With all the tension most of us are experiencing with this upcoming election, I thought you all might like a little inspiring diversion.

Sometimes we all need to be shown that no matter what life throws in our path...positive things can come of it. We need to accept people as they are and enjoy what they have to share without prejudice. How many of us, who go through life without limitations, make excuses for things we can't do instead of concentrating  on things we can? This young man is an incredible human being and a reminder to all of us that when one door is closed...and something is taken away from our perception of what a 'normal' life should be ...a new door opens to amazing possibilities.

I have a very close friend from my teenage years who broke the 5th, 6th, and 7th vertebra in his back when he was 17, diving from a rock at one of our favorite swimming holes in a river. We all knew before diving every year we needed to go under water and check for rock shifts in the river, but it was a hot day and he was impatient. He was paralyzed from the neck down, and has remained so his entire life. He completed college and graduated with a teaching degree and has lived a remarkable, happy, life...after he learned to accept his limitations and concentrate on what he COULD do. During the Hippie Era, he led protests in his college town, being pushed down the street by classmates on a hospital bed. He got married a decade or so ago and is one of the most upbeat people you'd ever want to meet. This is the type of person who should be held up as examples of just how precious and sweet life can be, and as a reminder to all of us to be thankful every day for out blessings, and to quit dwelling on our limitations. We need to remember that "what doesn't kill us makes us stronger'...but only if we perceive setbacks as a lesson and refuse to allow them to control our outlook on life.

Derek Paravicini is such a person. He inspires everyone by his talent and upbeat personality, and I defy anyone to watch him and not smile.

If you missed this segment on 60 Minutes...Google this young man and be blown away by his talent and lust for life. Every time I watch him it makes me feel humbled by all the gifts I've been given during my lifetime. The clip on YouTube is a segment where he was interviewed by Lesley Stahl. He's a nephew of Camilla Parker Bowles, is a savant, and plays the piano like you've never heard it played before. If you're feeling down, this might just take you right up to the clouds!

I draw so much inspiration from this man LIV and WINDY...

When I start to feel sorry for myself... I watch a youtube video of him..

He says.. If I fail, I try again and again and again!!

I am happy to hear he is married now and having a baby!! ;)

Quoting Hoping4Love2000:

WINDY / PAT...

In my office I have a framed picture from my old broker that says:

"SUCCESS is to be measured not so much by the position reached in life, as by the OBSTACLES OVERCOME while trying to SUCCEED... "     (Booker T. Washington)

This is soooo true...

When we look at individuals and their struggles it reminds us that no matter what we may endure in our lives, we STILL have it easier than soooo many others.

One man who inspires me is Nick Vujicic...

He was born with no arms or legs... He now teaches ministry and travels... He was suicidal at one point in his life.. I believe he was around 10. He told his mother at 8 he wanted to die.. He is now 29 I think and married!! :)

INCREDIBLE what many OVERCOME!!

Hope,

This guy is simply incredible! Bless his lovely wife.

Liv.

Hope...Love the quote. I've added it to my favorites under "Motivational Thoughts". Thanks.

What an incredible story. I Googled Nick Vujicic and you're right...his wife is pregnant. About 5 1/2 months now by my calculations. What an amazing pair they make. I listened to some of his voice clips and also read quite a few quotes he has made. I think this is my favorite:

“I never met a bitter person who was thankful. Or a thankful person who was bitter.”

This world of ours is filled with the most awe-inspiring people.
