patrick suskind " le parfum"
if you do not quit for the first 40 pages or so (the most boring ever), then you will not be able to put the book aside without having finished it first.it becomes that captivating. I still haven't seen the movie..
A very good book that I read most recently is The Last Patroit by Brad Thor. I have several in waiting including Epicenter, The Forgotten Man and 5000 Year Leap. During the Christmas holiday I read Glenn Beck's The Christmas Sweater. That is a good book for anytime though. It is a story of forgiveness and second chances.
nora roberts trilogy - blood brothers and now the hollow are good if you like a little spooky, but not graphic. she's great whether writing as nora or j.d. robb - the futuristic detective who is married to the really hot irish millionaire Roarke
beautynbrains4u write: Re: you didn't enjoy the ayn rand books? which ones? my book favorite of hers is Atlas Shrugged. Red, you remind me of dagney in that one. she isn't rated as an author but a philosopher and social critic. as a writer, she is wordy, repetitive and dry. but what she says is more important than how she does it.
Haven't read her yet Red, but if a book doesn't catch my interest in the first several chapters....I usually dont continue. Probably overlooked some good reads but...
LOL, my kids suggested I join a book club. I laughed and said by the fourth session, while everyone else was discussing plots and summaries, I'd still be trying to get the correct pronunciation of the names of the authors and characters..esp Russian.
Yes, I have two books by Ayn Rand..haven't read them yet.
Anyone a member of a book club?
Re:
Not a book club member either, but I too have bought two Ayn Ryan books. I think she's highly overated myself. She couldn't keep me interested long enough to read either of them.

Re:
Beauty, you'll love them, esp. after you've liked the Russian stuff. I suggest the book club for this group is lunatics on parade!!
beautynbrains4u write: Just bought "the alchemist" by paulo Coelho, hopefully, I've got the right book now! My kids just passed on to me "Fast Food Nation" Cyn, they thought it was great, haven't read it yet. Presently reading Dostoevsky's Crime and Punishment (with cliff notes, LOL).
Re:
gutsy with the Russian stuff, tons of long names. just reread Solzenietzen sp? and Atlas shrugged. love that book
BlueEyz2006 write: Somebody recommended "The Alchemist" in one of the forum rooms and I read it in Italy this week -- great read! It's along the lines of "Illusions" rather short and philosophic but well worth the read!
I've read "The Alchemist" as well and absolutely a great read.
btw.....1) good to see you again,
2) hope your Italy trip was good,
3) I bought "The Cave" you recommended and "Dream of Scipion" Lombard recommended. Both sound wonderful - my kind of books....but have yet to start them. I just don't seem to read as much in the summer as I do in the winter.

Thanks, Lombard for the suggestions. I'll have to make a trip to Rhinebeck for most of the films you recommended. They have a better selection of foreign films than the local blockbuster!
