I have been a tax paying citizen of this country for the last 40 years. My services have been limited to those most people receive,,fire, police, water, sanitation, public schooling, and such. ..................................................................... People need basic health care such as vaccinations, screening for diseases, cancer testing, and basic humane treatment of chronic conditions such as high Blood pressure and diabetes. That is what I receive from the State of California and it is literally saving my life during this unfortunate time. ............................................................... I live an active clean life style, have never smoked, exercise everyday, eat sensibly and do not drink alcohol on a regular basis. I AM doing everything in MY power to lessen my particular health issues. ................................................................ Preventative health care costs far less than any other sort. I Do believe it IS in ALL of our collective interests to make sure everyone in this country has all their vaccinations and basic dental care. ALL the progress in communicable disease control gained for the last 50 years WILL be lost if vaccinations are NOT available. Measels and mumps and chicken pox , tuberculious and Polio are NOT gone from the Earth. They reappear whenever people do not get the shots. ............................................................... As for Tort Reform .what does IT have to DO with health care ? Fix one thing AT A TIME. and dont try to tie in all into each other. ................................................................ Nothing is ever going to be perfect. America is a GREAT and compassionate country. We HAVE the ability to provide those less fortunate with enough health care to keep them functioning members of society. Even if the under class only earn $ 8 an hour, they DO provide the rest of us with vital services and things that make our own lives a great deal more pleasant. Basic human compassion, you dont throw people away ! ............................................................. The # 1 cause of foreclosure in this entire country is Medical Crisis. That affects each and every single one of us in a trickle down. .................................................................... I for one, INCLUDE being healthy as PART of the Pursuit of Happiness. That comes from the Declaration on Independence, by the way, NOT the Constitution. ................................................................ One more thing,,i think it is TOTALLY ridiculous to have health care tied to one's job. That puts a HUGE burden on anyone trying to start a business, stifles economic growth. I AM a small business owner and I cant afford to hire anyone else even though I need to. ................................................................ If ALL this does is galvanize people to get the hell out and vote then I am ALL for it. MOST elections are very poorly attended. MOST people is this country DO NOT VOTE. I DO vote and always have. I took my daughter to register to vote the day she turned 18. I WANT to see everyone in this country get off their backside and make the effort and have their say. I have NO IDEA how any of this would have played out IF ALL THE citizens eligible to vote actually did. >>>>>........................................................... We can and should have civilized discussions and debates about the merits of the ISSUES. Emotionalism and rhetoric should be left out of it all.

I think that should be an easy answer Pat. The president who has done more in our life time is?

Quoting Curious2078

As you well know, my dear, I can't be sorry about voting for Obama because I did NOT vote for him.

And as you well know, too, I am most painfully fearful that Obama's "fundamental change" is going to happen.  And I am sick at heart that so many people do not seem to understand that the operative word is "fundamental."  And what that means is an abrogation of our brilliant Constitution and all it stands for.

Our Constitution--the democractic republic it stands for--is both as strong as stone and as fragile as ancient fossils.  It's ultimate strength lies in the hearts and minds and souls of the people who love and revere and honor it.  It's ultimate fragility lies in the hearts and minds and souls of the people who have liittle or no respect for it . Currently, we, the American people, are faced with being governed/represented in Congress by a majority of people who have it's ultimate fragility in their grasp while holding its ultimate strength in contemp, hidden away beneath their feet.  People who have the power to, in effect, tear it to shreds and toss it out in the trash along with yesterday's newspapers and shredded memos.

If that happens...if the Obamanation succeeds---God help us all.  And 10, 15 years from now when those who are now in favor of the Obamanation come to realize that they have become victims of their own wretchedly foolish, utterly naive hope for an impossible utopia, I'm afraid I will not be able to resist saying "I told you so."

Pat

Pat,

Of all the Presidents throughout history, whom have you most admired and in your opinion has best represented the Constitution for all Americans?

I welcome your perspective on this given our other e-mail exchanges on MM. I know you will answer this with great thought and eloquence :).

Shaz I'm not saying nothing should have been done because I think reform was definitely needed. Buth why didn't they go further and fix tort reform? But to mandate that people have it is not constitutional. And if you don't get it you're fined and if you continue not to get it you're thrown in jail? That's not the American I know and love.

Health care as a right? That we don't agree on. Life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness are rights granted by the Constitution.

WHERE IS MY comment Dekan ? I am the dissenter here and I am NOT sorry at all. MM has been loosing many posts and comments lately so i will assume that you did not remove it. Something has to be done to help people without health care. I believe that is should be a BASIC HUMAN RIGHT. Its very easy to be complacent until the person without insurance is YOU. I went from having one of the top insurance plans in the Nation to having no coverage at all. Eye opening experience. For the record,,poor people do NOT get free health care until they are very ill or in immediate danger of dire consequences. That IS the truth and I HAVE lived it. Ca has a program for chronic illness such as diabetes, hypertension , asthama and a few others that require ongoing care in order to stay alive. I am part of that. Without it, I would be dead for lack of simple medications and very basic care. All they cover is the bare minimum and we do have a small copayment. BUT its enough to save my life and I AM grateful it exists. I paid in to this system for 40 years.NOw that I NEED help, I am not the least bit ashamed or shy about making sure I get it. I can not believe that Americans would be so inhumane to let other people suffer and die from such common ailments when it is so easy to treat. Any of you ever had a severely infected tooth ? Can you recall the agony ? Now imagine you are 7 years old and have a mouth FULL of abcesses and infections and the constant horrid pain. Could YOU tell a child HIS LIFE is not worth saving ? I could not.

They will try John, but since Brown won in MA. the Senate is no longrer filibuster proof. It could be a lot worse. Of course it could be a lot better. LOL...

Most likely scenario would be the Republicans getting control of the House in Nov. and refusing to fund any of the programs most of which don't go into effect until 2013 or 2014 anyway. If Obama loses the 2012 election and the Rebublicans get control of the Senate they can repeal the whole thing before it does too much harm.

That is exactly what it's going to take boorah! I don't think the American people will be any less upset with what they did to us come November.

It's my understanding that the Supreme Court could step right? They are totally ignoring the will of the American people. They have to go!

That felt very forced. Palin didn't look like she wanted to be there. It was pay back that's all.

Sara Palin and John McCain are in Tucson today. That dynamic duo sure doesn't make me feel like running out to vote. I have never seen McCain have to campaign for his Senate seat before. He may get finished off in the Republican primary...

Quoting Curious2078

Bill, I sure hope you're right.

Pat

He bows to Saudi Kings, takes photo ops with Venezuela's Chavez and kowtows to the Iranians; all while telling the Israelis that they shouldn't build on their own land. Unemployment is rampant and taxes are about to go up. He is on TV more than Tiger Woods. I think a lot of people are getting very tired of him...

I sure as hell will not be afraid to tell someone "I TOLD YOU SO"! I have members of my own family were are very wealthy who voted for him and are going to get nailed! My sister and her hubby who live in South Carolina begged and pleaded and showed them things but they hated Bush more than they liked Obama. The people who voted for him will get what they deserve but we'll go down with them. I'm a Christian and I believe what the Bible says about the rapture...not called that in the Bible but you know what I mean. I won't be around for the worst of this. I am a pre-tribulation Christian. I have rededicated my life to the Lord and I am going to be surrounding myself with like minded people. And those people are more than politically like minded. We need to surround each other, encourage each other.
