did you really date a shrink? Did you talk to her? Were you afraid you were being analyzed....or were you hoping that you were? How did it end? Was she the one woman who really did understand you, and if so, why didn't you keep her? Ok, your turn.

Yes, I have briefly dated or known very well several shrinks. They may have been writing a case study of some kind about me. lol

Actually, two of them had problems with getting close to anyone. One was a very attractive former nun who still didn't know who she really was, even though she quit the church when she was in her early 20's.

Another moved for a job with a big industrial shrink firm in Dallas. They were all just ordinary people with ordinary problems. I don't think any of them thought I was nuts, but what do they know. lol I actually consulted to this lady on a cross cultural training course contract. That was fun.
___________

"Were you afraid you were being analyzed" etc.

I am sure they didn't have any problems understanding me, I am a open book. I may like to let my kid out a little every now and then, but most people usually know when I am teasing and having fun.

tanamaria,
YOu are doing a very noble job, the sort of dreaded manual task that is thankless and no one wants to do.
I think I know how hard it is cos my husband needed 4 male nurses to attend to him when he was incapacitated , for all his daily needs ..so people like you are doing an invaluable service.

Katie,
I have followed your thread and quietly admire your determination to stay passionate and true to your art and love for painting. It is hard to be a pure artist, I have been trying to help a friend's son to get his work exhibited and recognised by galleries in London and it is very very hard here. You need to be well connected here with the well heeled who will buy your art..so it is a snobbish social scene and a bloody frustrating one if you are faithful to your art and refuse to paint pictures to suit the wall color of some dim lady with more money than artistic sense..
I do admire artist like you who would take on other jobs just so they keep doing what they believe in...good on you, wish I have your courage. I became a lawyer by default or more for mercenary reasons, so now I have time to indulge what I love, my craftwork and writing..and Im fortunate to be able to indulge now but find the spontaneity is lost somewhat through long-term profit-conditioning ...need to get out of 2%% mindset..lol..hear hear wwwww!!

Thanks Bonnie!
Isn't it blissful to be creative? I've worked two days straight on a painting or writing several chapters of my books when I'm on a real roll! It's Nirvana!

As a lawyer I could only hire legal immigrant workers..MyFilipino cleaner is here and there are several like her working extremely hard. Her good friend just died of cancer recently and I try to look into her legal affairs and help when I can. They are a hard working bunch of ladies who contribute a large size to the foreign income of their country..

I do the same. I assume you are talking about immigrant workers that have LEGALLY entered a country. I live only 60 miles from the U.S., Mexican border and illegal immigration is a big problem in AZ. A lot of the people that hire ILLEGAL immigrants, are also some of the first people to complain about illegal immigration. Surprise, surprise. Just goes to show that a lot of people look at things only as they effect them at the time. Sad, but true.

causing housing prices to increase is the additional insurance premiums that builders have to pay to cover losses caused by shoddy workmanship.

Builders and shoddy workmanship..you are going into my pet hate again..

here their favorite trick is to come in dismantle your house and disappear for months with your deposit and leave you at their mercy...
it took me a whole year to get my simple bathroom tiles repaired hree in London while in that same time I could get an entire team to renovate my Singapore apartment for top to bottom and at a fraction of the cost here..long distance..the comparison is so ridiculous..
Most people here are looking to bring in Polish workers and builders since EU have allowed them to work here. They are reliable , professional and so much cheaper.
Immigrant workers is the only answer to the shortage of good workers here.. and I believe in the US too. Alot of my US friends have Mexican workmen to do the manual tasks around their homes, from odd-jobs, cleaning to gardening and DIY repair..

I think that is a problem everywhere today. Finding qualified and honest people is not easy especially with the construction boom that is currently going on. CNBC was talking about one of the things causing housing prices to increase is the additional insurance premiums that builders have to pay to cover losses caused by shoddy workmanship. In my case I am lucky. My house mate manages property, so we get top notch service when we need it.

OK www...here we go again..we also need a watch-dog body to keep an eye on these fly- by -night operators who prey on old ladies with their bs on plumbing and electrical jobs...

I think most of the charge by the size of your house when they come..and I know they do all the time..

You sound lovely. lol. I am pretty handy and can do a lot of the trade skills. I only work on my own stuff though. Plumbing is my least favorite. I have really never done real rough in plumbing, but whenever I work under a sink or behind a toilet I always end up banged up and feeling like a contortionist. At my age, I am more apt to hire people to do those jobs these days. The thrill is gone. lol.
