'Noonesclosetome' repeat after me, "Screw marriage." 20 yrs from now you will not feel the same way as you today. I was your age 20 yrs ago and thought just like you do. Believe me, marriage and relationships are not all they're cracked up to be. Don't waste the next 20 yrs of your life being married, and probably to some smuck whom you don't even like. Have your fun now and do all of the things you want to do. You have your WHOLE life to get married, so why screw up so young? See things with a clear vision, not with rose colored glasses. You'll thank yourself if you do.

yes, most of them pay protection money to their own police force - a huge triad gang who own and guard their territory with a force that even the FBI are clueless about...

It may happen with underground crimes, but I assure you, if you go into an Asian's store in Houston to rob him, you may not come out alive. There are many examples. They don't usually foster that attitude until after several roberies, then watch out.

If the 'general public' they bully or blackmail is a bunch of cowardly , illiterate immigrants or their own tribe which they control , then there is little the US police would know about or want to care ..or rather if these crimes are not reported then it thrives in the underground..

it is as deeply seated and vicious as the Italian Mafia"

I don't think they would last in the US for long, certainly not attacking the general population. Too many guns here. We have a lot of ordinary robbers blown away by store owners. Robbing, etc. can be extremely dangerious for the robber.

IN Chinese communities like these ..it is 'SELF-POLICING' alright ,of a different kind..it is as deeply seated and vicious as the Italian Mafia..
Watch some of John Woo's films on this aspect esp 'Brothers' ..Chinese Mob is another kettle of fish altogether..
This enlarged ' FAmily' bond is what keeps the CHinese community low-profile everywhere they set up their roots, becoming too rich and too sucessful has a very high price.

"Chinatown here is overrun and controlled by different triad gangs"
_________________________________________

I am sorry to hear that. I hope they can get a handle on it soon. It will ruin a city,-- safe for no one. I don't think Houston has that problem, but not positive.

Having said that , I also know that since the late 80s, the outflow of alot of triad gangsters , both Chinese and Vietnamese, have caused great concern to the countries that have taken them in without a thorough background search.

Chinatown here is overrun and controlled by different triad gangs and Scotland Yard and FBI are all working over-time to make sure that their illegal activities from gambling, drug smuggling, prostitition and human trafficking activities are not expanding. The recent massive deaths in illegal human trafficking where over 50 Chinese illegal immigrants died in a windowless meat-truck from Europe or the hundreds of deaths from clam hunting in dangerous beaches here by desperate Chinese illegal immigrants working for immoral local operators..apparently the Vietnamese gangs are the most vicious having been honed by the recent war and are therefore utterly merciless..

I was going to volunteer my language and legal services to the Police here who desperately need translators and lawyers to help but my parents forbid me because they fear I may become a target to these triads for working with the law..there is a very dark and dangerous community underground..I have personally witnessed a Chinese man being chased and attacked by a group in broad day light in Chinatown..no one dare go to his help..and the police always arrive too late and they rarely want to be too inolved with such criminal investigation..so all is not what it seems to be on the surface..

"I would say that overall the Asian community , from Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Indians...have all excelled in America, where hardwork , dtermination and discipline meet opportunity"
____________________________________

I agree with that, but really admire the Vietnamese who escaped with nothing but their shirts - if that. They have done so well and made such good citizens. I have rarely heard of one being in trouble with the law. They police their own community usually, very effectively.

I would say that overall the Asian community , from Japanese, Chinese, Koreans, Vietnamese, Indians...have all excelled in America, where hardwork , dtermination and discipline meet opportunity..the sky is the limit..Most of these Asian countries adhere closely to Confucian work ethics and education as the key to progress...so it is no surprise they achieve their goals in less than one generation. However keeping that work ethos beyond 5 generation has always been the hardest...esp in materialistic surroundings..I guess there are reasons for their resistance to marry out of their race for fear of diluting those values..
Think u still have to head East for that ideal model..lol

"go find your own translator in Vietnamese restaurant...may be potential wife as well"
______________________________

The Vietnamese women in Houston rarely date or marry anyone not Vietnamese. Say too many cultural differences. Maybe they are smart. Huh?

The Vietnamese has really done well in Houston. From boat people to business owners all over the town. I think many people are very proud of them and their grit.

yes, you would love that Japanese work ethics..perfection personified..where their garbage collectors are immaculate in uniform with gloves, and the garbage truck is spick and span and even the hub-caps are polished..where you have to sort your garbage into burnables and non-burnables and you have to write your name and address on the garbage bags so they know if you did not do it properly and they will not collect your garbage...
respect for public property is incredible, you don't see any grafitti at all..
you think they don't have fun living in such sanitized condition, but you will find they celebrate every season with so much gusto , be it food, clothing and folk dancing at the village fair..a country which has a hard life but knows how to celebrate life as well since they know an earthquake could kill them anytime..their life is quite simple, live and let live..a very misunderstood country and people indeed..in my years there I have learnt to respect and admire them even though they have caused such a lot of atrocities in my country...so take a trip to Japan and find your perfect model...lol..it would be an adventure of a lifetime..I now so many Americans who have found very happy second marriages there. ONe even asked for a Japanese wife to be sent over to Hawaii for him when he returned home lonely, and his friends did that for him and he is still happily married ..
