BFDEAL...you make an assumption in your comments which is not true. This is why it probably seems confusing. The EndTimes is not the death, destruction and obliteration of all things...it is the ending of the Age. Think of it more as an epoch of time. Lifeafter is a misnomer...because by definition it assumes we cease and then live again which has no basis. Life/living has never stopped for any individual since our creation and will continue indefinitely for many but not for all. The EndTimes as an event simply places position in the timetable of events which we are told shall come to pass. As for the sin part...sin always has a consequence and as you rightly state...everyone sins. For the accounting...sin is considered debt. All accounts must be squared...no exceptions. It is not all about whether your soul lives or dies...there is a hierarchy in heaven...there are rewards given as well as penaties levied. Many will not have their soul put to death but will find they are in the lowest echelon of the order--even in that there is joy but make no mistake...all sin is accounted and it is not just as simple as asking for forgiveness. Also, for some sins we pay a penalty now. Each to their own, but no bad deed goes unpenalized just as no good deed goes unrewarded.
I don't get it. If you believe in end times then you must believe in life after death, so death is not a problem. And if you don't believe in end times, then you must not believe in all the rest, again, no problem, it's a hoax with a bonus - sin has no consequence in the afterlife since there is no afterlife, sin away baby.
And if you pick and choose which parts you believe, why not pick the live forever part and not the end times part, why would you want to pick the bad stuff for you instead of the good stuff. Oh, you believe in the afterlife but you are a big time sinner? Quick, ask forgiveness, it's automatic you get forgiven if you confess you know.
I love theology...it is a puzzle unfolding in front of us. Are we in the end-times...I think yes. Not just because I think it feels like it, but I believe what the Bible states and the Bible has plenty to say about the end-times events. I believe we live in an ordered universe,ie. there is a plan and that plan unfolds in its due course. We have been told of that plan, and it is our choice to strive to understand or be content as events pass us by totally unware. I think it takes a lot more faith to believe things just happen randomly than according to a plan ...I don't have enough faith to believe in random chaos. The good thing is that we are told enough about the plan to recognize it if we want, profit from it where we can, and attempt to be ready when it comes. It is always dangerous to state dates because they are just WAGs; however, I believe the end of this "earth age" will occur during either 2028-2032 which is supported somewhat by the timeline carved into the Great Pyramid of Giza or 2068-2072 which is the following Jubilee period and still within the generational period from the time Israeli state was setup by the UN. If not, it could be millions of years. Just keep your eye on Jerusalem...when they begin to build the Temple where the Dome of the Rock exists...know the time is short. Since that is Arab controlled territory at present and very sacred to Muslims...it would take all but a miracle to have a Jewish Temple built there--but it will happen exactly as it was written!! Nay-sayers will still scoff?but that is just fine. Some people can look at the whole universe and find no evidence that God exists and others see evidence everywhere they look. Oh, by the way, the earth is never destroyed or ends by Biblical teachings. Research it...
I just recently read an article in the Houston Chronicle about Yellowstone National Park. It seems there is a "hotspot" several miles below the surface of the western United States that erupts into a supervolcano every so often about every 630,000 years. The last one under Yellowstone blasted several cubic miles of stuff into the atmosphere changing the face of north America and the world. The last one was about 630,000 years ago so what does that say? Maybe another one will blow shortly, maybe not.
It has nothing to do with God, or the sins of mankind or Biblical prohesy, if it does it it will be geological.
If it does you probably won't read about it in the papers, there will probably be no papers, or hear about it on TV, there will probably be no TV. But you will probably hear the bang and feel the ground shake. And there will be no place to run.
All of the water, gas and electricity will be gone shortly. The sky will turn black from dust and the soot from fires. Of the roughly six billion people on the planet about five billion of them will die in the first week. The young the old and the sick will go first. The crops and cattle will die. There will be an awful odor everywhere. There will be no firetrucks, no police, no EMS, modern life as we know it will be gone.
You may say that we survived without those things in the trees and in the caves and on the plains of Africa and Europe thousands of years ago. I will say sure but since we are used to them today we will be hard put to survive without them.
Even though I am an atheist I will say that Joel Osteen and his wife Victoria seem like very nice people. What he and she preaches is just good advice on how to live your life. I just wish he didn't base it on the Bible but if he didn't do that he wouldn't have a church.
Dr. Phil does it without the Bible. I like Joel Osteen better even with the Bible.
I am just wondering if and when Joel Osteen will stub his toe like Jimmy Swaggert and some of the others in real life as well as fiction such as Elmer Gantry.
The end of the world has been prophesied many times. Ever heard of cargo cults?
I saw a prophesy in the paper the other day saying the earth will be destroyed about seventeen years from now. I wonder what the guy will be saying on the first day of the next year? That he made an error in his calculations?
But first what does a person mean by "the end of the world"? Does he mean that all of the people or most of them will be destroyed like the dinosaurs? All dinosaurs were not wiped out, if you count birds as modern dinosaurs. Or does he mean that the earth will be wiped out as it is certain to be, if it hasn't been before, when the sun goes Red Giant, and the earth is vaporized some 5 billion years from now?
SKYBOLT_man write: I just wrote a book on the coming Wrath of God its called 'When Shiloh Comes'. As a scientist interested in solar physics and stellar dynamics I'm convinced that we're in for it with the next decade or perhaps less. The next solar maximum could trigger all the events of the Wrath that was prophesied by Jesus and various prophets. First the impact of a Coronal Mass Ejection together with an energetic solar flare or two in quick succession could stimulate the Earth's EMT (electromagnetotoroid) into mode change from the Del X E vector field mode to the Del X H vector field mode going from a magnetic dipole structure to an electric dipole state. Then all hell will begin to break loose and 4 of 6 billion people will be destroyed. CC.
Geez, dude. Lighten up.
That's preety cool stuff or the biggest crock of %^%^(&%^#%& I've ever heard (if it is, I'm even more impressed).
A poser to everyone:
If there was a God , and at birth he stamps your expiry date on your bottom, would you live your life differently if you knew when you are going to expire?
What if God decides to mix up your expiry dates with someone elses?
A hundred years?
A thousand years??
As much as we'd like to believe otherwise, Mother Nature (see? we even give nature a nurturing name) is anything but benevolent.
In fact, "nature" could care less about the human species in general. We are but a microcosmic speck in the overall picture of the universe.
Whether it be by a shift in the poles (it has happened before btw, and is overdue to happen again), or a meteor impact, a solar flare, a super volcano, or disease, it WILL happen.
I don't fear it, and I don't live in despair. It saddens me to ponder it, but it is GOD's way. Therefore I don't question it. Rather I choose to live my life today as a blessing. Thankful for the beautiful blue skies, the singing birds, and even women
Sorry I couldn't resist that Ladies.
Did someone in another post say, live laugh, and love?
No Way ! Biblical scholars have concluded that there will be clear signs of the end of the world, signs we all can read. Specifically, the most important sign is that the headline on the front page of the New York Post, will state in huge block letters:
METS GAME CANCELLED !
In small letters underneath, it will say "Due to Armageddon"
