I've found that initial career decisions are often based on emotions rather than being financially lucrative. I've spoken to more than a few college students that made their career choice based on a dramatic event ocurring earlier in life that prompted or motivated them to want to change the world (so to speak). The same holds true for community service. I've always been an advocate of giving back to the community in whatever way you can. My motivation comes from having men mentors as I was growing up; each in his own way took ownership in giving me guidance along the way. Today, I always find a way to give back; woman and child abuse being my primary crusade. Depending on my geographical location, it could be reading to elementary school kids; teaching advanced adult night school, assisting with feeding the homeless; door to door solicitation for voter registration, Cub Scout Master...on and on and on... Two years ago, I started carrying an additional suitcase (not for shopping -smile). I started collecting the hotel's toiletry items to bring back and give to homeless shelters. Everyone has a personal crusade... What's yours? If you do a type of Community Service (other than making a financial contribution) how do you give of your time to give back to society? What makes this so important to you?
