Of course I have never died, not to the best of my knowledge at least, but once to my great surprise someone who was not drunk and I would suppose thought he was in his right mind, and a member of Mensa, you know the organization that can only be joined by geniuses, asked me that question.

And a certain woman who I had met on-line and had taken to lunch insisted she had died on the operating table and had floated above the doctors in the room and saw everything going on.

There are lots of people who report having near death experiences.

I don't believe it but I am asking, "Have you ever died?" How did it happen? Who or what did you see? Do you believe it was real? Or was it just a dream or hallucination?

WILFRED06,

I have a son who has an IQ that has been tested up to 218. They double promoted him a couple of times and he was in high school at the age of 9. It was not working out. I got him back into the 6th grade where he would have been without all the promotions. He went through the rest of elementary school and high school in the normal manner and graduated at the age of 18. I gave him back a LIFE.

He is now studying for a doctorate in math.

I have another son working on a pilot's license to fly commercial jets and that sort of thing. Very expensive.

I don't want to be a member. My IQ is about 125 and it gets me in enough trouble at that.

The requirement is to score at or above the 98th percentile on any of a variety of tests, GRE and Officer Candidate exams. I was tested at age 6 and most likely was given a different test than folks in college or OCS. The numeric score is not consistent from test to test, so it may be possible for someone in the 98th %ile to have a higher IQ score than someone in the 99th%. So your 125 might be different from someone else's if they took a different test. Oddly enough, even after mild-moderate brain damage, I scored the same as before, and the same as when I was 6. Pretty strange, I reckon. On the WAIS (Wexler Adult Intelligence Scale), by the way, IQ 133=98%.

Bottom line is that yes, it can cause a lot of trouble. I was moved from 2nd to 4th grade, and narrowly escaped going from 6th to 8th. People expect a lot of the gifted (or worse), never taking into consideration whether or not one's emotional / social maturity approximates the mental capacity. Our society is not very accepting or forgiving of those on either edge of the bell curve. Be well,

Bill / wilfred06

Yes, by definition at least. Following successful thyroid surgery in 1968 my heart stopped in the recovery room. I don't recall seeing anything, but then I was in a coma for a couple of weeks afterward and when I woke up I needed an eye-patch so I wouldn't see double, could not remember how to read or write, walk or talk, speak French, read music or play my guitar or piano. Those who met me last weekend may have noticed the scar on my neck: that is from that experience. Had some pretty strange dreams in the coma but nothing like what other folks report, no bright lights or tunnels, nothing "out of body."

And you don't have to be a genius to be in Mensa. I'm in, but am not one. It's a strange topic, yes, David, but I respond because of my doctrine of full disclosure. Be well,

Bill / wilfred06

I did. I was choked until I couldn't breathe anymore, and then I lost consciousness. What saved me was ... I fell to the floor and the guy lost his grip on my throat and his thumbs were dislodged from my windpipe and when I fell hard on my back on the wood floor, it smacked a big gasp of breath out of me. All I remember, while I was gone was black ... but it was a warm, velvet, unscary black. I guess I was looking in the wrong direction from "the Light."

Not my time to go.
