Thanks for your post and yes those are 2 great books. Both of these were recommended reading by my lifecoach. I loved Wayne Dyer's book and have listened to cd's from him as well. I'm not quite finished "Ask & It is Given", but will do so shortly. My coach assigns a book for me to read, asks that I journal and then we have weekly one hour phone sessions. I'll admit that I "hate" homework, always did, so I sometimes retaliate and don't do the required reading or associated exercises. I used to love to read, but for the last 10 years have really gotten away from it. Don't know why I'm fighting the reading and writing process, my coach says it's because I don't want to do it, yet I need to. We've had a break for the past few weeks while my coach was on holiday, but will probably get back to the regular routine shortly.
Either way, all the reading I have done has truly changed "how" I think. It's fantastic to be able to apply lessons learned in my day to day life, and now I look at life's trials and tribulations as one giant lab experiment, and look at what it is that I get out of it, there's always a lesson to be learned.
Don't know if you've read "The Power of Your Subconscious Mind" by Dr. Joseph Murphy, but it was one of the 1st books I was assigned to read. It really makes you realize how powerful our mind is, and how little of it we really use. I've read it many times, and have many post-it notes marking favourite passages.
That's great that you're taking training, I'd love details on what's involved as far as training, how long the course takes, costs involved, etc. I looked into a fantastic course in the U.S., but it was geographically impossible for me right now. Need to look into something in Toronto I think.
There's a great t.v. show on called Starting Over that showcases 6 women who are from all walks of life, with different troubles, and it follows their individual stories with their life coaches from when they arrive at the house, through coaching and finally to graduation once they've accomplished their goals. It's a great show and they've got a website that gives great background on the coaches, the women, etc. On Rhonda's profile (one of the 2 life coaches) I believe there's a link that takes you to her own website. She offers a weekend course to feel out whether coaching is right for you, I'd love to go, but it's in the U.S. and I feel I need to find something closer to home.

Yes a life coach is like a mentor, at least in my case it is. My coach is about 8 years older than me, but his background was psychology. He also gives lectures on motivation and co-creating your life. So many people seem to go through life as if they have no say in the matter. My coach became a friend first, and at the time told me I wasn't ready for life coaching, which really ticked me off, but about one year later I realized he was right and I was now ready, and that's when we started. It involves a lot of reading and journaling, which I fought at first, but I finally decided to surrender to his expertise, and have learned so much and modified my outlook and am so glad he came into my life. Sometimes it takes an outsider to point things out in a different way before you are willing to reconsider.
It's the best thing I've ever done for myself, and I'm actually considering life coaching as a new profession, it's such a positive feeling to help others get their lives back on track.
I am very interesting in cognitive development. I have learned about this in school.. I know personally, If I smile and think positive I feel much more healthier and happy. If we think negetive, we have negetives more so happen and it snowballs from there. We all get down sometimes, but if you think in your mind, it could be much worse, than you think more positive. Remember we create our destiny and make our life.
I already have a perpetual motion machine, it's my dog, a miniature pinscher, and I didn't have to pay anywhere near 15 million! It's true, his breed is known and described as a perpetual motion machine or the King of Toys because they love playing with their toys more than most other dogs. He's got more energy than I've ever seen in any dog, just wished I could tap into it sometimes.
Right off the coast of Nova Scotia, there is a small island named Oak Island where there is a "Money Pit" that people have been trying to find since about 1795.
I have been reading about it since I was about ten years old. That is about 65 years.
If someone would back me with enough money I would go search and I think I could find the treasure if it is there and I would give them at least some of it.
There are people who I think live on the island and they have some ownership and they would have an interest so that would have to be taken into account too but we could draw up a legal contract satisfactory to all concerned. Or no deal.
Any takers? There might be millions to be found at the bottom of the pit. Gold, jewels and other stuff.

Positive thinking is the way to go... currently during my separation / divorce and the moments that come filled with frustration, anger, sadness are easier to get through with a visual of my mountain. Every step I make takes me closer to the top and the other side. Even in the darkest parts of the mountain, I can see my path as I know that there is sunshine waiting for me on the other side. Every day we wake up with a choice - to live today happy or not. How will you wake up tomorrow?
Sounds like cognitive therapy is very similiar to what I've been covering in life coaching. It changed my life in a positive way too. I can now get myself out of a bad or sad mood by simply listening to a relaxation CD I have, or by replacing those negative thoughts with positive ones. What I like best about the life coaching is that it taught me to be "aware" of my thoughts and awareness is half the battle. If people realized how powerful their thoughts were, they'd be much more careful about which thoughts they let in. All I know is after a session, I always feel good about myself and life, and feel extremely positive. This impacts the rest of the day and I always have a great day. At day's end, I reflect and realize I want more of that and make a conscious decision to have another great day tomorrow. I very rarely have down days anymore, I just don't allow myself to. When I do have a down thought, I ask myself whether it's true, and 90% of the time it's not, then I tell myself to get that thought out of my head, and I do.
It's all about positive thinking, you're thinking you'd like to be rich which is a positive thought, but then you also think it's unlikely that it will happen which is a negative thought. One cancels the other. The brain is the most powerful tool we have, but it has to be used very carefully. Your subconscious hears what you'd like but also hears that you don't expect it. Try just thinking positively that you'd like to be wealthy and follow that with more positive thoughts as to what a wealthy life would look like. Don't know if you're interested, but one of the books I was instructed to read was The Power of Your Subconscious Mind by Dr. Joseph Murphy. It was very enlightening for me, and I have reread it several times. It takes a while to retrain your thinking, but it is possible.
