To all women, if you are concerned about the future and feel that the world is becoming a dangerous place you may want to look into a super shelter like I did. What are your thoughts about the future? Do you believe there are troubling times to come? If so maybe we can connect with eachother. By the way this is my first blog ever!

You 'bought into it"? Does that mean it's like a commune? I thought you were talking about something like the fallout shelters of the 50's...private, one family underground living facilities. Could you tell us more about it? Not my cup of tea...I'm happy if my nearest neighbor is a couple miles down the road, but learning about it would be interesting.

Hi Windrider,

The shelter is 3,500 square cubic feet. The photos in my profile show what it looks like down below. The main photo however, is in the carraige house on the second floor.  There is also an efficiency apartment on the first floor. I chose to live in the shelter. I want to get used to living down below so to speak. It's quite comfortable in the winter and cool in the summer.

Hello CountryCheer88,

I like your first blog post!  This is important stuff to think about. I definitely feel we are in for one heck of a ride and no rapture is gonna save me from the tough times that are ahead.

I would love to be as self-sustaining as possible but that is sure not gonna happen in my present situation! I have made one good purchase so far and that is a pretty good generator. I have barely tapped on some food storage but plan on getting some more staples soon. I also want to get some type of water purification and a small solar panel along with some other necessities. If I move to a better location, I want to try Aquaponics, most likely on a small scale.

You are lucky you have a possibly shelter to share with others although we just don't know if that will really help you at this point. better to plan and not need to use something than the opposite. Having friends that know survival skills may end up being very helpful also.

I have no one to depend on, only myself and my faith. Something tells me I need to step it up. I am not organized at all, 2 lousy moves changed it all. I used to have a fire crate with my most important info.in it, that is not the case anymore. I have a generator and no stored gasoline! Lol, yeap, definitely time to get my act together!!

This blog may be somewhat depressing but it's important to share. I appreciate it, thanks :)

Curious...

In my opinion, everything to do with Obama is worse than everything else I can think of. With all the dishonest things he's pulled, I'm sure there will be no breaks for people with his Obamacare. A friend on THE Rock (Vancouver Island) pointed out that at least Obama will be under more pressure. He lost the popular vote, and if it wasn't for (what I consider against our Constitution) the electoral vote, he's be out on his a** and holed up in that 40 million dollar mansion in Hawaii he just bought. (Yes, I checked it out, and it's true). I have no use for that person...never have and never will. Sorry about the rant but he effects me like a porcupine quill in my armpit!

I have quite a few friends in Canada, and a grand nephew who lives in Surrey. The health care is as good as what we have now, better in many ways than a lot of ours, and not as good in others. It isn't perfect, but I have more confidence in what they have than what Obama intends to force down our throats like we're a flock of geese destined for foie Gras. Canada has Stephen Harper...we have Obama. I'll take Harper any day. They cover 100% of health care in almost everything, and the monthly cost to the citizens is minimal. The amount depends on which Providence you live in. We've been told they have a long waiting period to receive care, but I have a friend who was diagnosed with bladder cancer who was in surgery 2 weeks after the tests came back positive and his physician is a world renown specialist...the best you can get.

I'd much rather take my changes there than here with a president at the helm who, in my opinion, has no integrity. And just a word to all of you who voted for him...I respect your right to vote your conscience...please respect mine. I'm not posting this to argue politics. I don't like arguments, but I do welcome discussions with people who want to exchange ideas who are able to accept the fact that we don't all agree on everything. Doesn't hurt to look at both sides of the coin...we never know when new evidence might change our minds.

Hope...

You're welcome to come along, but your nails will probably get broken. Most farm work is hard and very physical. The country is beautiful beyond belief. Reminds me a lot of the Redwoods along the old Redwood Highway in northern California and the Trees of Mystery up by Crescent City. Can't believe California was (is still?) thinking about letting many of those giants be cut down to widen the road when there is already a freeway going north for people in a hurry. Seems tourists these days are too lazy to get out of their vehicles to explore and just want to cruse by snapping pictures. They have no idea how beautiful those forests are in the Spring with the sweet scent of redwoods and cedar and the the bright splashes of color from the wild rhododendrons. I've spent countless hours discovering the beauty of those forests in my youth...treading the soft, pine-strewn deer trails.

The virgin forests of British Columbia take my breath away, and the abundance of wildlife wherever you turn pulls me to that area like a magnet. The places I've been checking out back into Crown Land, and many are off the grid...self sustaining and free of the dependance on other power sources...yet at the same time giving access to high speed Internet and other amenities. About 85-90 percent of the population live within 150 miles of the American/Canadian boarder, so the further north you go, the less you have to put up with pollution and the cleaner the water.

Well, most water anyway...grin!

Hi Hope,

Thank you for your kind words and thoughts. Yes my home up north is a super shelter. 3,500 square feet above ground and 3,500 square feet below. I brought into it about 8 months ago and there are only men living there at present. It seems the women aren't quite on board as the men. I know we are an optimistic sort but we really need to define what is important and where we want to be when Shit Hits The Fan (SHTF). Personally I feel security when I'm in the shelter.

Again thank you.

Welcome to the blogs, Country Cheer...

After the apparent win for Obama tonight, I do fear...not for myself, but for America as a free, democratic country. I think her freedom is about to see it's final days, and we will be either a communist or socialist country before this person's second term is over. I hope I'm wrong, but my gut tells me I'm not.

Do I have plans? You bet. My farm is going on the market and I'm heading for one of the less populated areas in upper British Columbia. Canada has her problems, as does every country, but I don't think she would ever allow her freedom to be slowly wiped out of existence.

As for a shelter...I don't think I'll need one, I'm pretty self sufficient.

There is that one sticky wicket of Canada's socialized medicine.  Better or worse than what's in store for us with Obamacare?

...A Super Shelter? IS that one of those doomsday things?

A super shelter is a kind of doomsday structure I guess. I look at it as security.

Hi Windrider,

Thank you for welcoming me into the world of blogging. Your plans to move to Canada are interesting. I know it has become more progressive than the USA that's for sure. And British Columbia is just plain beautiful.

WELCOME and CONGRATS on YOUR FIRST BLOG COUNTRYCHEER!!

Hmmm... I have a GF I met here in Georgia who told me her trailer is all set up with a well, energy source etc... She grows so much food already she gave me some huge tomatoes!! Not sure of all the details of her plan, but she is concerned, but set.... so if I have nowhere to go, I can always go there! ;) I can't honestly say I am so worried over that at this moment in time, but I know there are people who are.

Personally, I prefer to find a strong strapping man to take care of those type situations.. I'll just ride on his coat tail.... in between getting my nails done of course! ;)

Nice to meet you and WELCOME again! The name is Hope or Hoping, cuz that's what holds my Faith! I personally can't cave into the negativity of how bad things may get... But at least there are some of you who are trying to prepare just in case.. I'll just follow you guys and let you tell me.. "Told you so!!" I definitely think it may get a whole lot worse before it gets better though!

Best wishes~~

Hope, you are so full of it!!!

You need no one; you are just too darn capable no matter what you claim.  In fact, if things get really tough, I'm going to call on YOU to take care of me!
