Im new to this site and maybe im a little nieve and a wide eyed wonderer, but I was wondering if some of the people on here are famous celebrities that I might know from somewhere. Also if anyone wants to talk please contact me. Im more than happy to talk to you.
Are you pursuing music for status or monetary gain? or Because it enriches your life and the lives of others in ways that don't involve material assets or recognition?
My whole family was into music, but not professionally. I have played since i can remeber. I do it only for enjoyment, and to bring spirits up...make people laugh, or even cry. I have never even tried to make money with my music, and haved only performed for free. I encourage people to bootleg my music on my websites, and allow them to download it for free. My children are musicians also, and i have always encouraged them to use their music to be a positive influence on their peers, and the world. My son has taken that to another level, and raises many world concerns in his lyrics. As i posted in another thread.. he may just be the 'anti-eminem'... although his music is the same genre, he is making an attempt to abolish the exact thing that you find superficial in the media....and listen to "Rat Race' He was 17 when he wrote it. He will not play for money either.. he asks that people bootleg his music also, and doesnt seek any fame or fortune from it, and neither do I, although people dont seem to understand why. Music is to lift spirits, and we promote it for that reason. What would this world be like without musicians, and artists? I hope i never know. My son aspires to be a sociology professor, and writer, and i refinish boats for a living. We are not wealthy by any means, and i personally have donated many thousands toward child abuse, and drug recovery. I help people on a personal level... and go right out into the streets, and feed them, clothe them, have taken many into my own home even. I offered my bus to transport people out of LA during Katrina, but i found no one to go with me on such short notice, and i didnt trust drving it, (1963 Intl.) without a mechanic along for the ride, or i may have gotten stuck in the next hurricane... so i donated to the Red Cross instead, $ out of a mortgage, which i still have to pay back. My yacht is for sale, and i have pledged $10,000 to the Red Cross when it sells also, because they have helped us out in disaters, that we ourselves were victims of.
And to answer the real question here... Yes, my sole purpose for performing...is, and has always been to reach out to a troubled world...(although my lyrics are geared to be entertaining, and visual, and not political)...if i ever did become rich from it... my only mission is to promote peace, and improve the quality of life on a larger scale. Like Oprah... use your celebrity status to reach the greater numbers. It is our obligation to use that power responsibly. There are possibly as many poeople who abuse their teacher/doctor/priest status also, we just dont hear as much about them, because they are 'not' celebrities, and they frequently go unnoticed. My point is that, many people are greedy, and selfish, ... celebrities just get more publicity, thats all....they have more pot shots taken at them too.
I'm proud of you though.... you put up a good argument, and i see your heart is in a good place. I apologize if i misread you.

Those who are well-known or wealthy for showcasing their talents in business, sports or the arts, or those who are not, who contribute themselves to a greater cause have earned the right to be labelled a 'celebrity'. We're all human, we all need and desire the same in life - good health, happiness, family, friends, positive influences etc. We all have the capacity to do good for others in some way, and in doing so enriching ourselves.
Let's take one of the biggies for example... Oprah donated 10 mil. to Katrina victims, and in just one of many 'shows', appealed to viewers to donate money to Oprah's Angel Network for poverty-stricken and AIDS-affected children in Africa, and pledged that she personally would oversee where that money was spent. From that show alone, viewers around the world donated over (US)$7,000,000.
Sean Penn went out there in his rescue raft with supplies.
Celebrities are the people who 'can' make a huge impact, and many of them do.
We may all be celebrities, to someone...but dont single someone out and demean them, 'because' they are one. Of course what gets publicized, is more prevalently known, and many seek that arena for the fame and glory only, but you obviously have a very narrow scope, and target a prominent few who are the former. You are demeaning artists, musicians, writers, and athletes, and generally, the people who make this world colorful... and i wont stand for it!
People who are affected by war, disease, intolerance and greed. Health care workers, teachers, some of those in public office, therapists, volunteers, friends etc. These are the people who in my mind are to be celebrated and labelled celebrities...not actors, authors, musicians, athletes or artists.
Big Boz says...
Many celebrities, actors, artists, athletes, musicians, and authors volunteer their time and effort, searching for victims, fighting in wars, volunteering, giving to charities, educating people, donating time and money to greater causes than what the average person is capable of doing. They have the power to reach greater numbers because they are celebrities. And becaiuse they are celebrities, people will pay attention to them. There were celebrities bringing supplies, and rescuing people during hurricane Katrina, before fema even got to them, some celebrities found a way, with their Superboats and SUV's. Some were there to console people, 'a familiar face'. How can you be blind to the therapeutic value of music, or a movie, or anything to take your mind off of tragedy, especially, when it's all you know. Many writers, and musicians and artists, and athletes, aspire to be these things, for the sole purpose of being able to make a greater impact on humanity. Albeit there is greed amongst humanity from all walks, and people in public service who abuse their authority also. Many of these creative people you defamate, developed their art, out of poverty, and war. How many athletes work with troubled kids, and keep them off the streets? Mercy Child, who told you that you couldn't sing?
I was in the movie Poltergeist 111. It's an awful movie but it was still fun. I was the stand-in for the little lady Tangina who is the medium. A couple of scenes they actually used me instead of her. The movie is shot so badly that you can actually tell when it is me and when it was her. Lara Flynn Boyle, Nancy Allen, Tom Skerritt, and Heather O'Rourke were the stars of that movie. Not to mention Zelda Rubinstein, who played Tangina in all 3 movies. She was really nice. I also appeared in industrial films for Babcox and Wilcox, and National Bank.

I can't remember her title but a past friend is either the tallest midget or the shortest giant or maybe both? In my printing bus. I worked for some top named clebs. who were nice people and also a popular pope look alike who was a jerk and card carrying disciple of Peter ( The Rock)who was a thief. My recent association with cleb's. is watching TV.
puppypaws write: I thought that there was a celebrity on here. In fact, I am crushed that she never responded to my email, for I had developed a small crush on her upon seeing her on TV a number of times.
Oh well.....she can certainly do better than me.....so I understand.
no one is better than anyone else, if she is on mm, then she is not getting what she wants as a celebrity, right...People are people, even celebrities are lonely too, look at how many commit suicide, most because of loneliness, they probly have a hard time trying to get people to look at them as human, inside the real person and not the person they are in public, thank about it...
katiegirl, Is amazing a celebrity she has done it all she is the true artist and in her life she has seen rewards money can't touch the kind of accomplishments that are not store bought.
Hats off to Katiegirl...And she is Modest, humble down to eath typical sagittarius..
I've met several celebreties, but the most memorable one: I almost ran over OJ Simpson. Late 70's, maybe very early 80's. I was living in the Bay Area of CA when he played for the Niner's. I was kind of late to brake at a stop sign (they practiced at Univ. of Santa Clara which was on my way to work) and he was walking across the street. He was close enough to put his hands on my car, look me straight in the eye and hear him yell at me.
Not that I'd have really wanted to hurt him, but in hindsight, it sure qualifies as one of those things that makes you go, hmmmm....what if.....
