What I regret the most is what has happened to our country. Unlike most people, entrepreneurs have admiration of the freedom that this country provides. We were able to take advantage of that freedom and opportunity because we knew it was possible if you just had the vision, the work ethic, and the belief in yourself that you could accomplish something positive and be successful. The sad thing now, unlike when a lot of us started out, is that those freedoms and opportunities have been radically restricted. Yes, there will be those that will still be successful in spite of the current environment, but the reality is that those opportunities are not going to be very plentiful in the near future.

An entrepreneur has talents that are in leadership, being the visionary, the goal setter, the motivator and leader. What I think is hard for people that have never done it to understand, is how all-consuming it is. Of course, many people work hard and it is all-consuming to them, but the difference is as an entrepreneur you cherish the all-consuming part because that is what gives you the energy to push forward. But the problem of being 63 years old, is that I know that all-consuming part will make 10 years go by in a flash, at the expense of smelling the roses. So while I wanted to work till I drop the hope was to have the balance of being able to lead a group of people, but still have time to enjoy all the good things that life has to offer. Yes I could do it again. But that isn't the balance that I was expecting. We find ourselves in this limbo situation that even if lots of money were available, there really are no good investments except to buy things and wait until the economy gets rolling again.

And that is why I have such anger at the politics of our day. What they don't understand about their good intentions to help the needy or helpless, is that the human toll on those of us, the ones that build things, are languishing in knowing that if they would just let us go back to work, we would bring all those unemployed back with us, and that would solve the problem. The policies that they are pursuing will make us linger ever longer and longer on the bottom.

Welcome to the blogs, Chavara.  I agree with you wholeheartedly--except for one minor quibble.  You say in your last paragraph:  "...what they [the government] don't understand about their GOOD INTENTIONS..."

It's that GOOD INTENTIONS part I must quibble with.  I have come to believe the great they have no good intentions, no matter what they tell themselves or us.  They are simply out for total control of the populus.  And I'm sure many of them do believe they are well-intentioned.  But their ignorance of how our country is supposed to work according to our Constitution has blinded them to reality utterly.  Others I believe are simply on a power trip and looking out primarily for themselves.

I wish you the best in your endeavors.  You sound like a man who knows exactly what he is doing and is more than capable of getting through this wretched state of affairs the Obama administration has brought the great United States of America to.

Pat

P.S.:  I couldn't resist checking out your profile and read about those grass-fed cattle.  Good for you!  I hope you can keep that up.  I understand that raising cattle this way can get awfully expensive and filled with bureaucratic nightmares to stay certified.  I wish you the best in this endeavor.  And, one of these days, hopefully, I can get my hands--or should I say my freezer--on some of this wonderful beef.  It's not available where I live and I'm dying to try it.  I suspect it would taste the way beef used to taste--and be as tender as--when I was a small child.

Hey Pat,

I caught the "Good Intentions" part as well.  I'll bet you he was just trying to be nice as not to upset Obama supporters.  If he's in business he knows the score.

I've never understood the grass feed cattle thing.  When my family had cattle or hogs we would put them up and feed them corn for a couple of weeks before slaughter.  It was always my understanding that the grass feed and whatever else they ate would make for a less taste meat...kind of like deer meat (tougher).  I may be completely wrong.

Hi Lady DI---

You know exactly what I referred to. And actually you still skirt the issue...

Are you saying we should not try to find who CHEATS THE SYSTEM in food stamps, WIC, housing, etc... ? Or all the "ILLEGALS" who benefit from the wealthy paying for them?

IN REALITY- The CHILDREN, (beneficiaries from FRAUDULENT abusers of the system) are NOT benefting at all...

They are NOT given the "proper tools" to formulate an appropriate WORK ETHIC, as well as are not capable of utilizing their "reward system" in the brain deriving from that "work ethic..."

And in reality, YES, I feel the OP WAS ABSOLUTELY referring how people DON'T WORK to reap rewards.. as he discussed "WORK ETHIC" and "BELIEF IN ONE-SELF."

Why do so many stray cats hang around the back door? B/C we keep feeding them....

WE HAVE BECOME A SOCIETY OF ENABLERS....

WHY? B/C "enabling" allows our government MORE POWER and CONTROL....

No reason to explain this, everyone with any knowledge of the system understands exactly what is happening.  It will not be long before **it hits the fan.  Everything is setting up for the perfect storm...just make sure you have shelter.

Did you think the point of Mr Chavara’s blog was "about the ones who steal from the system”?   Hmmmm….I didn’t read it that way.

FYI:

ben·e·fi·cia·ry - noun
beneficiaries - plural

Definition of BENEFICIARY

CHIMING IN HERE FOR A SEC...

Lady DI---

Children under 18 are NOT able to collect food stamps.. The food stamps are granted to PARENTS and GUARDIANS, not the children... Many "stamp collectors" then sell them to stores and people, etc.. Judge Mathis was just saying yesterday how he used to steal steaks and rewrap them and sell them to his neighborhood... Guess what? He said he was often paid in FOOD STAMPS! LOL..

Food stamp fraud is so prevalent the FBI has a special task force to investigate BOTTLED WATER!! Appears so many people collect stamps, buy tons of bottled water, DUMP IT, and then turn in the plastic for REAL $$$...

The DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE stated last year we have over $750 MILLION in FRAUD each year!! In fact, the issue is so bad, the HOUSE COMMITTEE asked last year for more to be done! So to act as if THIS isn't an issue is not being realistic. IT ALL MATTERS!

I fail to understand your premise in many political agendas, as you appear to be hold more concern regarding the "wealthy" who get away with not paying their fair share, (even though the top 4%? pay 67% of ALL taxes?)

than to hold the "poor" accountable who steal right under our noses! The ones who steal? Guess what DI, they take way food from the ones who REALLY warrant help, B/C there is no money left for them. That is exactly why I have never used the system, even when others have deemed I warranted assistance. I refuse to take away one meal from a hungry child.

THIS ISN'T ABOUT THE ONES WHO WARRANT FOOD STAMPS DI... THE ISSUE IS ABOUT THE ONES WHO STEAL FROM THE SYSTEM... (Which is the same premise as not paying proper taxes.. )

I've witnessed MANY people "work" the system...

And I HAVE gone to bed hungry.... Even when I could have collected...

As long as I am pretty and charming enough to get a date, I will never take a dime from the government... or go to bed hungry again.. ;)

The people who steal need to be held accountable.. regardless where they steal from...

I hear ya DAK!

I'm not meaning to infer it is okay to cheat on taxes...

but what people need to understand is this----

CHEATING OR NOT---

CNN states the top 10% paid over 70% of taxes last year...

Now, not only do they EMPLOY other tax payers, buy stuff that is additionally taxed, (expensive stuff), they spend money eating out all the time paying servers their income, (that BTW.. No one claims all they make there either..)

They buy cars every year, toys, expensive meals that employ high price chefs paying off culinary school etc..

People are idiots! The wealthy are our friends.. B/C regardless of how much they may fudge taxes, THEY STILL PAY OUT THE ARSE!!!

The wealthy give money to charities, and spend money like it's water! Everything they buy practically is taxed, so I feel what they pay is far more worthwhile than to dismiss the leechers in society!

Exactly!  I have purchased food stamps before from people in my neighborhood so that they could buy cigs.  Had a guy that just quite his job with me because the whole time he was working, he was applying for disability.  He got it and quit his job 2 weeks after...now he's pulling engines and rebuilding them for his race car.  Poor disabled guy.  Yet I know people that are disabled (from rheumatoid arthritis) and have applied and were turn downed, simply because they were to intelligent and to honest to lie.  And I know 3 sisters that would wander the interstate in a night gown so that they could get on mental disability.  I live in a whole town that 9 out of 10 is on some kind of gov. assistance and only 1 out of those 9 probably need it.  So no one is going to give me that poor starving mother crap...that's like the politician saying "it's for the children".  And yes there are people that need help, but rarely for a lifetime.  Gov. assistance is a way for politicians to control the people and gain votes.

Why is it that if you take advantage of a corporate tax break you are a smart business man, but if you take advantage of something so you don't go hungry, you're a moocher?  Both are provided by the government.

Who gets food stamps?

••47% of beneficiaries were children under age 18.

••8% were age 60 or older.

••41% lived in a household with earnings from a job -- the so-called "working poor."

••The average household received a monthly benefit of $287.

••36% were white (non-Hispanic), 22% were African American (non-Hispanic) and 10% were Hispanic. [USA Today, 1/18/12]

I guess those children should just get jobs. What kind of labor can we get them to do?  Perhaps a living wage for their parents might be helpful so then they wouldn't need food stamps. To qualify, a family of 4 can not exceed $22,000 take-home pay annually.  Why don't we have a Jobs Bill.....instead of hearings on stupid stuff?

It's a bit smug, if you've never been hungry.

Chavara,

Welcome to the blogs.  I cannot tell you how much I agree with what you wrote.  I am a good bit younger than you, but I still feel what you are saying.  I will not get deep into the politics of this matter but I will say this;  When a government takes away the rewards of those who work hard and gives to those that don't, then those that work hard will stop working so hard.  Russia is a good example as their is no reward for working harder.  And now politicians in America are doing the same.  At one time a person could work hard and deposit their money in the bank and get 10%+ interest.  Now anyone would be very lucky to get 2% and it's really more like .5%.  Then taxes take well over 35% of our income.  I look at capital gains, I look at growing my income...and I basically say;  Why the hell would I want to sacrifice so much of my time, risk my money, and then give so much to a government which does not share my views?  So I've just put things on auto-pilot.  I could easily grow my business ventures, make more investments, buy more goods...but why should I when the reward is not there?  I have enough to live well, no children, no wife.  So why should I break my back working only to see what I worked so hard for taxed and given to people that will not work and try.  Or bail out a economy of people that have lived beyond their means...while I live bellow my means and make sacrifices...only to be punished.  So for now the auto-pilot button is fully depressed.

PS  Just looked at your profile...We share the same name, so you must be a good guy. :-)
