I have lived in the mountains of North Carolina for almost 8 years now. My passion is to rescue starving, abandoned, or abused ferrall(Wild) cats in the mountains here .It is truely sad that some just dump off kittens at dumpsters, or other things I do not wish to bring a visual too as it makes me cringe to even hear the stories ..
In my time here I have rescued well over 100 ferrall cats. I pay to get them fixed, their shots, and get them to be trusting to humans. It takes time, love, tenderness, and a lot of TLC and patience to bond with them. I have found that once bonded and at the right imprinting age some have just come to know me as "Dad". I make up my own somgs for each one so to differentiate my calls to them. I carefully find loving homes to the ones that are ready. Here in the mountains it is a very impoverished area and families do not have the resources to adopt and pay for the fees. So I offer my services for free. There is nothing so wonderful to see a little boy or girl's eyes light up to get a loving cat and I'm sure it is reciprocal. I have worked with children as a counselor for over 16 years and allowing a child to bond with an animal teaches genuine compassion. I am known here affectionately as Bobcat and the tender feelings I get from saving my wild friends is priceless. This is a pic of "My Boy" Metatron. I saved him from an ice storm in 1998 when I first came here. I found him in a dumpster compartment and in fragile condition crying. I picked him up and he leaped inside my jacket. At first I thought he was going to bite and scratch but discovered he just wanted warmth. I took him home and slept on the floor on a blanket I put in the dryer to keep him warm. A day does not go bye when I have to pick him up for him to feel my warmth as the warmth he gives to me is priceless. I work two jobs just to make sure my "kids" get everything they need as what they give in return is priceless. I would love to hear animal rescue stories from others too....Bobcatmoom

I happen to have a 22 year old female cat. I understand she was owned by a lady in a trailor for ten years who gave the cat to my father-in-law who had her for eight years and then he died. No one was living in his house and no one was feeding the old girl, so we went down there picked her up and brought her here. That was about four years ago.

She was infested with fleas and something down in her ear but we took are of that.

She is now so skinny I am afraid every day she is going to drop dead. I try to feed her but she will hardly eat.

I posted the above on July 27. The cat died in her sleep on July 29. I built a box and buried her in the back yard.

The house smells better.

I don't think I will ever have another animal. They die.

It hurts like he*ll when they die. I know. When my first Golden Retriever died 5 yrs ago, it took me a year before I was ready to get another dog. I did so because my daughter wanted another so badly. My son hated the hurt he felt when our first dog died. He felt he never wanted to feel that way again, so he never wanted another dog. He will not allow himself to get close to either of the two dogs we have now, nor the cat. Sad.

Large dogs require lots of exercise, so need to be taken on long walks where they can run, unless you live in the country where they are free to run all day. Small dogs make great pets, because a good walk a couple of times a day is good for both the dog and owner.
Cats are low maintenance. It's said they are independent. Trust, but most cats are very loving, and seek your company and attention. A cat or two can give alot of joy to a person who is alone. So if you find yourself hurting and grieving over the loss of your cat, you'd do the same over a person you loved. Give yourself the time you need to grieve. Then consider getting another cat from a rescue foundation. There are lots out there who need rescuing, and have alot of love to give to you.

When I was a kid about ten or twelve years old I happened to be out in the woods across the road from where we lived and some other boys were there who had some big coonhound type dogs. A feral cat appeared from out of nowhere. One dog grabbed the cat's head end the other one grabbed the cat by the other end and in the blink of an eye the cat was torn half in two.

The dogs weren't mean, they were just doing what dogs do.

Cats are wonderful. I couldn't live without a few. Believe it or not, I am owned by a 25 year young /oldRussian Blue who is so ugly he is cute. I also have a 18 year old cat. They are such joys..... If anyone doesn't like my cats or German Shepherd Louie, I have no use for them. lol
