"The Porch Light"

"Mother, why is the porch light on?"
My son/daughter, it shines for you
Through the weary hours before the dawn
As I wait the long night through.
My thoughts go back to the bygone days
To my little innocent child;
Dear God! how quickly his/her baby ways
Have been by the world defiled.

"Mother, how long will the porch light burn?"
Dear son/daughter, until you come home,
For my aching heart will forever yearn
'Til your feet no longer roam.
My fervent, pleading unceasing prayer
Is for God to protect my son/daughter,
And I hear His answer, "My child, I care"
As I murmur, "Thy will be done."

"Mother, is God's light burning still?"
Oh, son/daughter! He loves you yet!
To draw you close is our Father's will,
To rest without care or fret.
And God in His mercy will set you free
To serve Him in peace and joy;
To be the man/woman that He made you to be,
My son/daughter, my beloved boy/girl.

Quoting aicila:

If you sleep on it...make it up.
If you wear it...put it in the hamper.
If you eat out of it...put it in the sink.
If you step on it...wipe it off.
If you open it...close it.
If you empty it...fill it up.
If it rings...answer it.
If it howls...feed it.
If it cries...love it.

This is so beautiful.  If my son could read I would print it out and stick it on the fridge!  Who is the author?

"He'll See Them Home"

Don't despair so of your children,
God will bring them to the fold -
Because He died to save them,
They're special to the Lord.
He knows how much you love them,
He loves them even more.
As long as you hold on in prayer,
He'll not close the door.
Even now He sees your tears,
And He whispers tenderly,
Of love that conquered all -
That all men might be free.

So lay them at His altar,
Let go and leave them there -
God will be faithful to your trust,
He won't withhold His care.
His hand will ever nurture,
No matter where they roam -
And He won't be satisfied
'Til He sees them safely home!

"Saying it with Flowers"

A rose can say "I Love You"
Orchids can enthrall
But a weed bouquet in a chubby fist
Oh my, that says it all!

"Mother's Covers"

When you were small
And just a touch away,
I covered you with blankets
Against the cool night air.
But now that you are tall
And out of reach,
I fold my hands
And cover you with prayer.

"The Prodigal"

She waited for the call
that never came; searched every mail
for a letter, or a note,
or card,
that bore his name;
and on her knees
at night
and on her feet
all day, she stormed Heaven's Gate
in his behalf;
she pled for him
in Heaven's high court.
"Be still and wait,"
the word He gave;
and so she knew
He would
do in, and for,
and with him,
that which she never could. Doubts ignored,
she went about her chores
with joy;
knowing, though spurned,
His word was true.
The prodigal had not returned
but God was God,
and there was work to do.

Motherhood is full of frustrations and challenges...but, eventually they move out!

If it was going to be easy to raise kids, it never would have started with something called labor!

Making the decision to have a child is momentous - it is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.
