a snails pace toward higher consciousness and at lightning speed away from caring for the planet. So what ever you do dont let them stop funding the star search space programs becuase the "paper towel" mentality will require a new planet soon! xo
Religion, regardless of what denomination.......is a matter of belief,......and since most religions have the same foundation....we should all respect that.....if it doesn't meet with your own personal standard.......try and and put your perception forward....but don't try to intimidate, coerce, or influence the other person.....everyone will see the light when the time is right for them.
No need for insults because someone doesn't believe in the same things as you do....
If you have love for your neighbour, help others that are not fortunate...and try to be your brother's keeper, then all will be well......lol
GrapesOfGoodHope write: Have I missed something? Who "mocked your Lord"? Did your lord not give us brains and the ability to use them? Do we not have the right to question? You state that you are Christian and Catholic and you utilise a Jewish signature, so surely that must be a testiment to your tolerance? So why chastise people who merely state different views? Should you not rather provide arguements instead of shaking a finger? Just another innocent question ... However, if you are a fanatic, I accept your reaction, otherwise ... over to you!
Grapes, perhaps this was just her example of something that would not be the mind of the pope. :o)
I am a Christian and A Catholic. Please do not mock my Lord. Please do not make fun of or belittle by faith. Please show respect towards those who practice the Catholic/Christian religion. I will keep you in my prayers. Jesus loves you - he does. Jesus' Blessings and Peace to you all. Shalom.
luckysolucky, A pastor friend told me that new born again Christians should be locked in a closet for the first three years,I understand,I was one of them a long time ago. I'm Messianic without the need to push,I'm in several debates with known "religious people" for the reason you stated: my argument is " few " understand what is written and many talk before they know what they are talking about. They are like 5 year old showing you something they found, not knowing how to tell you about their discovery. I will say in their benefit. PM Sharon,(Israel) may not continue to lead Israel, if you read that Israel signs a 7 year peace agreement , go to church quick and discover for yourself whats going on, also log into Hal Lindsey in a search engine. So be understanding with "Born Again" and if you believe,do it because you want to, not because of what they say.
At this time I absolutely refuse to date and born "again christian" I won't belabor the reason why..... lets just say that redhead hits the nail on the head....
and....I refuse to watch the "Passion" movie as well....
I really think it comes down to the "Evangelical" or "Charismatic" one uses to pursue their, well, "Salvation"-----my deal is basically this, if you happy with your beliefs (or lack thereof), wonderful. But please don't try to inflict what's floating your boat onto others.
btw-if blondeindian makes it to Heaven, I'm opting out right now.
Jules----your last comment, just got off the phone with Mel, he's sooooo pi*ssed.
GrapesOfGoodHope write: Here's what's not in the mind of the Pope:
I am agnostic I support the use of condoms I support birth control I support abortion I support divorce I support freedom of choice I support gay marriage
However I respect people's need for religion when they also practice it 24/7. What I question is when people abuse it. (e.g BlondeIndian always starts referring to God after people defend themselves against her not so "love your neighbour" attacks and insults) What I further question is when people claim to be good catholics and in fact lead far more "sinfull" lives than I do (my wildest dreams included!).
Agree with your list and here's a couple more that are not in the mind of the Pope:
- Religious leaders can marry.
- Women can be strong spiritual leaders.
Also agree with your comment about those who preach but do not regularly practice. The Catholics (raised that way too) do not have the only claim to this characteristic. I'm frequently amazed (although I suppose with it being such a common occurence, I shouldn't be)that so many "good Christians" can be so hypocritical in the daily lives.
GrapesofGood I concur with you on the catholics, look at Mondana lol anyhow I was raised catholic and I gave my children some foundation, but never shoved them into believing any thing, but that there is a higher power and until you have met that higher power you will not know, unless you have blind faith and that is questionable for some people too. I respect people for what they believe or do not believe but I have my own version, and maybe one day I will share it with you.
