Why do some men like trophy wives? Isn't this boring? Not being able to have an intelligent conversation, plan for your future etc. Maybe I have the wrong idea, but do trophy wives contribute to their marriages positively in any way? I would really like some well thought-out comments please.

Man wants simply to have a pretty girl next to him.He doen't want any drama. He knows she doesn't dump him tomorrow. He's not loving or very busy. Having a trophy wife is nice. It suits both parties. That relationship last for a long time. I don't want to hear from harmful people who drink and use drugs. So practicality isn't bad. First time ever i pay attention to comfort so i start wanting it. How to get it?

It does take some mad skills to be a trophy wife. After all, she's probably competing with hundreds of other women who are looking at this guy's looks, money, etc. She probably won by figuring out his needs and how to meet them best. Not that there's anything wrong with that...LOL.

@Dakota, with the exception of first wife Ivana, and strictly looking at the age difference only between Mr. Trump and wife no 2 and 3 respectively, probably yes. But what do you think? And I'm not suggesting at all that these babes aren't smart.

Quoting migliore:

Men sometimes go after trophy wives for the same reason women sometimes go after trophy husbands.  You know, as Angelina Jolie did when she went after Brad Pitt.  Capisci?

That marriage has lasted all too long, Migs. I'm beginning to wonder if it's not for real! LOLOL

TROPHY WIFE "The term's etymological origins are disputed. One claim is that trophy wife originally appeared in a 1950 issue of The Economist magazine[citation needed], referring to the historical practice of warriors capturing the most beautiful women during battle to bring home as wives. In 1971, the term appeared on page 115 of American Studies by University of Kansas, Midcontinent American Studies Association, Joyce and Elizabeth Hall Center for the Humanities (Published by University of Kansas., 1971) Item notes: v. 37-38; v. 45, nos. 1-3 original from the University of Michigan and digitized Sep 23, 2008 by Google. William Safire claimed that the term trophy wife was coined by Julie Connelly, a senior editor of Fortune magazine, in a cover story in the issue of Aug. 28, 1989[1] and immediately entered common usage.[citation needed] Many sources claim the term was coined earlier (for example, the Online Etymology Dictionary cites 1984[2]) but easy online access to William Safire's article about the term has led many (such as Oxford English Dictionary) to believe that August 28, 1989 was its first use.[3] A trophy wife is a woman that a financially successful man marries for the purpose of increasing his status. The main characteristics are that she be beautiful, desirable and an object of admiration. She is a status symbol (hence ‘trophy’) in much the same way as an expensive sports car, a pricey wristwatch or a luxury apartment. The marriage of former Playboy Playmate Anna Nicole Smith to oil billionaire J. Howard Marshall was widely followed by the US mass media as an extreme example of this concept.[4] At the time of their marriage, he was 89 years old and she was 26. Source, Wikipedia.

I would be honored if I would be regarded as a trophy wife. That would mean I am a wife that my husband would be proud of, and show me off. What's wrong with that? That would mean that I played my role as his wife well, and look good. which would also mean, I am in my own ways, successful as well.

I can't imagine an intelligent, successful man would consider a bimbo as a "trophy". There are just far too many women that are beautiful inside and out, I think bimbos should really worry about losing their markets.

CG's comments aside--which comments were very smart, BTW, sometimes that woman which looks like a trophy wife is, in fact a fine companion. Not all women who appear to be "Trophy Wives" are DUMB. Look at Michael Douglas & Katherine Zeta Jones, for example. [Or is that Katherine with a "C"? I don't recall] Sometimes--definitely not always--the seemingly trophy wife is one hell of smart "chick" who is finally the one who can get that old fogey to think and feel like a real man. Just saying.

OMG! Conyersguy well said, well said! But I do love your "fests" it made me laugh. You have delivered a careful, honest and balanced analysis of this matter don't you? Thank you so much for your comment - it certainly got me thinking about it from a different perspective.

I totally agree with you there, Sarah. I guess if they have all these qualities, and they are also intelligent they wouldn't really qualify as trophies, would they? I guess they'd be what I classify as "Brain & Beauty"? Perhaps I need to check out the broad definition of trophy wives, lol! WHAT/WHO IS A TROPHY WIFE?

I guess guys like to show off by having a pretty girl on their arm.

I would say the relationship would be boring if we assume the person does not have a good personality and/or is not intelligent. However, you do get pretty girls who have a nice personality and have intelligence.

If it was a relationship based purely on looks and there was nothing else there, its not likely to last long.

Sarah :-)
