Dear, dear MM reading blog friends,

Please forgive me for being so late with my blog this month. I've been on vacation in Florida and then had to make a quick business trip as soon as I got back. I hope to be stationary for a while.

What are you reading now?

Why did you make that selection?

I went to the library today, not my normal day to go, and selected, The 6 Husbands Every Wife Should Have by Dr. Steven Craig. 2010, Simon & Schuster.

This book looked interesting to me, particularly because the last reader, a male, left a note card in it with the following quote:

"My job as a partner is to constantly reinvent myself, maturely and without resentment or regret. Doing so not only makes my marriage better, it makes my life fuller and it makes me a better person as well as a better husband. If I didn't face and make these transitions, my wife wouldn't want me. Not because I wasn't a good guy, but because I didn't grow up........ The truth is, most marriages don't fail because people change, they fail because people don't change."

Bewell,

I don't recall you getting OUR permission to leave this site and go on a wonderful vacation.....hahahaha   Sounds like you got some rest and enjoyed your grandson (what a cutie).

I am re-reading THE SECRET and THE POWER by Rhonda Byrne.  Both books energize me and help me to stay positive.

How are you liking the 6 Husbands book???

BePos,

Yes, I did get some much needed rest and as soon as I got back I made a quick 4-hour trip to visit my grandson and see him walk. It is so funny to watch him get his balance. He looks like he's trying to surf!

I've read and seen The Secret, but not The Power. Only The Power of Now. Happy they keep your consciousness going in the right direction and keep you energized.

The 6 husband's book has some really enlightening ideas in it. I'll share more about it soon. Women have 6 life-stages too. The author should have mentioned that in the title, and discusses it in the book.

Time for me to turn in.......... Toodles.......... BeWell

I FINALLY finished GUILTY WIVES this morning at 7:00 am...

Was at Walgreens today, (They always have great deals to feed my chocolate habit!)

So I perused books..

Had new King book in my hand, and thought... Hmmm... Then had another "thriller" in hand... Hmmmm... Then picked up a 3rd thriller...

Decided on Lisa Unger / Heart-Broken... "An insidious psychological thriller," according to Chicago Tribune..

I was worried King and the other one might be too scary when sleeping alone.. I can get pretty engrossed when reading... I don't want to be too scared to sleep... Which is also why I haven't seen, THE CONJERING---

Jeez---- I'M TURNING INTO A FRAIDY CAT PRINCESS!! I need to trade in my little teddy bear--- for a really big one!! ;)

Hoping............ Better make it a big, tall, stong, two-legged Teddy Bear who can fight off all the Boogie Men for you.. Ha!...... BeWell

Hi Bewell,

You said – “I also was surprised to find that it is actually damaging to a man's emotional growth when a woman solves his problem(s), or even points them out to him. The latter is probably where I have overstepped my bounderies with men the most. That book has certainly straightened me out in more ways than one.”

Well, “Moderation in all things, including moderation.”  (Mark Twain and many others.)

It might well be time to stunt his emotional growth a bit if you are two hours late getting to grandma’s house and he refuses to ask for directions.  :  -  )

RMac

RMac,

Moderation is not my best quality. ;-D  Neither are foreign languages, particularly Martian.

Yes, it is an art for a woman to motivate a man in a way that doesn't tick him off especially when the situation is getting critical. I must say that not asking for directions thing is a total mystery to most women. But, we're from Venus and don't have the brain cells to understand the why.

Another one I remember from that book is the difference between "could" and "would". Women use "could" as a softer, friendly way to ask a favor. Men take it literally.

Example: A Venusian calls her Martian at work before he comes home...

Venusian: "Honey, could you stop by the store and get a gallon of milk on your way home?"

Martian: "Yes."

Martian comes home without the milk.

Venusian: "Why didn't you bring home the milk?"

Martian: "I don't remember you asking me to."

No sex for him tonight.

The Venusian didn't understand that if she had just used the word, "would" her Martian would have understood that as a request and would have gladly gotten the milk.

The Martian didn't understand that "could" also means "would" to a Venusian. By her using "could" he didn't register it as a request to do something and his brain registered it as idle chatter and totally disregarded it and innocently forgot the conversation.

Most Venusians and Martians think they are speaking the same language, when in fact they are not. No wonder the divorce rate is so high. We (women and men) are totally not on the same page about a whole lot of things.

RMac..... It's an easy read, so.... "would" you please finish the Men are from Mars... book and tell us what you think about it?  LOL!..... BeWell.... ;-D

OK - Me I am sooooo bored, I am reading MM! LOL.

This month, I am reading/watching all of my Professor's lectures and notes! Reason why I am reading these? I need to pass my exams at Harvard University and graduate! NOT funny as I am way behind in class due to recent illhealth. And having to frantically catch up with everything else in my ever so busy life.

Liv,

Sorry I dropped out of sight for a while, and it's nice to know I was missed.

Sad to hear you've been under the weather, and do hope you are feeling better. Good luck on the studies. ......... BeWell

Well, BeWell, looking for your book found me this one:

Six not-so-easy pieces : Einstein's relativity, symmetry, and space-time by Feynman, Richard P. 1918-1988.

I may never get done with John Gray’s book.

Reading John Gray's, Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus:  The Classic Guide to Understanding the Opposite Sex.  This is a paperback version, dated 2004, of the one BeWell mentioned in her June Book Blog, dated 1992.

Have read it before, also one other of his books, the title of that one escapes me.

Decided when mentioned back in June that I needed to read it again.

Have been reading other stuff so not making very rapid progress.

RMac

Hi RMac,

Men are from Mars... is what started it all in the 90s. What a great work! It really shows us how differently we think and approach things.

I wish the men in my life would realize how the little things count just as much as the big things to women, and that we need a good mixture of both. Women also need to express their feelings which allows us to grow emotionally. When we talk about a problem, we are not necessarily wanting our man to fix it, only listen and be compassionate and there for us.

I also was surprised to find that it is actually damaging to a man's emotional growth when a woman solves his problem(s), or even points them out to him. The latter is probably where I have overstepped my bounderies with men the most. That book has certainly straightened me out in more ways than one.

Men are truly from Mars and women are truly from Venus.  But that can be a VERY good thing. ;-D

Let us know what has impressed you the most with this book............... BeWell

Awakening Intuition by Mona Lisa Schulz M.D., Ph.D.  She's a Nurosergeon and Professor at Brown and she's a rare recognized Medical Intuitive.  She mapped out the emotional impact on health and where emotions are stored in cellar memory in the body. She created a Mind-Body Network Map through all the case studies as a Teaching Medical Professor and in her own practice.  All diseases have roots in unexpressed and unresolved emotions in our lives, starting from early childhood and they create a foundation for future illness.  It's facinating.  If you're facing a disease or someone you love is facing an illness this book can help you assist your body into health and understand the process of disease and the importance resolving situations that make your life sick.

Hi Greenkindeyes,

I have read Awakening Intuition and have a copy signed by the author. Heard her speak once. She is the devotee of best selling author, Caroline Myss. Very interesting subject. I highly recommend the book too.

I truly believe that our emotions can set off illness in our body. Louise Hay books are excellent reads about that subject as well.

OH MY GOSH BE!!

What an awesome note to find in a book!!! And I totally agree w/ him...

Many marriages I have seen fail have to do more with one individual outgrowing the other.

In fact, I just told this to my GF who is recently remarried about her previous marriage!

I said, "What was Bob like when you met him?" She started naming things that now, 20 something years later, he still is...

Then I said, "Yes Karen, this is what I meant by you outgrew him. You are not in the same spot as you were when you met him. He has NOT been the one to change, YOU HAVE. When we change, our needs change."

Sounds like an interesting book!! I have so many on my list now to get!

BUT, unfortunately, I was ill for a couple of weeks and this set back my reading.. I am in the middle of last months book still.. GUILTY WIVES- Patterson....

Guess you weren't the only one late then? Heehee~

So glad to see you back! ;)

Hey, was this YOU today? Remarkable resemblance! (Actually, a bit uncanny, as it was a bit eery to search for a photo to be funny of YOU, and to see the long, flowing red hair and thin body frame, etc...  I was like... WHAT THE... LOLOL)

Nite Nite! Heading to read!! ;)
