“Once upon a time, men wore the pants, and wore them well. Women rarely had to open doors and little old ladies never crossed the street alone. Men took charge because that’s what they did. But somewhere along the way, the world decided it no longer needed men. Disco by disco, latte by foamy non-fat latte, men were stripped of their khaki’s and left stranded on the road between boyhood and androgyny. But today, there are questions our genderless society has no answers for. The world sits idly by and cities crumble, children misbehave and those little old ladies remain on one side of the street. For the first time since bad guys, we need heroes. We need grown-ups. We need men to put down the plastic fork, step away from the salad bar and untie the world from the tracks of complacency. It’s time to get your hands dirty. It’s time to answer the call of manhood. It’s time to wear the pants"

NGL~ Oh well....you can't worry about the Bally girl. Those kind of incidents are like water on a duck's back. You never know what kind of day she was having. Maybe her boyfriend just broke up with her; maybe she just got passed up for a promotion that she thought she was supremely qualified. You just happened to be in her path that day to which she expressed her general annoyance. As you know, you can't control the behavior of others. Who knows...maybe the next woman you hold the door for will say, "Hey, bring that over here sweet stuff!!" *wink*

Diana,

I don't worry about things like that girl at Bally's, I have much bigger fish to fry than that. It does sometimes make me wonder. I know people have bad days and when I have a bad day (which doesn't happen often) I tend to smile when someone does something nice for me,, just the kinda guy I'm !  LOL

Thats why I hold doors open for women !  LOL...;) back at ya

NGL/RAY...

KEEP BEING A MAN.. PLEASE!!! I just read your "BALLY incident"... And I will confirm what you already know and PAT (as well as others) restated...

THERE ARE WOMEN WHO SEEK A "REAL MAN"... A MAN WHO OPENS DOORS, SITS AND STANDS AT APPROPRIATE TIMES AND WOULD NEVER ALLOW A WOMAN TO PAY FOR THE FIRST DATE.. REGARDLESS OF HER INCOME LEVEL!!

LADIES>.. I am SICK of a man QUESTIONING HOW he is supposed to act.... When you "get over yourselves" and recognize a MAN treating a woman like a "LADY" does not demeen us, yet EMPOWERS US... Then perhaps I can quit RETRAINING men you have taken the pants away from!!!

TO ALL MEN: You will see me working offshore, throwing stern lines, etc... in my pictures.. That is NOT because I think I am more qualitifed or just as qualified to do so.. I am a wimpy, yet very determined "little girl" and I took that job because that was the job available for me at the time! I am a survivor... I do what it takes... However... I would have preferred to wear make up and not break all my nails!! And YES>.. would have chosen to be in DRESSES and my STILETTOS!!

Sign me...

NOT ""wearing the pants!" (That's why I choose elf costumes and dresses over jeans.. ANY DAY!!)

@Pat, thanks for the reply. I find this topic extremely interesting. Just a brief story, I was walking into Bally's where I work out. As I approached the door, there was a woman coming from the opposite direction, I stood there for maybe a couple of seconds holding the door for her, she said, you don't have to do that, I said, Yes I do, she wouldn't walk thru the door while I was holding it. Makes a guy wonder !

Good grief, Ray. How awful. But her loss, for sure. Had she responded politely, showed a little class, and a trifling of charming gratitude, she could have made a friend of one of MM's better gentlemen. So, as I said, her loss for sure.

Well, if it's not a real ad, it should be! Couldn't agree more with the sentiment, or the content either :) I was a member of NOW for about five minutes in the 70s then realized, "Hey, wait! These chicks HATE men! I don't!" Zoooom...there went that membership lol Dudes, keep being dudes. Do all the dude things you are used to doing, and I won't complain one bit. But gals, please, can we cut these guys some slack? (or slacks as in khakis? aaargh I know but I couldn't resist!)...Who among us can cast the first stone--or toss out the first ball at a baseball game. Not me! :) Carla

@not a heather,,it's a real Ad, I just couldn't copy and paste the picture of the Ad so I did it this way. I think this man (me) is somewhat confused about this topic. My reply to Pat was a real story, so whats a guy to do.

I just keep on being a Gentleman.

Ahhh, the backlash begins. I, for one would be happy to see men holding doors again, helping little old ladies across the street. And taking charge--but only of some things. Don't mess with my kitchen, don't try to to organize my social life for me completely, and don't dare tell me what to wear. Suggest, ask if I will wear that cute little number just for you--but don't demand. DO take charge of my car. Do deal with the auto mechanics who might try to rip me off because they think we women know nothing about cars. Handle the carpenter, and the plumber, and the chimney sweep for the same reason. Please, please, please, take charge of that huge bag of garbage that's too heavy for me to haul out to the curb without throwing my back out. Oh, and one other thing. Take charge of the finances by insisting that I take charge of allocating discretionary spending, paying the bills, and balancing the checkbook. I've yet to be involved with a man whose pockets didn't develop at least a few tiny burn holes from the dollars stored in them. LOL FUN AD, RAY. I haven't seen it anywhere.
