I'm old-fashioned. I remember a day, way back in the previous century, when men would stand for you and give you their seat on the bus. THAT never happens anymore, at least not in Ottawa, Canada. I always thanked them profusely but slowly and surely, the chivalrous mannerism faded from existance. When women complained that men never offered their seats to them anymore, or helped them on with their coats, or held a door open for them, men would answer, "Well ..... you women wanted equality!! You feminists all asked for it!"
What feminists DID asked for was equal pay for work of equal value. I know SOME women were said to have insulted men before by refusing their offer of a seat, or rejecting their courteous gesture to let them on the bus ahead of them, that sort of thing...
But THAT'S not feminists doing the dirty work. It's just rude, ignorant bioches who can't accept a chivalrous offer with grace and gratitude. Have the twits who want to assert their absolute independence from men ruined it for all ladies? Or are there men who don't feel like a lapdog doing little favours for their women to make their ladies feel more adored?

Does anybody teach their boys good manners and chivalry anymore?

I think the whole world ought to know that all of the secrets of love and chivalry and sex and romance are here. Yes, here on this very forum! Check it out!

We have engaged in extremely stimulating conversations on MM for quite some time; so much so that a man would be a celibate no-mind if he couldn't find all the answers to his questions about how to get a girl, just by reading the Millionaire Match forums!

We want chivalry! With chivalry, you have an excellent chance of getting sex, sex sex! Simple, simple, simple!

You don't even have to be good looking or fit or rich or fully-haired if you are a confident gentleman, flatter us shamefully, and treat us like sexy treasures. What woman could resist that?

So if I understand you correctly lovely Katie even a person such as myself could have a chance. Is that right? Huh, I never made the connection.

Lee, you KNOW I have a crush on you!

Sounds like a mutual admiration society to me. I'll meet you halfway.

Keith, you little scraper! Stirring up things again, are you? What's with the "Sugar Ray" pose in your pic. lol

The reason I added K2B to my name, Keith, is cuz Glenna told me if you google your user name, all your posts show up in the search. I tried it and all sorts of Katiegrl's showed up! Some had pics that weren't mine and some had no pics but weird opinions and comments, so people who didn't know better might search for Katiegrl and be confused by ALL the katiegrls in the world and their varied opinions and photos. So I added K2B so my name would be more unique and less "googleable!"

And YES! I'm following you. To keep you out of trouble! LOL

You know, feminism grew out of something good, there were plenty of good reasons for the feminist movement. However, in my opinion it has at many stages been skewered and contorted away from the truth.

The problem, is with the attitude that men and women are the same. Both the problem and the beauty of feminism is that it attacked the male gender role.

I was touring one of the major armories in Vienna this summer and found it interesting to hear that during the period leading up to the renaissance, the social ideal for a man was a warrior. At the time I asked myself "what's the social ideal for a man today?" I don't believe I've come up with a satisfactory answer to that question, but it highlighted the issue for me. For years masculinity was defined in many regards by gender roles in society, particularly as working men. As feminism challenged these gender roles and demonstrated that women could carry out the same roles (we'll avoid the whole debate about women in the military, fire department etc.) men became threatened, it's created a situation where men as the primary bread winners, family protectors etc. have lost their place, they now no longer have a verifiable position in society which causes massive problems in social development.

Now, the beauty of this is, being the bread winner, the protector, the hard working brute etc. is NOT what makes a man a man, and so it is, theoretically, a good thing that the former stereotypes have been challenged. However, it remains or society to uncover and illuminate what defines masculinity and help boys develop into men.

In my opinion, if this occurred, you wouldn't end up between a conflict between chivalry and feminism.

You bring up really important points, Rashid. Good on ya! LOL

Gender roles have been defined for us since the dawn of written history. Even back in the most ancient times man was depicted in carvings and primative illustrations as the warrior/hunter /protector and women have been reveered as the life-creator and nurturer. But men have also been the teacher and keeper of wisdom, while women have also been fighters and defenders. We just refer most often to the most basic traits of each gender most of the time.

And even though, traditionally, men were basically considered strong and fierce while women have been often regarded as meek and loving, I think, as a species, we've always shared similar characteristics and traits no matter what our gender.

NOW, with the contemporary "Technological Revolution" in full swing, we are simply overwhelmed by the break-neck speed at which our lives and environment are constantly changing. We don't even have time to acknowledge the changes before they start changing again! And where do we get our information from, in order to ponder these morphs?

Unless the media, which tries to control what we think with an iron fist, addresses the issues of changing gender roles ... we don't have much reading material to refer to! Largely, we're left to our own abilities to define the changes as they happen ... (poor, poor human mammals) but nowadays, who has time to do THAT? Most of us have work and bills and kids and our fitness regime and what we eat and Chai tea and Sushi and X Box 360 and new home theatres to deal with every single day! Who has time to ponder our evolution??? lol

Reserchers, who also help clue us in on what's happening to us, still seem stuck studying redundent topics such as "The Socio-economic Effects of Global-Warming on Individuals in Western Society."

Speed it up guys! Society has moved on really quickly and we need to know study results for changes that happened last WEEK to us!

If it makes men feel better ... there are still men on the planet whose sole role is as hunter/warrior. It's just not as easily definable what our roles are TODAY, in the big cities!

Sounds like an interesting topic to start another thread!

No. No need to.

Nice job, ang(ry) one. People trying to ignore your idiotic posts, but you just can't stand not being center of attention.

You're so right, ang(ry) one. Why should a parent teach their sons manners when they can grow up to be like you, a mean-hearted, selfish boy who sits pondering all the injustices women impose and why woman continually take advantage of your self-professed generousity? It's called combat pay.

God help us that you should procreate but if you should, your karma will be to have a little girl. That, I believe will be the only way you truly will begin to understand women.

Why don't you take your own advice and not intrude on a thread unless you have something that resembles an intelligent or meaningful thought?

Part of me hates to feel like a braggart, but I did a raise a son with good manners and who is chivalrous. The first time he displayed his chivalry nearly brought tears to my eyes (sentimental fool that I am). We were at a large family gathering in a restaurant when he was oh, about 7-8. I was engaged in conversation with a step-brother and suddenly discovered he was not at the table. Heart stop as you can imagine. Where I found him was standing outside the Ladies room. What he was doing was helping/escorting his great-grandmother and her sister to the restroom. When they came out, he gave them his hands and proceeded to walk them back to the table. When I told him what a kind act that was, he responded with, (head cocked, eyes giving a quizzical look) and said (something like), 'but mom, aren't boys supposed to be nice and help girls and grammas?" He melted the hearts of about five women by one act.

He's 22 now and still has the same consideration for women. It is hard sometimes now and more so during his high school years to hear and see how many girls do not appreciate these qualities. Not so long ago, when we were talking about this, he said "I am the man they will be looking for in about five years, mom." My old soul son.

It's hardly a wonder to me that he tends to date (slightly) older women.

I believe chivalry is one of the sexiest traits a man can have ... even over "sexual techniques," a hot bod, delicious lips, being able to cook and buying flowers on appropriate special days. Chivalry makes me feel lightheaded and ...... in the mood.
LOL
