Has anyone else noticed that MM has changed perhaps all the "single" status' to "never been married"? I had originally listed myself as "single" because I've been divorced for practically forever and the baggage is long gone. That's what culturally I think most people understand "single" to mean--either never married or divorced so long they forgot they had ever been married. ;-D

BEWELL!! CONGRATS on your Newly Found SINGLE!!! It truly was creating havoc for many! There are many "divorced" individuals who prefer to refer to themselves as SINGLE.... I still prefer.... VERRRRYYYYYYYY DIVORCED!!! LOL...

Many of the men that responed to me listed Single when in fact they were divorced several times. Several of us contacted MM to change the status. Single equates to never being married. If you were married and divorced you are not single. You are divorced. We are not utilizing IRS tax filing status on a dating site.
I understand your position on this since, but for many of us who have been divorced for many years, we don't feel divorced. Were not lying that we haven't been divorced, were stating the fact that were past the divorced baggage. I'm very happy they returned the status of "single" and I'm sure many others on here agree. One thing I would like to add...... honesty is the best policy, you need to think about that, I know you understand why I mentioned this.

:-( there should be "single" or "never married". does not make sense to get rid of single plus it will cause too much drama between the people who are actually meeting

OMG! That explains A LOT!! I was chatting with a man and told him I noticed he had never been married. He informed me he HAD been married, yet his status said, "Never been married!!" He could not understand what happened, but you just explained it! He must have checked "single!" I personally think it was poor choice for MM not to notify all members, as there is absolutely a certain connotation that goes with "single."
Obviously, not all of us feel as I do, nor would I expect everyone to. I completely understand BEWELL, being divorced for 13 years and feeling "single." I am VERY SINGLE!! However, when DIVORCED is available, this trumps being single for me; as when used in that forum, it is meant to seperate "Never married" from divorced. There are religions, etc that one cannot marry another who has been divorced.
After we started discussing things, the man and I discussed WHY I noticed the "NEVER MARRIED" so quickly. I told the man, red flags wave FOR ME if a man has reached his 50's and has never had children or been divorced. It has been my experience, and ONLY MY EXPERIENCE, the men I have dated who were in this position, were more self-absorbed and selfish when it came to anyone else's needs. Now THAT IS IN NO WAY INFERRING divorced men and women cannot be selfish.. Not at all!! Or that everyone never married etc are selfish. IT HAS JUST BEEN MY EXPERIENCE when a man has been married, it shows he is not afraid of commitment... and when he has had children, he probably understands "sacrificing" and placing his own needs on the back burner... (Kids kind of do that for most!)

Addisitonally, I do understand the flip side. People just run off and get divorced at an alarming rate, neglecting to work n the "issues." etc..
I merely expounded on my thought process in effort to express "SINGLE" being checked versus "DIVORCED."

It was another profile that brought that to my attention a few days ago. Then I realized my own profile got changed from Single" to "Never Married". I had to change it to "divorced", but I don't feel divorced. It's been many moons ago. I don't understand why MM took that option away, I believe the two, "Single or Divorced" should be a choice. I prefer "Single". Not just because my divorce was sometime ago, but also for the fact that the baggage that comes along directly after a divorce no longer exists, period.
