I would like to get different opinions from everyone about relocating for someone you have met and fell in love with. Whether you met them over the internet or some other way. Would you be willing to relocate if you were in love? Would you move away from your friends and family to live with your love. What conditions would there be for you to do this?

I would love to be that open minded but I tried leaving once and was more miserable than any human should be allowed in one lifetime. I just can't see leaving my "homeland." My family settled the state, I just can't leave!

I think it all depends on the two people. Could making a move be good for one of the two people. If one of them is in an area where it's making them unhappy then perhaps it is a good idea for them to move. There are a lot of key factors in every decision.

CDinCO, I wouldn't relocate either, for similar reasons as you. I've got a child, and it wouldn't be fair to him to uproot him when he's pretty close to his grandparents, aunts, uncles, uncles, cousins, etc. and I can't imagine any guy being worth giving up all my friends and family for, even if I DIDN'T have a child to think about. It'd be one thing if there was a 100% ironclad guarantee that he would NOT dump me the moment he met someone richer or prettier, but since there never could be, that's not a risk I'm willing to take. Plus if he's not willing to relocate for me, why should I do it for him? Just because I'm a woman, and we're the ones expected to make all the sacrifices? Screw that! At least if I date someone local and it doesn't work out, I won't be homeless afterward as a result of it. I very well could be after a failed long distance relationship.

I met a man on line 1.5 years ago he worked his way into my house in 4 months selling his house 50 miles away. I now call it my 'interNUT whirlwind stupid move'. I found out he was given an 'involuntary discharge' from the USMC after 22 yrs as a Major. His Ex married him 3 X and left him each time. He was crabby, moody, lazy, confrontational, contenious, whiney and I found out loved misogynistic porn. I told him to leave the next morning after only 2 months of living together. He resurfaced after 7 months apart trying to get ME to give up my 10 yo successful biz and new home on a GC in FL, to move with him to BOISE. (Right...I live in W Palm Beach FL) He accepted a job in BOISE ($50k pay CUT to earn $65k and his $300,000 mortgaged house is sitting here in FL 5 mos unsold...to which he will lose every penny of his savings). He wonders WHY he lives "pay check to pay check" The Moral you never know someone OR how bad they are at MATH (lol) until you live with them!!! My best to you!

I can't. I am 5th generation (that's all there are here) Colorado. I have deep roots and ties to family, history and the community... I am not a flight risk ; ) I wish I could be more open-minded but I just don't see it happening. I would love it if somebody would do it for me but would never place that expectation on anyone. Good luck JDavid, it's beautiful... Be careful!

I only have two sisters and they both live in different cities. Now that my little college "bird" is no longer feathering MY nest, I really have nothing to keep me tied to any place except a big hunk of a man who loves me. That would be reason enough for me to give up almost anything. A good love these days is hard to find, and when you do ... you follow it!

I have done it twice. I happen to have a job that allows me to relocate. And I happen to love moving ( I know I'm weird!). So its never been a huge issue. I love new places so even if it doesnt work out I have fun!

In my opinion, If you love this person and she loves you. And you willing to sacrifice for the sake of her.. Then go for it..It's worth a try. Ara

I live in Dallas, but all my family live in NY. I would move if I felt I met the love of my life. You never know where someone has family or friends and would be willing to move to. My best friend moved from Dallas to MN for a guy. It didn't work out, but now she is close to her family again. Good Luck to all in your searches. I will post a photo soon. I'm computer illiterate, so my son is going to help me.
