Bonnie when i hear those stats then i am thankful that i am living in a place where we don't have to share rooms and flats. Many here do and many rent out their rooms in their houses. But we are accustomed to privacy and that's the way i like it. Many cultures here do it and have a good size income between them all. But that is the only way they can survive. You could not live in Dallas on 10$/hr very well. It is only going to get worse and i wonder how many people wil be able to survive if and when that happens....

S4U you bet we can be thankful and appreciate our own cost of living in Canada & USA. While in London last week I looked at a couple of apartments posted in the window of a Harrod's Real Estate office. A one bedroom approx. a 1000 sqft apartment was selling for 1,875,000 pounds, which converts to approximately $4.5M Cdn or $3M USA...guess what...that's only to lease it for 40 years! After paying all that money you do not own it! Another property was selling a 45 yr lease on a 1 bedroom 1200 sqft apartment for $2,375,000 pounds.
I don't know how people manage to live and have spending money other than to share a flat with several people.

It's amazing how much "bashing" begins towards a person (Hmmm. a "friend" of mine) who decides to bow out & move on gracefully and peacefully after meeting someone from this site who has been deceptive in their description of themself.

These people, who somehow convince themselves that their dates will undoubtedly be interested once they meet in person after months of supposed "chemistry building" via email and phone conversations, are so offended when things die down after date #1.

I have yet to understand why people think they can lure others in when things began with deceipt and untruths.
Oh well.

Amen to that, Versatile!!

There are fun insults and there are mean insults. I love a good put down that is in fun and that is witty and creative, even when I am really slammed.

However I do not believe there is much good to say about people that just love being mean. They are just showing their azz and probably need a shrink to help with their inferiority complex, narcissism, and psychopathic disorders. We usually try to run this type off of this forum, but some manage to survive.

You are very perceptive Me LAD. I chose lassy because weelassie was already taken....lol...otherwise I would of used the correct spelling Hun. However, I believe I was able to convey my scottish background to others and was successful in doing so. That, I believe, you were able to determine on your own.

But the bright side of things is for most of us in London , it is easy to sell and move out to a cheaper place outside but it would be hard for anyone who want to move from outside of London back in..

Many do move to neighbouring towns & villages and commute...but it just pushes up the prices there!! I live near Leeds which is an up and coming town and getting more like London everyday...so most in Leeds are buying apartments in Bradford(which is much prettier) which are now going for the equivalent of 159,000.00 USD for a tiny 1 bedroomed apartment!! House prices are much higher... yet our income is alot less than Leeds! Go figure!!

But yet each day tons of refugees from China and East Europe try to come thinking London is paved in gold. A friend of mine runs language schools which are basically disguised work permit dispensers to people who come in on student visas to work. Many live in digs where you share 5 to a room and they all do odd jobs that no one want to do.
MY odd job man charges US$45 for first half hour, plumber and electrician charge about US$70 per hour and $60 at least for transport and the gardener's rate is US$30 per hour..so lots of people would come to work here if you have the basic blue-collar skills that everyone need. This is many fold better than what a first year medical intern gets for his long hours in hospital.
For a strange reason , London remains a magnet for so many. I would love to leave but my kids love it.

The average wage in London is not different from US, minimum wage at Mcdonalds is US$7 per hour. My cleaning lady is paid US$15 per hour.
If you send your kids to private school it will be about US$16000 in day school and boarding school for my son is US$45000 to 50,000 a year. State education within London is dismal , so most middle class families have to send their kids to private school or move out.
The average white collar worker cannot afford to live in central London if he ahs a family, as a single he will have to share a flat. If he is in the necessary services e.g. fireman , teacher, police, nurse..they will get subsidised housing. So central Londoners are the highest tax payers in the country, the top 12% supporting the entire country. Our tax rate is high, top rate is 40% and it hits anyone making about US$50,000 and above..
WEalth takes on a different dimension here..

I have a few question's for you. Now remember before you answer them, Los Angeles was just named in the top three most expensive places in the "World" to live in! We beat out New York, Boston, and San Francisco by a good margin. Our minimum homes here cost over 500K now, and that gets you a two bedroom one bath in the Ghetto or Barrio areas
______________________________________

Just for the record, I think the most expensive city in the world to live is London followed by Tokyo ..
in central London, property is about
?1000 (approx US$1800) per sq. ft. )
at its peak in the 90s, central Tokyo was US$10,500 per sq ft...which means an average apartment of about 2000 sq ft.(3 bedrooms) will set you back
US$3m in the best of London and US$21m in the best of Tokyo for earthquake ridden airspace!
minimum price of 2 beds and 1 bath apartment or tiny cottage house or mews house is over US$750,000 in central London...so most people live outside of London and commute..so most Londoners who own a decent home would automatically fall in the category of millionaires but not necessarily feel like one.
I should know I live in these cities..
here in London living in apartments in Central London also require annual maintenance of about US$20,000 a year.
A small cup of coffee at Starbucks is US$5 and the cheapest bus ticket is now US$2.30 ..

AHHHH you two. I thought this thread was about rich woman blah blah blah. I haven't read this in quite awhile but something caught my attention. Do we need to get you into the gym and put the boxing gloves on...LOL That's the way the coaches started doing it many yrs. ago.

Weelassey you are a sweet, beautiful lady whom i have enjoyed talking to on and off. The problem here is that you and Kelli have many of the same traits. You speak your mind, opinionated(now wee this is NOT about me..LOL)and you have a sense of the way you think people should be treated(vocally)You have come to my rescue on occasion.(Dawn gives you a big hug for that)And you have a great sense of humor..

Kelli whom i have known of or known for the time i have been on is also mind speaking, opinionated and speaks exactly as she thinks the situation calls for. On prior occasions she has been quite rude(i have told her that sevral times. But Wee as much as we at times might not agree with it i know enough about her in private emails to be able to say she does not say anything with a mean thought in her head. It is what she thinks and she says it. Not always right because it can and does hurt peoples feelings. I excepted that about her along time ago and my answers to some of her statements would be simply FU kell and the horse you rode in on..LMAo and with a smile of course then we would go eat Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches. I think the world of Kelli as i am use to her ways. I also think the world of you as i see much of me in you and i would say if we were neighbors we would get a long super..LOL
You two are alike yet different and those ways of difference is what you two can't agree on. NYC is not going to change and Weelass you are not going to change your opinion so i hope both of you can find a fine line and call a truce. Until now i have not seen any of the ole Kelli appear for a long time. But then i don't read like i use to.
Both of you are wonderful women. Two people i have enjoyed knowing. You don't need any mediators. I don't know any that would foot the bill
What you both need to do is just have a wrestling match in a huge arena of jello and see which one can stay standing the longest. You both would be sitting down LYAo and all this would be forgotten... (Damn it's a bit*ch Wee when you work 3-11 and have to stay up to wind down and end up writing a book..
hugs and kisses to you both....S4U

I am a gentleman, Do we agree on that? You are a lady, do we agree on that? You are from or of wealth? I am self made wealth! I worked very hard to obtain my wealth, I did not get it the old fashion way either- (Inherited) Ok, so we both have it, what now? Do you really wish to flaunt it in the faces of those who are less fornutate? And why would you want to do that? Not being ambiguous of your intentions lady! Just curious? Please explain this to me! Thank You.

NY Chick Replied:
oops sorry bright im a bit late on your questions.. i narrowed it down to your main question which was why would i like to flaunt? no reason really just cause i can

OK NY Chick,

Does this give you pleasure "Just because you can"? I would surmise that you would treat people the way as you would like to be treated in return? I realize we grew up in the same generation, but two completely different worlds. But thanks for enlightninging me on this, and for being honest about your intentions.

Weelassy responding to this crap...lol

Wow sorry to inform everyone that she(nychick) is very Jerring which means contempous laughter/prank of riducule..basically everyone in her eyes are a laughing stock....that is the true definition in the dictionary. What NYCHICK does best is utter Scoff...which is to mock at or treat others with derision or Scorn...Scorn? you ask? is Contempt or disdain feelings toward everyone, considering she feels your despicable.

However in her eyes she see's it as being witty....lol...Tisk Tisk...Keli

The behavior you exhibit is not entertaining nor strickingly clever......lol.

Sorry to burst your bubble...I know you have many friends and some are mine also...I do hope it will stay that way after this post

Ciao

I made my comment as I agreed with NYChick that some comments are made in jest, but people interpret them differently, often with a negative slant. Again, good luck.

Very dissapionted in your beliefs of Jest Sharon...People as you are referring them to be.... Are very real and not interpretting this in any other way then the negative connotation....

Sorry I TOO say it as I see it. I will assume my friendship with most will be lost for telling it like it is as I stood up to one in the click....lol

Hey WeeLassy, no lost friendship here...everyone has their opinion...if it differs from mine, so be it, not the end of the world, nor does it mean I have to dislike that person. :-)
Geee...I hope it's not me you are refering to as "stood up to on in the click...lol" I'm in no click. I just bounce around and post where it interests me most at the time. Sometimes certain people will draw me too. Your one of them...so is NYC! lol

But I do disagree with you. You see sometimes I have posted something, and while I'm posting I'm laughing to myself over my post, I have a particular meaning ... only to see a really nasty post regarding mine, or receive a nasty email over it, because at the time when I was writing the post, it didn't occur to me it could be seen in a negative light. Now I'm explaining myself in emails, and posts... That's what I mean by ambiguous. And I think others have occasionally experienced the same. It happens.

No worries my Lass I was not referring to you in any means. You are a sweety pie to bad you defend this negative connotion NYCHICK infiltrates....lol

Little old me does not rage and certainly will not be drawn into her/others vortex....I felt compelled to say it as I see it.....wink wink-lol. I giggled the whole time I wrote a response to that thread....at no time was I saying it viciously. Very difficult to show the funniness when one cannot hear the tone of voice or see my facial expression. What makes it more funnier is she says quote " Barbie the best response is no response did you know that.. LOL...Maybe she follow her on advice.....because she responded...lol

What is up with these daft people?...lmfao
