Hello Everyone,

I wish each person on this site and all the other sites in the US a very Happy and Safe Fourth of July.

Went to a band concert last night in a very small Maine town.   The band numbered about 30 players and had a conductor that is almost blind.    He was wonderful to watch as a conductor.    His players were with him all the way.   He was excellent with his humor and witty sayings between songs.   (Small town America at it's best!)

They ended this concert with patriotic songs.    One was the 'Armed Forces March' which included all the branches of service.    The conductors wife gave all of us vets a good sized American flag.    When our service song was played, we were to stand up and wave our flag.    It was a great feeling in the hall with about 100 or so listening and many, many standing up.

They ended, of course, with 'The Stars and Stripes Forever March'!    It was a grand ending for a great night of playing.    The concert was 2 hours long with a 15 minute intermission.

It is moments like that which bring me back to reality and I realize what a wonderful world we are fortunate to live in.

God bless America and all of you,

John

PS     Thank you for getting this far.   It was a very moving experience  and I hope you got that thru my humble attempt to portray it to you!      J

I think that sounds great.  I think a lot of us truly forget why we are celebrating Independence Day to begin with.  It is not just a day off work and some fireworks.  I don't think we do enough to thank the Veterns of our country but while I am here responding to your blog I have to say THANK YOU for everything you have done for this country.

Happy 4th Attaboy & Bill!
AB: Sounds like you enjoyed a great event in celebration of patriotic independence......
My brother returned home safely from Afghanistan a few weeks ago, which was a great relief for my parents and me. His base was attacked a few days prior to his return, so I thank God that he made it back; regrettably others were not as lucky.

I'm not an advocate for war, but sometimes understand the necessity given the complexities of some of the terroristic hatred that threatens us and our allies.
When my brother and I finally got a chance to just sit back with each other and talk, I asked how he felt about his role over there. He said, "I'm proud of it because I was doing things that will make our country safer."  I have much respect for him and all of the service men and women who are risking their lives daily for a common purpose to protect everything that we hold sacred. So I honor them and their families this weekend and beyond.

On a side note: Last week my brother, his wife and a friend were in a car accident. Everyone is ok and my he is rehabbing his back. But my dad with his dry sense of humor was like, "you've been risking your life overseas for the passed several months, only to come home and get hurt in a car accident."  It could be worse...Sass

Thanks Bill!    Yes, he was there with us and he will have a very busy weekend popping around the country!

God bless,

John

It was a very good post, John. I enjoyed reading about it. I could almost hear the band belting out those patriotic tunes. A touch of Norman Rockwell...
