I know this is not a political site, but when I see something I that I think is beneficial like to share it. This is a dating site for wealthy men and women and because of that, I'd think what is going on with the economy would be affecting you. I urge each of you to go to U-Tube and watch the video "We The People Stimulus Package". The orator is a gentleman dressed in period clothing of Thomas Paine. I'm sure I'll get some grief from some but that's okay, we all have opinions and freedom of speech and that makes life interesting!

Did yall miss me? *LOL* I don't know that my voice was silenced but President Bush got the bailouts and socialism rolling. I have a problem with this torture thing. Did you have a problem with the terrorists when they cut off Daniel Pearlman's head? Or burned and dismembered the bodies of our, as in, American soldiers? If we have to waterboard someone to save lives you damn well better believe I agree with it. They only feel like they're going to drown. If you're not doing anything illegal why should you care if your phone calls are listened to???? That kind of stuff just doesn't bother me. If they want to hear me have phone sex so be it...maybe they'll get off too! *L* Just kidding! Honey thank you for the compliment! You said I can't be more than 40. At least I thought you were referring to me...global warming is BS! The king of global warming is Algore and the man didn't believe what he preaches! Some spies drove by his house on Saturday night and even though people were to turn their lights off for an hour 8:30 - 9:30 his were shining all over the place! I turned on every light in my house! TV's heaters, washers, dryers! I'm sure I had to cancel out someone! *L* We'll never agree so I'm not going to keep commenting on everything you wrote. So how bout that Ipod Obama gave the Queen! They need to fire the person that is supposed to be in charge of protocol! *LOLOL*

While I¿d like Rush, Bill-o and Manatee Hannity to shut up, it¿s not because I want to silence them or anyone else who has a conservative point of view; for example, I read David Brooks regularly although my guess is that you don¿t read Paul Krugman. I simply wish they¿d either tell the truth ¿ something with which none of them are intimately familiar ¿ or be quiet.

¿

As for your idea that the best stimulus is the government giving everyone their money to spend as they wish, that¿s fine but¿please answer¿a few questions first:

¿

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How many ageing bridges, dams, levees and highways do you and others plan to repair or replace with the money you say you should be given?

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How wide a network of high-speed trains do you intend to build so cars can be removed from the highways you¿ll apparently build?

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How many wind farms and solar panels will you construct?

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How much scientific and medical research do you plan to fund?

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How many students will you give loans and grants to so they can attend post-secondary schools?

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How many distressed home owners do you plan to help avoid foreclosure?

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How many nurses, teachers, fire fighters and police officers are you planning to pay?

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How much will you spend on systems that will reduce waste, duplication and expense in hospitals?

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How much will you contribute to updating the overloaded and worn out 1960-era air traffic control system?

¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿¿ How much will you be spending to ensure safe products and food, medicines that do not harm patients, mines get inspected properly so workers are not injured or killed, fraud artists and tricksters thinking only of themselves are kept out of Wall Street offices?

¿

The major reason none of these things have been done over the last 30+ years is because the so-called conservative movement in the country has broken the social contract between the government and citizens, allowing instead ¿what¿s mine is mine and you can fend for yourself¿ attitude to permeate America.

Yes you are right about shutting up Rush and Beck and company. This administration wants no opposition. They want minded numb robots! And I do agree in part that President Bush got the ball rolling with out of control spending and socialism. I do not understand the logic of spending and spending and spending! Let the government give the American people money and we'll get ourselves out of this recession! That makes to much sense and then they'd not have control of everything and that is the ultimate goal.

Newman, I'd like to make a historical correction to your post.

The Reagan years was when the income and wealth gap between the rich, and the middle class¿and poor began, and the middle class started to get squeezed out of existence.

Although Jimmy Carter may be our best former president ever, his presidency was not successful but in no small part because of the massive inflation triggered by Nixon's price controls coupled with the 1973 energy crisis and the emergence of OPEC as an economic and political force. Unlike Pres. Obama, Carter did not understand how to shove a stick in the spokes and stop the wheel from turning.

In addition to¿triggering a massive transfer of wealth from the middle class to the wealthy and obscenely rich through targeted tax cuts, Reagan was responsible for Iran-Contra, overthrowing at least three duly elected governments that did not happen to agree with US policy,¿stripping education and college tuition grant funding, freezing Social Security and Medicare benefits that harmed millions of the elderly and disabled, starting the School of the Americas which taught thousands of Latin American dictators how to use their Army to torture and kill political dissidents, and enacting¿insane drug laws that sent thousands of people to prison for holding a small quantity of marajuana.

This is the greatest president of your lifetime? You cannot be much older than about 40. If so, I feel sorry for you in a way because Reagan, Bush, Clinton and Bush the Younger were poor excuses for presidents.
As for Obama and Bush having the same economic policies, Obama is funding green energy projects (Bush declared climate change a myth), infrastructure rehabilitation (Bush underfunded things such as levee reconstruction and we saw how well that worked in New Orleans), education (No Child Left Behind was really All The Money Is Left Behind) and stifled funding innovation in science and medicine if the evangelical right was offended. Hardly the same.

You say that you are afraid that the Obama administration wants to silence our voices. Excuse me but did you live through the Bush-Cheney years or were you on an expedition in some remote land between 2001 and 2009?

¿

In Bush's name, which means in the name of the American people, Cheney and David Addington had John Yoo - who is on his way to being disbarred at the very least - write so-called legal opinions that said the¿president could halt free speech¿despite the 1st Amendment, could send the Army into anyone's home to both search the premises and haul anyone off to a brig without a warrant (a requirement of common law government since the Magna Charta was signed and the Constitution), hold people indefinitely without a trial (another violation of the Constitution), use torture (in violation of numerous US laws, the Geneva Convention, of which the United States was the prime drafterand the principles established in the Nurenburg trials), wiretap telephones and read e-mails indiscriminately, break into people's homes to rifle through their belongings¿and conduct illegal wars.

¿

Ever since the FDIC was founded in the 1930s, the government has had the power to take over failing banks. Since non-bank financial institutions now constitute more than 60% of the savings and lending in the country, does it not make sense to give the FDIC (or some other agency) the authority to do the same thing? After all, it was AIG's financial products division that was largely responsible for the current financial collapse. It happened because the Republicans - beginning with Ronald Reagan - de-regulated everything and Bush systematically stripped the SEC of the resources it needs to police Wall St.

¿

Meanwhile, the Heritage Foundation and the American Enterprise Institute were prime cheerleaders for¿all of this. The fact is, it took 30 years capped by the Bush-Cheney abuses for the country to wake up, shake the cobwebs out of its head, and move left again. No matter how much Rush, Hannity and Bill-O rant and rave, their time has come and gone. For which I am ever greatful.

I wanted to include in my other message that I am "new" to this site with blogging but not new to "Blog Land". I am in numerous other sites. I know we all differ in our beliefs and principles and values but I love the debate and seeing others points of view. I know that I've pissed some women off in here with some things that I've said. But that's okay! They have the right to their passionate beliefs and convictions. With his new administration I truly am scared that we are going down the road to where our voices will be silenced. Thanks for writing.

I have Casey, Holden and Spector. And AIG leaders name is Liddy. Where you and I differ, well one of the things is that I do not believe the president nor Congress have the American people best interest at heart. They are are about power and control.

You knew I'd write back. *L* President Reagan, in my opinion, has been the greatest President of my life time. Have you read how he feels about the Constitution? I suggest you go to the Heritage Foundation. He loved the Constitution. It would be the people in power now that want to take that great document apart! Geithner wants to seize private businesses! And being the lame brain that he is could not even give details! They want to seize non-bank financial institutions! We are getting ever so close to full blown socialism. We The People need to let Washington know we are not going to allow this happen. Because of my religious beliefs all of this has to happen. Nothing that goes on in this country surprises me any more. Thank you for commenting. I hope your day is going well.

Tallin¿and others might want to remember that¿Pres. Obama¿was elected¿by the widest majority in something like 40 years with the largest voter turnout in decades.

¿

Complacent? I don't think so. Not any more.

¿

But I believe that the complacency of too many Americans - and I am¿an American¿who happens to live in Toronto - enabled the previous administration to shred the Constitution, destroy the middle class, violate solemn treaty obligations and, in the process, turn the United States into both a traitor to its own values and a deserved¿object of hate in much of the world.

¿

Despite the reverence in which he is held by most on the right, the problems we now face - economically, politically, socially - can all be traced back to Ronald Reagan and his falacious mantra that the only good government is no government. Had his zeal and that of the GOP, not led to deregulating everything, the¿voiding of Glass-Segal (which led to banks becoming high rollers at the casino and the proliferation of financial instruments so complex no one undertsands them which makes them easy to use to commit fraud), the stripping of consumer protections, and two wars, one illegal and one mis-managed, we would not be in the crisis we are in today.

¿

When two Republican governors - Crist and Schwartzenegger - who alone represent 10% of the US population stand behind the stimulus package and what Pres. Obama wants to do in his budget, then it strikes me that the rest of the Republican Party is not only out of touch with the country but out of touch with the times.

¿

By the way, has anyone else noticed¿how much House minority whip Eric Canton resembles that annoying, whining kid from grade school who was always getting¿tipped upside down and his head flushed in a urinal?

Thank you for taking time to watch the video. We have two main parties. We have a couple others such as the Libertarian and Green party but they seem not to get much attention. Although with the economy being what it is more people are starting to agree with Ron Paul who is a Libertarian.
