Im in a deeply reflective mood today. I have been thinking about the phenomenon of the internet and of sites like these. However i do think this site is unique. Would I class this as a dating site? hmmm no not really. Until I joined here I had no idea about this kind of thing and it has been more than a revelation to me. I have met many , loved some, dismissed others, have been trashed in the most brutal and unpleasant way, have actively disliked those who trod on my toes and have been reduced to tears by stories of pain and suffering All human life is here and if you care to look. I would like to quote some of the immortal lines in the film The War of the Worlds narrated by the inimitable Richard Burton 'across the millions of miles of space there are those who regarded this earth with envious eyes and studied us as a scientist studies bacteria as they swarm and multiply in a drop of water under a microscope ' And in a way bloggers it kind of applies to me here. I feel i have been that alien. That person who has lived all her life in a very cosseted world, secure in my own reality, comforted by all that was true in my own world, until I came on here, and what i have found has affected me in the most profound way. Its almost like a kind of fascination watching the human interaction dynamic working I realise that I have found that there is a world a surreal world, way outside of my comfort zone. All human life is here. Some good , some bad, and some ugly I have experienced it all. Joy, laughter, sadness , pain, friendship, envy, love , hate, jealousy its all here and it seems not only is it here it has exclamation marks behind it. I have wondered what makes our emotions and traits on here so much more exaggerated than in real life and this is what i think. Maybe its exaggerated because we are protected by a kind of annonymity. We all have a username and with that we have created a kind of alter ego of our choosing which may or may not reflect who we really are, which at times can get out of control.I for one have played with a cougar personality which is not strictly the truth but it made for fun writing. Its easy to share whatever you have to say good or bad when you are not looking into anothers eyes. If we see no reaction then its easy to do what we want isnt it? Do you not find that the written word is much more powerful than the spoken> Do you not think that the writings of Petrarch would have been so potent if he had just called his longtime love on the phone and said hey babe luv ya? Rather than writing of his unrequited love over the course of 20 years, in writing so powerful and poignant it held the reader spellbound. The written word is potent indeed, and should be used with careful consideration at all times. I feel we have yet to learn that on here. This internet experience and in particular blogging is not for the faint hearted for sure, and i have seen many fall by the wayside unable to cope. Its been one hell of a ride, but its a short lived thrill and I wonder what we as individuals will take away with us from this most unusual of experience. It would be interesting to see if any of you agree with me and share your thoughts. Will this have been a positive or negative experience?

WHAT !! You are not a cougar?? Come on, we know better. I bet you even took pictures of that innocent young man and they are on the internet somewhere and you are collecting royalties. Next you are going to tell us you padded the back of your dress. I may just shoot myself then. I was going to ask to marry your ugh, ugh, ..... dress. Lololol.

WOW Tinker, This is also something that I have thought about from time to time remembering the time Befor any of us even knew what the Internet was. I definitely agree with the idea that because we are able to have anonymity some of us may feel as though we can create an image that may or may not be real. The part that scares me more though is the feeling that I sometimes get to be completely free and uninhibited in my thoughts knowing I don't have to say these things to anyone "in person" I wonder if its a good thing. The feeling of not having to look the other person in the face to see a humane reaction....does this to a certain degree desensitize us to the affects of our behavior toward others? i do wonder.

as one who is now departing i will say this...you are correct on many levels. I am the same in real life as I am on here,,with the exception of being less sharp edged. mental exchanges are always more intense. Writing clarifies the mind . I wasnt all that happy to discover certain things about myself. I am capable of intensely disliking others. Most of all, I dont like to see other people taken advantage of or when innocent people get hurt.I had not realized I had such a protective streak in me. But I do. blogland is an amalgamation of human kind and we do have all sorts here. Some of which I de like to see eliminated...and some who got away with FAR too much disgusting behavior. Some fights were worth the outcome and there are a few here who should be damned happy their conflinct was with others and not me. I would never be so forgiving,,until the wrong had been corrected and the correct level of revenge extracted. Another astounding thing I learned is how gullible people can be,,how they dont want to see the less than wonderful side of things and blithely stumble into trouble. love doesnt " conquer all" and thats a hard lesson for anyone. Be kind to those worthy of it,,and erase those who are not from your lives. Life is far too short to waste it on the emotionally draining and morally bankrupt.

Hi Tink, I agree with much of what you say, I think that experiences for men on MM maybe different than for woman. Ive been on here for nearly five yrs, the last 18 months as a bystander and onlooker. Ive meet many and emailed hundreds, and under my 5 guises LOL been contacted by over 1000, most of whom were ships in the night, but ive retained a core of friends of both sexes on MM who still keep in contact and will remain friends , hopefully for ever. I to have met all types, but i must say ive had a great time. No one ever trod on my toes, i wear toetectors LOL. I have found the experience enriching, and a few yrs back time on here devoured all my spare time. I think this site is really what you want to make of it. If one gets deeply into blogging im not sure it is a dating site, but if one spends energy looking for potential mates then there are many, BUT as always, the ones you fall in love with are the ones thousands of miles away. Ive been on other well known sites, but they dont have a 'blog like MM's is this good or bad, Well you pays your money and takes your pick, and make the most of what comes your way. Take care Tink Rob
