If we are what we eat, then our children will soon be Disney, Nickelodeon and Sesame Workshop characters. Isnt this a great way to put health and fun together.. All three children's entertainment companies have launched fresh deals to put their names on healthy foods. Most recent is Disney, which has partnered with Kroger to put its characters on 100 "fun and healthier" food items, plus health and beauty products and floral items available only in Kroger stores. This new branding will cover such lunch-box-friendly products as fresh fruit in kid-sized packages. The Disney-Kroger deal follows a Nickelodeon agreement to put SpongeBob SquarePants and Dora the Explorer on apples, pears, cherries and soybeans. In September, Del Monte will start pasting Elmo, Grover and Cookie Monster onto packs of green beans, sweet peas and corn. The Campaign for Commercial-Free Childhood is skeptical that such marketing deals will lead to a decrease in selling sugary treats to kids. Nevertheless, "Any effort to get children to ask their parents for fruits and vegetables is welcome," said the Center for Science in the Public Interest's Margo Wootan. And what about Spongebob characters on carrots? putting cartoon characters etc., on fruits and vegetables is probably better than bags of chips and other junk food..Is it sending the wrong message that food is all about constant entertainment. I love and enjoy food, and it's great to use it in celebrations, but it seems like the message out there is that it needs to be exciting all the time. Marketing companies have to be good at influencing our judgment and cant afford to lose standings because another station will give the public what they 'want' not what they need to alter behaviors..and there is those stats of behavior modification used to let them know how to trigger our choices...are we finally getting better at the uses of our TV and media manipulation? It's really up to the parents when it comes to what is on the shelf at home and it is the responsibility of TV? and media to teach parents....????

The World has become a very bizarre place and these charactors infiltrate everywhere. This IS true, I was hiking thru a rice terrace on Bali last year,,out in the middle of nowhere,,,the people do not have electricity,, nor refrigeration, cook on fires or propane if they are well off,,,but out there, I walked by this house and tacked to the frontdoor was a stuffed doll of SpongeBob ! later i was at a tiny village store,,,they didnt speak english , but they knew what Coke a Cola was !
