This is from an article in the St.. Petersburg Times Newspaper on Sunday.

The Business Section asked readers for ideas on "How Would You Fix the Economy?"

I think this guy nailed it!

Dear Mr. President:

Please find below my suggestion for fixing
America's economy.

Instead of giving billions of dollars to companies that will squander

the money on lavish parties and unearned bonuses, use the following plan.

You can call it the Patriotic Retirement Plan:

There are about 40 million people over 50 in the work force.

Pay them $1 million apiece severance for early retirement with the

following stipulations:

1) They MUST retire. Forty million job openings - Unemployment fixed.

2) They MUST buy a new American CAR. Forty million cars ordered - Auto

Industry fixed.

3) They MUST either buy a house or pay off their mortgage - Housing

Crisis fixed.

It can't get any easier than that!

If more money is needed, have all members of Congress and their

constituents pay their taxes...

If you think this would work, please forward to everyone you know.

If not, please disregard.

Shoes? Did someone mention shoes? Heck, I am barefoot right now. Oh, wait. This is about the politics. I have the feeling, more and more, that it really does not matter what I think. Someone else will decide for me what they think is best. Of course, I am lucky to be here in the USA instead of in some of the other countries...what they are doing for the good of their people, is very scary indeed.

Yes, if it doesn't kill those of us who take pride in what we do. I am amazed that our country has stopped utilizing ingenuity and common sense, and invests more time in watching American Idol than local elections. What ever happened to spirited debate on current events at the dinner table (well, it goes much better with cordials) reading, etc...incurring more national debt is precarious, and will result in the parceling off of America. Zoning restrictions will be loosened. Tough mooring, indeed.

Hey Deb, Good luck with your new car. Which model did you get? Post some pictures here so we can drool. I had a couple of British cars.. an Austin-Healey 3000 MkIII and a Daimler Jaguar. Unfortunately they still were using Lucas electronics which bred the joke .. Why do Brits drink warm beer? ... because the own Lucas refrigerators.

There are about 110 million households in the US. So, that's a mere $11 trillion. Reminds me of when the residents of one of our Southern states sued the state government because they were upset that the public school system ranked 49th out of 50. I guess they must have been educated within the system. The actually filed a law suit basically suing themselves.

Let's take is down to $100,000 per legal household and put a few of those stipulations on that you listed...pay down a mortgage....buy a new AMERICAN car...in general decrease debt per household or make a¿ major purchase and spur the economy.¿ I'm in favor of SHOES!¿ I can live with Channel or Stuart Weitzman neither made in the US but still reasonable.

Now Now Tink & SS---you are already breaking the rules.¿ We are only trying to revive the job market, housing market and help the US automakers out-----no mention of SHOES, but if you have any money left over, perhaps a fine pair of shoes would be in order.

Sorry Tink, but this stimulus package is only for the Americans -- you'll have to come up with your own plan.¿ Perhaps you will find an American male over the age of 50, who would enjoy sharing his million dollar severance pay, new house and car with you---GOOD LUCK GIRL!!¿ I'm sure he is here waiting for you!!!!!!!!

¿

Hey Tink... Not fair. This is a plan to bolster the US economy. No Manolos and no Jimmy Choos, has to be American... maybe Twinkle Toe Shoes. You can get any car from Chrysler, GM or Ford. Chrysler is rumored to be in merger talks with Fiat... can you say crappy cars in two languages. On a lighter note.. tune into the Kentucky Derby this weekend. If you're not familiar with it, women dress up in funny hats, parade around and get drunk. Oh, wait... I think there is a horse race too. The winner gets to eat those funny hats.

I like the nice car, home and shoes idea the most. It would make me feel good for awhile anyhow. :)

It's the Law of Large Numbers. $40 trillion!!! That's... $40,000,000,000,000. The modern day version of a "chicken in every pot". What do you think the chickens thought about that idea? It's Robin Hood revisited and the "sheriff" just switched parties. Just the other day the White House decided it needed a photo of Air Force One, with the Statue of Liberty in the background, for it's website. The solution... scramble AF 1 and a couple of F16s and buzz NYC, causing folks in NY and NJ to run, scurry and flee the scene. The cost .. $300,000+. If it were your money don't you think your first thought would have been.... PHOTOSHOP!!!!!!

Big Ooooops! Obviously math wasn't (and still isn't) MY favorite subject! After re-evaluating this suggestion I realize the writer was being facetious! However, raffling off a FEW million dollars to a few people each, (with all the same requiremenst mentioned in the original email) would still probably be more beneficial to this country's economy then the current plans. :-)

Thanx 4 this, Brittany! I'm a newcomer who just discovered this site yesterday. I thought this might likely be another "run of the mill DATING site", but I'm so glad I'm pleasantly surprised to see this is really different-with members like yourself sharing on significant issues! And I too, really like this gentleman's plan!
