I'm not sure where I got this, maybe even from here. (if its been posted before sorry for the dupicate) but I think it should be posted again. I think it hits right to the point at least for me, what I want and need in my life.

"The Invitation" by Oriah Mountain Dreamer, Indian Elder.

It doesn't interest me what you do for a living. I want to know what you ache for, and if you dare to dream of meeting your hearts longing.

It doesn't interest me how old you are. I want to know if you will risk looking like a fool for love, for your dreams, for the adventure of being alive.

It doesn't interest me what planets are squaring your moon. I want to know if you have touched the center of your own sorrow, if you have been opened by life's betrayals, or have become shriveled and closed from fear of further pain.

I want to know if you can sit with pain, mine or your own, without moving to hide it or fade it or fix it. I want to know if you can be with joy, mine or your own; if you can dance with wildness and let the ecstasy fill you to the tips of your fingers and toes without cautioning us to be careful, be realistic, or to remember the limitations of being human.

It doesn't interest me if the story you are telling me is true, I want to know if you can disappoint another to be true to yourself. if you can bear the accusation of betrayal and not betray your own soul.

I want to know if you can be faithful and therefore trustworthy. I want to know if you can see beauty, even when it is not pretty every day, and if you can source your life from its presence.

I want to know if you can live with failure, yours or mine, and still stand on the edge of a lake and shout to the silver of the full moon, "Yes!"

It doesn't interest me to know where you live or how much money you have. I want to know if you can get up after the night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children.

It doesn't interest me who you are, or how you came to be here- I want to know if you will stand in the center of the fire with me and not shrink back.

It doesn't interest me where or what or with whom you have studied I want to know what sustains you from the inside when all else falls away. I want to know if you can be alone with yourself, and if you truly like the company you keep in the empty moments.

Tell me what you think of this Poem !

Totally!! Beauty is within,it's not the money you make, the house you live in,the car you drive the face or body you have, the clothes you wear or the charms on your neck, finger or wrist that make the person it is the soul within..I also write poetry..mostly of Love ,some heartache, and children.. I have just begun visting the internet world of finding relationships and what a treat to find your blog and read a familiar poem. It made this journey not quite so scary to see something familiar, warm and kind. Thank you.

This poem has always touched my heart and soul in so many ways. It's  what living and loving life to its fullest  is all about  .It's "real"life!!!People come and go in our lives but genuine people will be there through all our journeys.                                                                                                                      I want to know if you can get up after a night of grief and despair, weary and bruised to the bone, and do what needs to be done for the children  ..Well... The picture says it all.....

Thanks for sharing.  That is a great poem that holds many truths...

Hey, Twist-tie...  Did ya slip a little 'sumpin' sumpin' ' into your morning beer, buddy?

Go sit in the corner, mull that one over, okay? Maybe daddy will give you a little 'tickle' later today...

anna, you must be a very special woman if your willing to put yourself out there like that.

some of us need to take more than 2 minutes to look inside !  LOL

I've never heard of this or read it, but it is truly beautiful. This describes real, deep love/committment. I felt that way about my late husband and I hope to find it again someday. It's the most remarkable kind of love because there are no longer thoughts of "me" or "my" but "we" and "us". You think of yourselves as one person. Love like this is a huge blessing from God. I wish everyone could experience it.

dj,,, thanks for your comment. In my opinion its basically what we are all looking for in our life,, some may disagree,, but I don't ! ;)

Yes, you are very blessed to have had that type of love once and I feel since you had it once your the type of woman who will recognise it again ! I wish you the best of luck in your journey.
