In addition to a cat, I also have a Colombian Red-Tailed Boa Constrictor named Samantha that is almost 8ft. long. I got her as a tiny baby and now she is 10 years old. My son has a Hermit Crab he named Jeffrey. (Although we are now on our third.....) :-) What pets round out the rest of your families??

Rubenesquetotty write: Hi Hotmama! Your Samantha sounds really cool! As well as my 3 dogs,3 cats & a Horse, I have a very 'Handsome' water Dragon called Vinny, he is only a baby, 6 months now & he is so tame (well as tame as a reptile can be..lol) I think our lovable cold-blooded little critters are becoming more popular as pets & it'll be interesting to see what other unusal pets folk have on here?.... I had a snake a few years ago, just a little corn snake called Nelson, I lost him in a custody battle though..lol No doubt if another one comes along up for adoption (I am very involved with animal rescue centres over here) Being the s~ucker I am, it'll end up coming home with me...
Stay Lucky ;o)
my god woman u are like ellie mae clampett with all them critters
If I lived closer - I wouldn't need begging.. I'd beg you to 'let me at her' lol
This parallel walking method works a treat, just takes patience from you & acceptance & tolerance from Izabel, which she will gain from you anyway, which is why is is important for you to stay calm... If her 'Master' is calm..she'll follow suit..
I get ya... Without knowing all the facts, ie her age, whether she is entire or neutered etc, it sounds more like Under-socialized rather than dog to dog agression, allowing her to mix with dogs is a step in the right direction, but introductions will need to be strictly controlled. Try asking a friend who has a sociable dog to go walking with you.. walk parallel with dogs next to each other but at a distance, on loose leads (This is important as tight leads cause frustration & intensity) but with no contact with both dogs, don't let them touch each other.. When you feel that the dogs are not focused on each other, or in your case, when Izabel eases off shouting & eyeballing the other dog.. this may take some walking together before she'll feel comfortable enough, slowly get closer, still walking, if things stay calm, you can allow the dogs to contact - on loose leads still.. & try to remain silent, human interferance can instigate anxiety - dogs communicate better with each other when left to it, watch Izabel to see how focused she is on the other dog & try to end on a good note, she wont know how to act if she is not well socialised, so just check her body language, if her ears & tail are down or she l~icks her lips, she's being submissive, but if she's standing tall with tail erect, she's dominant.. keep the inital contact very brief then take her away from the other dog, as long as there's no drama tell her she's a good girl, after you pull her away from the other dog do this a couple of times or how ever many times it takes for her to accept the other dog in her company.. Then when you feel she's not so focused on the other let them off together but again stay quiet, she may come to you for reassurance & as hard as it seems try to ignore her initially at first let her work it out for herself.. It will take time, but as long as the associations remain good, she soon learn how fun having doggie friend can be... Let me know how it goes...
Thanks Ruben. Izabel does not do well with other dogs both males and females. She gets very excited when she sees one. I think she just want to play but she is rough and dominant and will approach barking, with fur up and her tail wagging. She doesn't know how to introduce herself properly. She is getting better but still needs work. I would appreciate any help you can give me. TIA...Bill
I love GSD's (German Shepherd Dogs) I am currently looking after one called 'Rock' while his family are on holiday (He is in a pic on my profile) He had alot of issues when they got him - Nervous aggression, chase, & re-directed aggression all very common in GSD's. I gave the family a work programme to work with him & now 16 months later he is a fabulous dog - I don't want him to go home! lol
The loyalty & partnership a GSD owner has is truly remarkable, you see if someone knocks at my door, my 3 dogs would want to rush & see who it is & want to l~ick 'em all over.. But Rock will take a back seat & watch me for a reaction, not the visitor, when he sees me ok - he's ok. I feel so safe with him here.
When you say Izabel is still a bit rough around edges, what exactly? GSD are very good dogs to work with due to their craving for mastership, tell me about her issues.. I'll do my best to help?
