Isn't the point of the Democrats' push to reform the health care system based on establishing health care as a right? That's what the politicians say of course. But in reality the result will be the exact opposite. Part of the problem is that most Americans don't understand what a right is. A right is not a guarantee that the government (i.e., other people) will provide you something for free. We have the right to engage in religious expression, but that doesn't mean that the government pays for the construction of the church. We have the right to peacefully assemble, but the government doesn't promise to supply your transportation. You have the right to keep and bear arms, but don't expect the government to provide you with a free firearm and bullets. You have the right to free speech, but the government won't grant you free radio or TV air time. What makes something a right is not whether the government can force somebody else to pay for it. What defines something as a right is whether the government can or cannot prohibit you from doing it. (President Obama notoriously called these "negative liberties".) If the government can't stop you from doing it, then it's a right. We have a right to religious expression because the government is prohibited from suppressing that expression. We have the right to assemble because the government must allow us to do so. We can speak freely because the government cannot censor us. Nor can the government take away law-abiding citizens' firearms. The House of Representatives' health care bill would give the federal government control over what kind of health care you will have access to. Private alternatives to the government plan will become economically unviable, leaving the government plan as a de facto monopoly. Because the Democrats are promising universal health care, demand for health care will skyrocket. Because they also promise to control costs, doctors will leave the system and seek more profitable lines of work elsewhere. The result of increased demand and decreased supply means one thing: rationing. In order to distribute scarcer and scarcer health care resources to larger numbers of patients, the government will have to determine who to treat and who to turn away. By adopting any such rationing scheme, the government is implicitly assuming the power to prohibit people from receiving health care. Some people will have to wait and suffer for months to be treated. Others, based on what the government determines according to cost and other factors such as how old you are, will be denied certain medical procedures out right. This prohibition -- whether temporary or permanent -- is a de-facto infringement on the individual right to health care. Some may argue that current private insurance plans ration access to health care as well. Yet this is nothing more than justifying bad behavior by pointing out other bad behavior. The American health care system certainly needs to be reformed. This isn't the way to do it.

Women have been having "spit" parties for a few years now. I think it's about $300. You spit into a test tube, send it away and they identify about 600 genetic markers is your DNA. I'm not aware af any magic injection, however, Resveratrol has shown a great deal of promise and Glaxo recently purchased the company that developed it.

I put my trust in the genetic technology that's coming. Already, companies are selling kits to test your genetic makeup,to warn you of what 's in store for your health. Unhealthy lifestyles? Before long, not much more than a shot will rejuvenate your ailing internal systems, wether it's a failing organ or your immune system. Trick for us now, is figuring out just which of those research startups is the next microsoft: a goldmine like HGSI, their stock went from 3.00 a share to currently <20.00 since JULY. Anyone have any tips? And all we ned to insure that the cost of those shots is affordable for all is the guarantee of competition.

i did not vote for the idiot and sure hope his p[lans all fail, specially the health care plan as if you are over the age of 50, are overweight according to an outdated chart, or have something wrong with you, even as little as an old work related injury, according to obama and his czars, you dont deserve to live, and they will tell you that you got to have lab work done which, in reality, you will be given a lethal injection. basically, if you aint considered one of the "beautiful people" you need to be destroyed. so, i hope the vote in september fails big time.

I agree with what you say. And I know what wellness is cause I have "wellness checkups". Thing is people are not going to have a choice. We are being told what we can eat and drink and taxed. He wants control and what better way than taking over health care. Have you read any of the bill unlike John Conyers who said "why read a 1000 page bill when you'd need 2 days and 2 lawyers to understand what it says". I'm trying and he's right you can barely understand it! They need to make it shorter and what's Obama's word "more transparent". Thanks for your comment!!! Stay tuned!

There are twe ways that we can reduce the cost of health care:

1. Be Healthy

2. Spend Less

There is universal agrrement that each of us need to become healthier to help reduce health spending. This is called wellness, and I urge you to take the time to learn about it. It is a key element in solving the high cost of Health care. The larger problem is that few people understand the reasons we pay so much for health care. I believe that if we make more informed choices about paying for health care, we will also make healthier lifestyle choices.

Obama's Health care plan in a nutshell... The phone rings and the lady of the house answers, "Hello." "Mrs. Ward, please." "Speaking" "Mrs. Ward, this is Doctor Jones at the Medical Testing Laboratory. When your doctor sent your husband's biopsy to the lab yesterday, a biopsy from another Mr. Ward arrived as well, and we are now uncertain which one is your husband's. Frankly the results are either bad or terrible." "What do you mean?" Mrs. Ward asks nervously. "Well, one of the specimens tested positive for Alzheimer's and the other one tested positive for AIDS. We can't tell which your husband's is." "That's dreadful! Can't you do the test again?" questioned Mrs. Ward. "Normally we can, but Obama Healthcare will only pay for these expensive tests one time." "Well, what am I supposed to do now?" "Obama's people recommend that you drop your husband off somewhere in the middle of town. If he finds his way home, don't sleep with him.?

is it right for a doctor to walk in a room of a patient be ask a question answer it then walk out and charge $1000.00 for the answer well this happened to my mother on a fixed income how many of these doctor's do this and get away with it. my mother got the bill from this doctor and called the hospital asked why this doctor was even in the room. sorry to say when the bills really started coming in after my dad's pasting. my mother called the hospital wondering who are all these doctor's there was only one that was taking care of my dad and before you knew it the bill's totaled over 15000.00 (after insurance) after my dad's pasting and my mother calling the hospital they wiped out the debt well here's something to think about smart people if they wiped out the debt do you think my dad would be alive today if they did not do something wrong or would my mother be paying this debt

Some excellent thoughts Starjockey. Thanks for responding! Anyone with the ability to think knows why they want to ram this health care through. The longer its out there the more the American people are going to do their own investigation and find out for themselves what that rotten bill contains. I think it was Rush when he was being interviewed by Greta said that Rahm "Rambo" Emmanuel didn't want representatives going home having townhall meetings with constituants giving them the opportunity to bitch and moan about the health care bill. If things continue at the pace they are Republicans will take back one of the houses next year.

I think people are slowly waking up to Obama's insatible lust for power. Both he and his "cronies" are trying to ram things down the throat of the American public that we don't need and don't want. I think this should be a one term president....unless we can impeach him sooner. BTW, where is his birth certificate?

The government wants us to believe that this healthcare plan will be so much better for us than what we have now. Well, I work in the healthcare industry and I can tell you first hand that you'll have trouble finding a doctor in the next few years if this plan goes through. What is the insentive to become a doctor and make next to nothing after years and years in Medical school, and thousands of dollars in debt for your education. As things are now, there won't be enough doctors to cover all the population that will be entitled to healthcare. But that's only the tip of the iceberg. Socialized medicine has NEVER worked. It bankrupted England, Canada's system is crowed with people who can't find a local doctor in certain specialities or wait weeks for an MRI. The cost will be astronomical, especially if Obama has his way and we end up covering illegals. I know people will say., "Oh, I don't mind paying additional taxes", but they will when those additional taxes mean they can not afford to go out for dinner, buy new furniture, or clothes or much of anything else. I sincerely hope Obama's plan falls flat on it's face. I don't want my privacy invaded by electronical records that go to God knows who. I don't think the government should be looking at my personal health record. But brace yourself, because that's what's about to happen. Universal health is a dream, not a reality. So, when do you think Obama and Congress are going to wake up?

Thank you for your thoughts! You are definitely in the thick of things! I heard today that a doctor who has been a member of the AMA quit after 30 in the organization. That's a damn shame. A big problem with what Obama, Pelosi and Reid is that they want to cover 12 million illegals! What the hell is wrong with them?? Oh that's right they're bleeding heart freaking liberals! They do not take into consideration young people who are healthy and don't want insurance. I saw an interview with the Governor of Hawaii and they tried the socialize health care. After 7 months they stopped it. She said they could cover up to 3500 children. The problem came in when parents who had their children on their private medical plan took them off and opted for the free health care. People NOTHING IS FREE WITH THIS PRESIDENT! He wants the American people under his thumb. He wants to control every aspect of our life! Look at the wacked out czars he's appointing! Good God almight! Cass Sunstein the Regulatory Czar said that animals can sue people! The Science Czar John Holdren once advocated putting sterilants in water and forced abortions. Big families are obsolete. And his Green Czar Van Jones is an admitted Communist. Are you Obama kool-aid drinkers sorry you voted for him yet?

I absolutely agree with you about the need to reform. ¿I am a physician and I pay out BIG time for medical, dental and vision because of the extra charges tacked on for people who have careers and "sound" coverage. ¿If I see one more medicaid patient or on SSI calling and harassing me in my office, saying they want to be seen right away, need their free medicine and metro card...I'm telling you. ¿It's so easy to get medicaid, all you have to do is refuse to work and these are the people who are quick to sue doctors. ¿I understand your concern about the impacts of rationing health care but I think we need to reconsider how we are giving out free care and medicine to people who are not deserving, people who have the capacity to function in society and work. An idea would be to develop more strict and specific policies to evaluate patients in very low income groups who claim disability.

¿

Thanks for sharing your thoughts
