The last time I visited Las Vegas was in 1998, and for the most part I had a really good time despite the fact I lost money. I have traveled the world and have been in some of the worst and best places on this planet, so when I have a bad experience, I figure why not unload on one of these forums and tell everyone, besides I will feel better in the morning and maybe help someone on their next trip avoid a bad experience. On a recent business trip in Nov 2005, I decided to stop in Vegas for two days. Here are some of the new things you should expect when spending time in Vegas:

1. Before the Taxi cab driver opens his door and you get out, make sure you remind him of the real amount of your cab fare...it seems the cab drivers have learned how to rip off the tourists by clearing the amount and jacking the price up. Trust me, it was not an isolated incident. You catch on to the little scam after they do it two or three times. The last cab I took, the fare was $14.60...hey I figure the best medicine is the same your shoving down my throat, so before I got out of the cab, I took a fast digital photo of the meter...the cab driver did not see me. He cleared the meter and then walked around the cab and told me my fare was $34.60...I started to laugh and told him he was full of S H I T....he demanded the money or he would call the police...I said go ahead, and we can show the officer the photo of the digital image that has the time and date showing the real amount...hummmmm, I have never seen a taxi driver get in a cab so fast and drive away....lol, he didn't even bother to collect the fare.....hummm, he must have thought I was from NBC or Dateline....Beware the Taxi Drivers

2. You can not walk down the main strip without having someone flick a porn flyer in your face. Some of them throw them at you or flick them at your head. Flick Flick Flick...snaping of the fingers....I don't know what is worst, the sound of slot machines or the flicking of porn flyers..... If Vegas depends on tourism to suppport their economy, why do they let these vendors on the main drag where all the tourist walk. The Balagio water show is beautiful and then you look on the ground and it is littered with porn cards galore. And to make matters worse...the families who were stupid enough to bring their kids to vegas....ahhh, these porn cards make great collector items for 6-8 year olds.

3. The price of everything, even if it is the same identical product and only 20 feet apart can vary up to 1000%. Good example, a bottle of 2002 Beringer Merlot was $38.50 at one of the stores at The Shops at Ceasers...the same bottle in another store just next door was $187.00... How insulting....give me a break!

4. Second hand smoke kills...lol, you would think that a industry that makes a billion dollars a day would install proper ventalation systems in their hotels...geeee, it took every ounce of my physical being not to gag and cough.
as I dumped my house payment into one of their slot machines....and I'm still waiting for my free watered down drink.....lol.

5. There is no 5...I lost it at the black jack table....lol

6. Advise to the wise people at the Travel & Convention Center of Las Vegas.....See how long Vegas would last if only the locals were your customers.
I think I'll pass on Vegas for a long time.

Well . . . let me tell you, the clubs in Vegas are very strict. I was there with my boyfriend-at-the-time (I'm single now) and we tried to get into a club and they wouldn't let me in because I didn't have a photo ID. What a joke, even Stevie Wonder could tell I'm over 21!!!!!!

So, no matter where you go in Vegas, bring ID . . .

Ever thought the guys at the door just like to keep you there just to "chat you up"? I have never been asked for ID, not even when I was 15 years old and going to pubs in the UK... maybe I've always had the air of a "mature" person :)
BTW, just had a week over New Year in Vegas and it was great fun. The only thing I can say on the downside (apart from the 24hrs each way trip) is the quality of the "free" live music in the hotel/casinos, particularly bands, seems to have gone down... in the past they have been excellent, but this time were mediocre at best... maybe I was just unlucky?

My favorite thing about Vegas is the little sign they have attached to the inside of the room doors which says. "Help us conserve electricity by turning off the lights when you leave your room." A great comment coming from hotels that have signs with more than a million light bulbs that burn 24/7/365. lol.

LOL... that is so true....great observation!

I was wondering how long it would take you to track me down again...ahhh you caught me...I give up......lol, Hey, there are two sexy blondes sitting on a park bench looking at the moon. One blonde asks the other blonde, "Which do you think is closer the moon or Las Vegas"? The one blonde looks at the other blonde and says "listen silly, can you see Las Vegas from here"!

Don't get me wrong...I have been to Vegas about 30-40 times and have had some of the best times...it just seems like the city is suffering from overpopulation, lack of leadership and control over tourist based services. Once again....The taxi cab drivers are the worst I have experienced in my life...and trust me, I spent 8 years in New York dealing with cabs....Vegas cabs are like rolling casinos without any direction, driven by people with possible jail records and without regard to human emotion....yeah that bad...lol
