Every year at Christmas I like to do something that gives back to the community where I live so that those less fortunate can enjoy the holidays too.  Though this year I did nothing that even comes close to last year (long story), this year we lit the courtyard where I live and had a small party.  The request was only that everyone bring a food donation, which they all did.  The place where I work is a drop off centre for the Food Bank donations that will hopefully fill an entire semi-trailer with food, so I was able to take it all there.  My friend who lives in my building and I have also volunteered to work at one of the local soup kitchens 1 or 2 times a month during 2010.

Is there anything special that you do at this time of year, or all year round that gives you that warm, fuzzy feeling inside?  How is your Christmas Spirit?

Great question and you beat me to it! I have been in the giving mood all season... I try to spread the "wealth" (and I don't mean financially necessarily) all year, but especially around the holidays. Ever since I was a child, my family and I have volunteered to feed the homeless and given toys to the children through different non-profits throughout town (don't know if I can name them here). In addition, I have my "favorite" homeless fellow in downtown who is so sweet and kind and obviously well educated at some point in his life<<>> he's so sweet and actually wants to have a sincere conversations (AND REMEMBERS THEM!!!!). With the horrifically cold weather we've had here this month I wanted to do something special for him this Christmas and went to the corner Starbucks and bought him a large peppermint hot coco... You would think I bought him a Rolls Royce!!! I would have thought that after all of the years of volunteerism it would have been no big thing but IT WAS... I don't know how, but I've had a smile on my face ever since and have wished soooooo many people I encounter a happy holiday... it just feels GOOD!!!!

Courtney :)

Quoting Arizona53:

Pat, my friend, you are without a doubt an inspiration to everyone who reads what you write, and you can count me as one who has many times been lifted by your words.  Your kind spirit and thoughtfulness are second to none!

Thank you for being my friend.....a better gift at Christmas I could not receive!

Deb

Got it, Lovebug.

And all should know that for whatever reason...who can explain it...no one...who could analyze it...I don't want anyone--or me--to bother....

You inspire me.... Just one of those magical connections.  And it wouldn't have happened if we both hadn'd been here on MM looking for something else other than what we've found in each other.....

I'm making this a public post for a reason!!!  For everyone who is on here looking for love, the love of your life....you may or may not find your soulmate here.  But if your HEART is open, and your MIND is open, there's a damn good chance you WILL run across a friend you need, even is you didn't know you needed that friend when you signed on.....

MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL...

Pat

I have wanted to chime in here...but I haven't chimed in here....because I do not volunteer anywhere...feel a bit guilty about that, but....because....

First let me say that all you very altruistic folks are to be blessed.  For sure.  Me...  I have no place to volunteer around me.  Well, not entirely true:  I could travel 40 miles to a place to volunteer, but if I do that, I will have to spend so much money for gas that I might very well run out of food money for myself...or I could travel to another place 60 miles away...you get the picture....

Let me begin this anew:   I'm a writer.  For better or worse, that means to my mind that the best I can do is write something...to someone...or to a bunch of somebodys...  My words are the most powerful, most meaingful things I FEEL I HAVE TO OFFER.  True or not [and please, no ciriticisms here...it is afterall, the Christmas season....generosity of spirit is the watchword....]

I have just written to a cyberspace friend the words that she has just acknowledged were the most powerful words to uplift her spirit that she has ever heard...

So...while I cannot get to a soup kitchen, or any other physical locale that gives most generously of the Christmas Spirit--I am gratified--and feel blessed--because my words to this cyperspace friend have meant a great deal to her.  And my words, folks, when spoken seriously--no satire, no jokes, no silliness--are always heartfelt and honest--and my online friend has taken them to be so....my words are then, to my mind, given a strong thumbs up by the Creator who made me a writer, a "dealer in words" in the first place.

That is the best I have to offer.... the best that I can give this Christmas season to any one.

I have in the last few months of blogging here and elsewhere run into so many hearts that are hurting--and my heart is NOT hurting--my heart is in such good shape I almost feel guilty for feeling as good as I do--

..............I can only say to all of you who are suffering misery...  Keep talking.  Keep asking for help and advice.  Your someone--lover or friend, most probably friend--out of all the people who are blogging on here, will hear you.  Someone--the someone you need most--will sooner or later connect with you.  Keep your heart open....you will hear from who you need to.   Just be very, very smart about NOT responding to people who would exploit/hurt you.  Take time to get know your correspondent.  Use all your instincts about who and what that person is.  And, above all, trust your instincts on that matter....

This takes a lot of work, folks.  A lot of time spent here on the blogs...but, if you don't lose heart---sooner or later....  The respondent will probably not be your "dream lover."  The respondent will be the friend you need instead....  And then you will be able to move on from their to your dream lover.....

Gotta have your heart wholEy in tact before you can find your romantic match....Go for the friend...Male or female.  Go for one who speaks to your heart--not your loins....  Go for the heart.....

Enuf said.....A Merry Christmas to All--and a Happy New Year to everyone...

Love to all....

Pat

Great..Its so great.... ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh ... make that them smile !!! .... give them a little space where they feel happy for a moment even when their world is not lucky. For this mission it works .. food .. a gift ... .. a toy .... or sharing a shelter for a while listening to their dreams ... Here we collect gifts for children of the slums, sharing with them a dinner, laugh, cry .. and then .. continue ....

Actually this has been a good year for me in many respects. Even those these past few days have been rough, most of the year has been good.  I do not have children and my cats do not care if I put up a Christmas Tree...they are happier with a little catnip. I also do not celebrate Christmas as I am not a Christian anymore. Does that mean I need to get off your blog?  I feel that the holiday season is the time for all peope to put aside their dogmas and realize that many organized religions celebrate this time of the season for thier religious reasons.  Other people are not a part of an organized relgion yet they the spirit of the season in the way that they do. What are we all celebrating?  Peace on earth. Good will to all mankind.  Regardless of faith or skin color.  That is the true spirt of the holiday season.

May you and your daughter enjoy the celebration of your Christmas Holiday.

Hey Queen, you need only move on if you are offended by the use of Christmas as a term....LOL!  I am more spiritual now than Christian, but, I will always celebrate Christmas.
