I have recently been diagnosed with R.A. I have spent countless hours doing research, changing my lifestyle, altering my eating habits, searching out doctors, trying different meds and so on and so on. Any info anyone has would be much appreciated. Thanks!!

Find out your blood type and read the book "Eat Right For Your Type".  It changed my life. Also be aware that the #1 allergen is wheat . if you eliminate breads, pasta, and all food sources that contain it.

I am 48 and was diagnosed with psoriatic arthitis 2 years ago and have gone off the medications (methotrexate and prednisone) because i spent my life feeling incredibly tired and nauseous. I now have apple cider vinegar and honey (1 tablespoon in a glass of water) twice a day and am back at aqua aerobics and am pain free - still very tired all the time though. i just take 1 ibuprofen now if need - but only if i get a migraine. Good luck with your health - the biggest breskthrough for me was taking back my control of my health and started with diet and exercise first. Leave the big guns until there is no other options I say! Suzanne :)

Hm... I have had relatives with this so I worry about it even if people my age don't tend to get this. There are multiple causes, so these need to be assessed and treated individually.

For ones caused by cellular debris, I am attracted to vibration-based therapies. You have manually shaking them, but that's a bit slow and ballistic. More likely a bet is those vibrating platforms you can stand or lie on. They're sort of expensive though. I am thinking of buying a gyroscopic ball and in addition to building hand/wrist strength and suppleness, perhaps the gyroscopic forces will free up debris or something? Who knows, heh.

I had arthritis in my knucles all my fingers and especially thumbs. I used a electronic muscle stimulator (electric shocks) mine is called Leva, but not made anymore. I have seen similar ones on e-bay. The arthritis has been gone, for over one year, and only have to zap my right thumb once in awhile, when pain comes back. Hope this helps. Karen

Hi there. I'm so sorry about your diagnosis. Two things that can help immediately are liquid glucoasmine for the inflammation and Mona Vie juice which is loaded with anti-oxidants. E-mail me and I'll give your more info. All my best,

Brian

I found out I was allergic to NSAIDS that was caused all my stomach troubles, they thought I had intensial cancer till it was oops...you cannot have any meds with aspirin or ibrubrophan...

...there is an Herb Store near by that has the mix called JOINT EASE...forumlated by a nurse...I only took once a day and MSMGlucosamine lotion byt Natures Sunshine...and after a week it worked good...think a phone number was 1800-223-8225 out of Utah...

I also like Tiger Balm (red) though some cannot handle it and use the milder Tiger Balm (white) careful the red one can stain clothing...

Oatmeal and Sage plasters good...if you can stand the mess...and it IS messy

TENS unit great...don't underestimate THAT...also did acupuncture...which I liked in combination with massage but my ins no longer allowed it so I had to stop...water therapy, swimming also helps

Some foods can cause flare ups with me too...most of the time its during a menstrual cycle...heard that is really common...

I have seen so many docs it makes my head spin. I have a pretty severe case and have been on meds for the past 2 years. It has attacked my stomach and digestion and I suffer quite a bit because of that. I am no longer taking steroids, they drove me nuts!! Not to mention the weight gain and side effects. I have found that the humara has helped quite a bit actually. As long as I stretch in the a.m. before I even think about getting out of bed, eat right, take my meds, and stay away from stress as much as possible life is much less painful. I have a disability claim pending and have been fighting for the past 2.5 years. Working has not really been an option for me. What kinds of herbal vitamins have you found??

I was diagnosed with it too 4 yrs ago...don't let them con you into taking tons of meds...I eliminated most of my pain (and even my blood tests came back that my RA is even more minor than before!) I eat a better diet, more exercise (though cannot when I have a flare up)and some herbal mixed vitamin suppliments occassionally. I found my symptoms almost gone.

I find most of my flare ups happen around my period. Don't know if the docs investigated if maybe hormones might be related to flare ups...

When I have pain I use a 'TENS" unit...one of those things that uses electrodes attached to a battery powered device that runs an electrical current into the painful area...only have to use pain meds when really, really bad flare up..but that has not happened in a long long time...

Find a good RA doc...and worry if pain docs only want to get you hooked on vicodin...

I hear there are some new prescriptions out...but some of the side effects can be worse than the disease! Make sure you investigate them...

I have not had a 'bad' flare up for over two year...just the pesky little occassional ones that I used tylenol for...

Find out what stage of it you are at...mine was only minor and to keep watch on...and don't need meds yet for it. Have your docs given you more info?
