Something I try to go by when meeting someone new is I listen when they talk about their friends. It really only takes a couple of "how long have you known them" questions. If their talking really indepth about their friends yet have only known them a few months thats a flag to me.3 or 4 friends and only a short time knowing them tells me somethings up.When I talk about my friends we're going into decades of friendship with boat loads of friends.Want to know the good and bad about me,they'll be happy to tell you.LMAO

In other words, keep one's ear alert for whether or not a "date" is talking about acquaintances as friends. Heck, most of us over the age of 30 are lucky if we can call 3 people friends. At 66 I have to say I am lucky enough to call 3 people friends. All those other dozens of people I know--some I know are friends of a very limited nature; it would depend on what I need from them; others are mere acquaintances who would "abandon" me quite quickly if the chips were down. Thank God for those 3. No offense to anyone reading this for sure.

I hope she reported that man to the police! Scary to hear about the NY serial killer. There are some awful people in this world. I think if you ever feel uncomfortable with someone, they behave strangely or have weird fantasies they are best to be avoided. A guy fantasising about rape is a big warning signal. Sarah

May I add, Sarah:

Rude/mean approach or comment is a warning sign as well! Sometimes people are unnecessarily rude, sheer bad manners!

Happy Holidays!

I have heard about the bodies in NY and pray for the families of the victims, cannot imagine what they are going through.  It does not appear to be safe anywhere.  You almost have to do a background check before you accept a date.

Also sorry to hear about your friend, hope she is healing from her ordeal.  She is lucky to have such a friend drive 500 miles.  Makes me wonder if he is a rapist in real life (scary).

Thank you for your post.

Sweetie, you ALWAYS have to do a background check before you accept a date from a man on here. ALWAYS!!!

There are so many scammers on dating sites that you meed to take precautions.   Many are now in chat rooms so it is spreading.

1)  It is okay to chat just don't give anyone personal information until you or MM has verified who he is.

2) Scammers will ask you to set up a yahoo.com account and once you talk to them at yahoo they can hack you and get personal information from your computer.

3) NEVER and I mean NEVER sent a man money.  No true gentleman would ever ask you for money.

4) Most scammers profiles are fake (usually only have one photo).  The information is well written but once you get emails or chat with them their English sucks.

5)  Most scammers say they work abroad in the gem or engineer trade or minning trade.  I have also had some say they are servicemen in Iraq (talk about sleazy).

6) Don't give them your full name, account numbers, email address, home address and certainly NOT your phone number.  They will pester you!!   There are many wonderful men on this site and most have more than 1 photo and they will never ask you to talk on Yahoo or another site.  BE CAREFUL AND BE SAFE.  When in doubt report your concern to the support staff.  They do a great job of investigating.

Good Luck in life and in life.

Smart post, Bepositive. We see posts like yours once every couple of months--and yet folks STILL fall for the scammers. This one you've posted is pretty good indeed. Let's hope all our newbies, and even some of our veterans, read it word for word. Again--very smart indeed.

Scammers dont bother me,what creeps me out are the serial killers.I live in NY some syco has ben killing girls on the internet.Dumping there bodies in graves on long island beach so far they have found 11 dead girls, one of them from the town I live in.The FBI is still looking for more its ben on the news every night. The killer called one of the girls sisters with a cell phone of the victem, and told her everthing he did WOW,,,,NY the bronx and brooklyn not a good place to live.Besides the killers some of the men on thease sites are sycos.I have a couple of female friends who have had really bad experiences, meeting men on dateing sites.I have one friend she called me one night flipen out.Shes like you gota come come get me.you gota come get me.Im like wear are you,she told me.Im like thats 500 miles from my house,Im like lay low im on my way. What happend was she met some guy on a dateing site.At first he seemed real normal. He was really nice takeing her out shoping spending money on her. Then he told her he had a rape fetish,at first she liked it ,it was a turn on for her.But then it escalated to him holding knives to her throat and beating her, when they wear having sex.Thats what happend the night she called me.We wear talking on the way back to my house, shes like I cant FN believe he did this to me.There is sycos on the internet .YOU NEVER NO.

Rig--relax--and make sure you have a police lock on your door. I lived in Manhattan for over 15 years. Someone or someones tried to break in 3 or 4 times. That police lock thwarted them totally. Good luck. NYC is a tough, tough, tough place to be. Just hope you can have a peaceful, safe evening during which you don't have to expend 99 percent of your energy worrying about who's out to "get you." Once again: NYC sucks--unless you're very, very rich and can afford the kind of protection that will keep you safe from absolutely whatever. I miss the museums, and a few book stores--but nothing else. Surely don't miss the fear. Pat
