There is NOTHING like coming out of the starting gate, the noise, the snarling, kicking of steel, bracing yourself for a 65mph ride on a 1200lb animal, no breaks, no steering wheel, just the sound of heavy breathing and the pounding of your heart and there hoofs... Giving you there heart, trust and EVERY ounce of speed they have... NOTHING beats the RUSH!!! Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming -- WOW --

I have owned horses all of my life. I grew up on a farm and my Dad always had a¿field full of ponies and Arabian horses.¿ I was in 4-H for ten years and continued to show while in college.¿ I was also able to be part of a successful judging team.¿¿ So much more wonderful experiences , but it ¿would take weeks to tell.¿ Anyway, both of my children rode and showed horses and my granddaughter also had a miniature that pulled a little wagon that the Amish made for her.¿¿ They were so adorable together.¿ I still have my daughter's paint mare-28; the mini is21.¿ Both are in pretty good shape andhave a stall and big field to frolic and play in when the mood strikes them.¿ They are with me until that day comes that they are in pain or need my assistance to horse heaven.¿ They took care of my kids while they were on this earth , and now I must do the same for them.¿¿ I LOVE¿ MY HORSES!!!!!
I too love horses to the extreme, I was a very lucky child and had the privilage of riding them from the age of 5 years. All through my childhood I was involved with them, I learnt just about everything there is to know about horses and how to teach people to ride. In todays society I find it very hard to go horse riding due to the excessive cost. The cheapest I have found is ?25 for an hour and I dont know about all of you out there, but to me thats EXTORTIONATE.I would love to have my own horse again but by the time you have a field, stable, feed and a farrier the expense once again becomes crystal, but I guess for the time being I will have to put up with memories and dreams.
I myself grew up on a farm, and has had horses most of my life. Friesian, Arabian, Miniature, fjord horse, and Oldenburg.
Now I teach the horse mann ship, jumping and dressage. But sorry to miss riding itself, unless I get a "problem horse" for retraining. It is simply impossible to afford a horse in Copenhagen - Denmark, when you are in education.

Hi, I Love horse's when we retire we want to own a horse rescue. When we lived in Cheyenne, WY we would go to the horse auction's and save a couple horse's you would be amazed on how many excellent horse's there is at those horrible place's. We bought a beautiful reg palamino paint mare for $150.00 she was 3 yrs old when we got her. This mare was untrusting we spent yr n half with her gaining her trust. We bred her to a reg quarter horse Stallion. We was in hope of calming her down after she had her foal. Wow she was an amazing mother, Yes she calmed down we even imprinted her foal. Then when her foal was 3 month's old we Entered her in the Mare and colt race In Cheyenne, WY Frontier day's. That has to be one memorable moment all the other mare's & Foal's where untamed and wild. When Shy & merry legs Entered the crowd was Cheering when the race Started Merry legs ran over to be petted by the crown she wanted her rump scratched. Adorable, Just like her mother. I Miss those day's we are now military so it isn't realistic to own horse's, to much moving around. =o( We didn't win the race's but we won the heart's of the crowd. It is all we cared to do we was there to have fun. If anyone here hasn't been to Cheyenne, Frontier day's

luckysolucky ,ridding is like putting a saddle on a hi powered car engine. Racing "on the bit" sounds like a whole lot of go and not much slow. Stay with it as long as you can and you are luckysolucky.
Larry..yes they are trained to be "on the bit" as well as to the position of the the rider, on a Thoroughbred...30 mph it is the closest thing to flying I know of...up on the neck the wind whipping past. Huge adrenaline rush...very physical. The best shape I have been in my life...107 lbs rock hard muscles......

it is hard to say good bye to a best friend, i rode one of mine until he died, i wanted to also, he was my best buddy, and i felt so alone without him, beebopp...lol even when i got a new horse, they are like kids, different personalities and he was like a reicarnated friends for another life,lol...i love horses...
I used to be pretty indifferent when it came to horses. Then I heard one nailed you in the head and have found new respect for the ponies.
I've had quarter horses but never thoroughbreds, a jockey friend told me when he raced, the harder he pulled back on the bit the faster the horse would run.It makes sense but is it true....

After I had the horses put to sleep,
my dad was so sad he brought home a five gated Ten. walker mare that some lady had given him....she had too many horses to feed...he said she is very gentle and rides beautifully.... she is 13...chesnut...I have not been to see her as yet...but I thought of you immediately!
