Consider seven identical marbles. They are supposed to all weigh the same amount, but one is very slightly heavier. We have a very sensitive balance that is adequate for this puzzle. Find the heavy marble.
We could test them two at a time and in at most three tests we would know the heavy marble. Either we would find it directly in one of the three tests or it is the one left over.
Devise a test procedure that finds the heavy marble in an at most number of tests that is less than three.

It is a trick with words.If he had given the dollar back to them they would have paid 26 dollars.Since he in effect stole it from them they paid a dollar more or 27 dollars.It is the extra dollar they paid don’t count it twice

DAKOTA.. Didn't need google for this simple math problem...
The original $30 was divided by 3. Therefore the $26 would have needed to be divided by 3 as well, making their share $8.66 for one and $8.67 for 2 men. Therefore change would have been $1.34 for 1 man... $1.33 for other 2 guys... Making the total $26.
Had the "honest" hotel man been "completely honest," the numbers would have worked.
Just goes to show...

LOL, No, I didn't think that. Mensa apparently means dumb in Spanish...although I don't know if that is the way it is spelled. I'm far from being Mensal in a smart way although the Spanish meaning might fit nicely. :)

They come up to th bar, order five bottles of champagne and ten glasses, take their order over and sit down at a large table. Diana -- Dakota solved the last one.He may be a member of Mensa, but the solution does not require that.It only required using the facts that you already know.The first part was easy.The second part required a bit of bookkeeping.Anyhow, we shall see if anyone solves this one.I’ll post the solution either way.
