You're kidding!! Tell us what happened!

Oh Minnie it was horrible! My *now 8* yr old daughter and I spent the night at my brothers house...well hes just a dear friend...I call him my brother...He and his wife had moved to Fresno and had a lil party so we stayed. I was sleeping on the couch and she on the loveseat...Ive had problems w/her feet hurting her since she was a baby. So she woke up whining about her feet, I went searching high and low for a tylenol of some sorts...I found a bottle of Aleve in the bathroom. I remember there was only a few but heck I wanted some relief for her and wanted to sleep. I gave it to her...I swear for the better part of 2 hours she was so damn irritible and didn't sleep tossed and turned. About that time Zanes wife woke up and I see her in the kitchen getting some aspirin of some sorts...I told her I found something in the bathroom, she said uhhhhhhhh Lisa I don't think that was Aleve that was viagra! Ugh! I rushed to the phone and called poison control, but not to worry she was ok! :)

I really just told my story because every one has such trust in modern medicine that they never even think of questioning it. Remember Thalidamide?? A tablet to combat morning sickness in pregnant women...it effected future generations!!!!!!

Dont get me wrong...I too go to the doctor but I always question what he/she is prescribing for me and if there is any alternative! It is YOUR body and it is up to you how you want it to be treated. It doesnt hurt to ask!!

I agree with you completely. There is almost always an alternative. Except for those rare occasions where we do have to take antibiotics for something but I try to avoid those too whenever I can.
I'm having some really bad skin problems now (rosacea etc...) due to the stress and toxins being released from my body etc (through the osteopath's treatment) and it's showing up in my face mostly - help! I know it's only temporary but it's driving me nuts.
I have had problems in the past and I have taken antibiotics for it - had to take them for 3-4 months every time! I did this twice and my skin cleared up but within a few months the problem came back again. Then I was going to try the same antibiotics again last spring so I started them. After 2 weeks, I suddenly started itching really badly in various parts of my body - it was horrible. It would start on my right hand for example and I would scratch it until it was really red etc.. then it would travel up to my arm etc... and it went all over my body and it was agony - I felt like I had itching powder all over me and I had red welts everywhere from scratching all the time. I endured this for a week - kept thinking that it would go away but it kept getting worse so finally I went to the doc and she told me to stop the antibiotics immediately and she gave me another medication to take against the itching. She said it would take 4-6 weeks for the itching to stop and it did take 6 weeks but I had to take these tablets 2-3 times a day.
Will I ever take antibiotics again for my skin?? No way!!
If anybody has a good remedy for rosacea or other skin problems... I would appreciate the advice.

robotic, since you mentioned Viagra...I just wanted to mention that recently it has been in the news linked to over a hundred deaths. The FDA may be reviewing it's usage and pulling it if they have not already done so.

Hi gang, haven't been here in ages but have to jump in here.
I've suffered migraines for the last 4 years, done the regular docs, physical therapy, drugs until I'm so stoned I don't know my name, days in bed (alone yet!) specialist in spine/neurology, and who stopped them.....the chirpractor and accupunture!
Both my family physician and specialist recommend a number of vitamins, minerals and herb supplements over using presciption drugs. In fact the specialist sells the vitamins/herbs in his office!
I don't know if it was just your bad experience with that particular chiropractor, Robotics that got you on this, but for alot of us, the natural way and accupunture are the best!

Maayan you make a good arguement and lot of sense!

Now can I be the first for the foot rub??

Scorpio, even if I still lived in Cornwall you'd be pretty far away. While I'd be happy to massage your feet, I wasn't plannng on being in your neighborhood any time soon. As an alternative, many bookstores, local or online, should have books on acupressure, reflexology or shiatsu. You can do your own feet if you cannot find a partner, but for best results, always try to use the opposite hand to the foot you are working on.

To relieve constipation (the easiest one to describe), lightly grasp the achilles tendon about 2-3 inches above the heel. Squeezing gently but firmly, pull down until you reach the foot. Do this on both feet, but I suggest no more than 3 times on each. Now drink a glass of lukewarm water and don't plan on any long walks. Three times is my maximum, but your results and requirements may vary.

In extreme cases, follow the achilles tendon up, squeezing the calf muscle all the way to the knee.

I suppose some will find this in bad taste, but it works. And if anyone doubts that there are nerve endings in the feet from every other part of the body, let them rub a freshly cut onion on the bottom of their feet and see how long it takes for their breath to smell like onions (without having actually eaten any).

WARNING: DO NOT MASSAGE THE ARCH OF THE FOOT UNLESS YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING. YOU CAN TRIGGER THE RELEASE OF INSULIN, WHICH IS NOT ALWAYS DESIREABLE. Stick to the fleshy areas and massage any tender spots until the tenderness goes away. Be well,

Bill / Wilfred06

I think it was Isaac Isamov who said
"I don't say that the scientists are always correct, but the non-scientists are almost never correct."

I would say that even a stopped clock is right twice a day. But I wouldn't depend on it to tell the time.

I personally dont take tablets in any form, I believe your own body can heal most things wrong with you and if you take tablets it just masks the problem and the body cant heal what it cant recognise! I am rarely ill...if I feel ill I sleep it off. Now thats just me and I dont push it onto any one else except for one time when my grandmother was dying so to allow her to die with dignity in her own home I looked after her, she was 83 and no one could persuade her to eat. On her table there were at least seven bottles of tablets and a list of how many and when the tablets had to be taken. When I asked gran what all the tablets were for she couldnt remember,(nor could anyone else I asked) she just knew she swallowed 9-11 tablets each time.

As far as I could understand the only thing that could kill her was her heart or lack of food!! So I put all the tablets away and just gave her the prescribed dose for her heart condition, (obviously if gout or pain troubled her then resume those again)but for now Im sure she couldnt eat because she was full of tablets!!! I would cook food with the yummy smells like bacon and fresh bread to encourage her to eat! After about 2 months my gran was up and about with no pain or illness!! So what WERE all those tablets for?? After sitting down with her doctor (AND taking the lecture for stopping her tablets) I found out that...
1.she had pain in her little finger once and was told it was gout so was given repeat perscriptions...again and again!

2. the gout tablets made her sick so another tablet was to combat that..repeat perscriptions again!!!!!

3. strong painkillers

4. tablets for sickness and diariah (however you spell that!) probably caused by other tablets.

...cant remember what the other tablets were for but the point is..my gran was seen by a..(and I quote robotic) regular trained physician!!!

She lived for another 10 yrs tablet free (apart from the heart tablets)only taking natural ingredients for illness's such as colds, tummy upsets etc.

Now I know that isnt any world breaking news but it works for me and it gave my gran 10 quality years of life she wouldnt have had.

Astrology and the metaphysical is all hogwash and nonsense. So is chiropractic "medicine" along with acupuncture and herb treatments. These are just a few of the dumb, ignorant alternative treatments people go for.

I guess if you are desparate and you have tried everything else it doesn't hurt to try them. They don't hurt you as far as I know, the difficulty is they don't do any good.

Viagra, Cialis, and Levitra as well as a p*enis pump work for some men but finely ground up rhinoceras horn doesn't do any good as far as I know, it doesn't make you horney, though I personally haven't tried it.

My brother is a chiropractor. A teenage girl was brought to him by her mother. She was having terrible headaches. THREE separate MDs had told her it was just stress or her imagination. He referred her to a neurologist he knew. Within a week she had had a tumor the size of a lemon removed from her brain. So much for mainstream medicine.

The Chinese were successfully treating a variety of ailments with acupuncture and acupressure when Western "medicine" didn't even know about anesthetics. I can relieve sinus congestion, constipation and several other ailments just by massaging the right places on your feet. Relief is nearly instantaneous, while over the counter remedies can take hours and frequently have undesirable side effects.

There are more things in heaven and earth, Horatio, than are dreamt of in your philosophy. (Shakespeare)

Be well.

I love Acupuncture dahlins

Being Chinese I grew up with traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) all my life and that has kept me fit and I have never had any major illness to this day . TCM has less side effects because their origins are primarily herbal and have been tried and tested some 2000 years ago starting with Emperor Huang Wu Ti, the first emperor of china who was known to observe the influence of seasons and summoned the wisest men in the kingdom to record through observation and trial and error how seasonal plants and herbs could be of great medicinal value..today many western pharmeceutical companies are producing some of these herbal remedies in pill form..e.g. ginseng, dong quai (the natural HRT for women which helps prevent PMS and menopausal effectson the female body.)
TCM and acupuncture is widely used in China and their successes are rarely recorded for Western research mainly because of the lack of resources and the Chinese tend to base their cures on observation and word of mouth. Oral history and secret formulae are kept in the families for centuries and if you research in depth how TCM has developed thru the ages, it is based on modern medical anthropological methods and one should not dismiss it so quickly. I am glad that UK's national health service now accomodates alternative cures and herbal medicine within their budget.

Robotic - my first post was to give you the benefit of the doubt - that perhaps you HAD tried these methods and they hadn't worked for you although I could read in your tone of voice that you had your absolute and definite opinion about this no matter what.
So in fact you did try a chiropractor and it didn't work for you. Maybe you went to the wrong one. Sometimes even doctors are quacks - why not chiropractors?

I have recently followed a homeopathic treatment for the daily bad headaches I used to have and a couple of other things and I can tell you that my headaches are GONE. I was going through bottles of Advil and Tylenol like M&Ms and they still didn't help that much. As soon as I did the homeopathy treatment (which falls under alternative medicine which you are denigrating) my headaches completely disappeared for several weeks. I now occasionally get one, but it's rare and I even don't always take a headache tablet for it. For me it's been a real revelation and a HUGE relief to be finally headache-free.
Homeopathy has also helped alleviate some other minor health problems I've had. It has also helped me enormously to combat depression and insomnia.
I am currently undergoing osteopathic treatments and they are also helping a LOT. An interesting footnote for you: Osteopathy was evolved by Dr Andrew Taylor, an American physician. He introduced his new treatment methods after 16 years of study. He opened the first college of Osteopathy in 1892 and within 20 years, the practice was recognised in every state.
It is similar to chiropractic - it focuses on keeping the body in structural balance so that it can heal itself.
And I have also tried acupuncture and will do so again.

Traditional medicine is not always the best route to take. When it's really necessary of course I'll go to the "normal" doctor too but in general I hate it when doctors ply you with countless pills which do not cure the real problem at its core.

I prefer by far "alternative" ways to treat ailments. Much healthier in the long run, believe me.

Have never tried herbal treatments but might do so in the future. Same goes for aromatherapy, ayurveda, reflexology and even hypnosis.

Forgive me Robotics, and with all due respect, you are coming across as a bit ignorant when you label alternative medicine as "hogwash, nonsense, dumb, ignorant..." etc... and say that only desperate people use these methods and that they don't do any good. Not true at all, as I just explained above.
