Since we all are prone to adult ADD, as well as guilty of being too picky and particular, it will take one skillfully crafted note to catch somebody's attention these days. And yes, we all get pretty much one shot at making a good first impression... There were quite a few occasions when I answered notes and they were from men who's profiles would not be picked up by my search criteria otherwise (like age, height, education, etc). Because they were tastefully composed, sincere and some incredibly funny. If you are good with words, writing comes easy, but if it's not exactly your forte, these simple suggestions might help: 1) Introduction note should be personal/personalized, no one-size-fits-all generic blubber here, does NOT contain a story of your life starting from Adam and Eve, or horror stories about ex-significant others. You clearly indicate you've read my profile and what you liked about it IN PARTICULAR 2) The note is short and sweet. Sprinkled with (tasteful) humor, you can always exchange dirty jokes later! Also compliments never killed anybody 3) Correct spelling - enough said about it in so many blogs here Always remember - your whole profile will be put under a microscope seconds later - pics (or lack of), content and style (and it better not be boring and ordinary, avoid cliches!), a combination of all the above will eventually give it a "go" or "no go" verdict...

The email should demonstrate that the guy actually READ my profile all the way through and acknowledge something in it that he noticed in particular. Otherwise, I'd wonder if he's just sending the same message to dozens of other women. One-line/sentence replies don't cut it either. Most laughable is when the guy writes (or sends the wink that says), "Liked your profile, tell me more." Uh, why SHOULD I, when you were too lazy to type more than six words?
