Wow...I never expected to receive so many emails asking about this subject, so I have done some research on the subject and have combined that with what should be common sense and this is what I have come up with:

I see a pattern with the unethical practices of blogging here.  I acknowledge the fact that a blog on an online dating site is much more informal than perhaps one in the business world but, I think the same rules and ethics should apply.  In reality blogging is no different than engaging in conversation with people in real life and bloggers should be shown the same respect as you would show to a friend, co-worker, or a stranger.

Here are a few suggestions that should be followed when blogging regardless of where you are blogging:

  1. Post comments that are related to the blog.  If you have something else to say to the author of the blog, email it to them.
  2. If you don't like it, move on.  If you don¿t share a blogger's opinion, don't make it your mission to bash his/her blog with your vile personal attacks .  MOVE ON!
  3. Rude and childish behavior just because you¿re an anonymous commenter or are behind a pseudonym is unacceptable.  As much as good manners is required in the real world, it works the same in the blogsphere.
  4. If you're emotionally riled by a blogger, pause before you hit submit.  You might regret what you wrote.
  5. Bear in mind your reputation . Even if you¿re blogging or commenting under a pseudonym, there are possibilities that you will be found out one day. Blogs are not dispensable. Even after you¿ve long deleted that embarrassing photo of your prom night, someone might just be able to dig it up years later on the Wayback Machine, that big bad Internet archive in the sphere.

6.   There will always be differing opinions to yours. Remember to always respect other's views and opinions. If you want to share your own, do so in a mature debate. But bear in mind that you don't need to change that person's viewpoint.

If you have anything to add to this, please feel free to comment.

SAVE THE APOLOGIES AND DO IT RIGHT!

Happy Blogging to Everyone,

Britt

Quoting Conyersguy:

Sorry to be a little off your blog thread Brit, but I didn't want to waste a new blog on it, and it is "etiquette related."

.

A new post by Jon_________ is a perfect case in point of bad manners.  His blogs BEGS for a slamming retort, and I wondered why none was forthcoming.  Then I saw Irocas issue a very mild (for him):):) barb, and I commented on his post.  It seems "Jon" is deleting all posts that aren't his.  (Maybe he'd leave up a complimentary one, but I can't imagine there are any.)   An example of narcissism at it's best, and poor blog manners, in my opinion

I hear ya conyers.  This one is so "off the wall" and definitely rates right at the top as far as poor blog manners goes.  I'm working on this one, but in the meantime, the only advice I can give you and everyone else is to IGNORE his blog and don't try to comment on it.

Thanks for the comment.

Quoting Counselor:

Hi Courtney,

I do know who you are referring to as the obnoxious blogger and for whatever reason has not been removed, but I truly feel this blogger's main purpose is to rile members such as yourself and others.  The best revenge you could possibly get would be to: Not read his blogs at all and definitely do not comment on them.  So spare yourself the grief of being riled over such foolishness and move on to something more meaningful.  Everytime you or other members fire a comment back to this blogger, you are only accepting the bait he has put out there.

Solution to this problem is to just plain out IGNORE him.

Thanks for your comment.

There is an individual who blogs and annoys the C#$P out of everyone and, in this individual's mind, does so in a manner that apparently is not caught by those who monitor the site. I guess we can also refer back to Moldy's blog about keeping attention for less than 5 minutes, this time in reference to reading the posts... annoying, obnoxious, and outright crass and rude person! (not Moldy, the "other" person who shall remain nameless but we all know who I refer to!!!)

good blog Britt and although in the main what you say is right , its not allways as simpla as following what you say.  With some notable exceptions , that weve seen in the past of extreme behaviour, I have to say this. The blogs are a brilliant platform fo us all to have fun and discourse with ech other, and as you quite rightly say we will allways have differences of opinion. The thing is not to MIND. Hell in the past ive been slammed for something ive written, its all part of blogging and you cant be too sensitive about it. If you are brave enough to blog you have to take the risk that someone somewhere will object to what you say and says so. Wouldnt the blogs be boring if we all agreed with each other?

We have to be careful we dont beige each other to death here

Hello Brit Thank you for keeping this site up since it is one with interesting blogs. And yes, blogs do bring good and less good meanings to the front, the question is always how to deal with it. Although, I was wondering if creating a scammers list, visible to everyone wouldn't give a more secure feeling for allot of women and men here. It might avoid allot of disappointments, heartbreaks and a waste of time too. Warmest regards Annacath

Hi annacath,

Thanks for your comment.  I do have a blog on here called Scammers/trolls/pervs & gold diggers.  There you can view photos of people that the scammers are using.

I assume you're excluding lunatics, idiots, narcissists and the morally corrupt. If not, I won't be able to sign up. What about Liberals???? Puhlease!

Let's also add liars, traitors, propaganda writers, and other unsavory or unethical blogs to the list. I am sorry, if I see someone putting out this stuff I will expose them in such a way to discourage further posts. Unfortunately, my posts are usually quickly deleted. I insist on the facts and truth, no matter who is posting. There is a big difference between a lie, propaganda, and a honest difference of opinion. We have a good example or two of such bloggers on MM, and I am sorry that they are given a international platform to put out their lies and poison.

Yes, but they should be directed at particular individual(s) who try to hide their contemptuous behaviors about others behind long, boring, discourse using words otherwise implied to be "too big" to comprehend... or look up in a dictionary!!! The biggest abuser appears to never be addresses...

An excellent reminder [gentle admonition], Counselor.  Perhaps we should all be required to print out a copy and keep it taped above our monitors.  "'Blogging Etiquette.' Never Click Submit Without It."

Agreed, but there is nothing wrong with a little debate or pointing out to the person that they are being rude or crass. Maybe they don't realize it or are simply that way and brining it to their attention is quite appropriate in order to maintain an acceptable status on this, or any other site. MM has a reputation to uphold as well and having psychotic, rude, crass or otherwise trashy people on here should not be acceptable as well... Maybe MM should address those individuals on a one on one basis with a little "pep" talk as, again, there will always be a differing of opinions but outright lible and slander are degrading to all, not just the individual being attacked.

I'd like to copy and paste that to some women who let me have it about some political things I said that they disagreed with! Whew!
