To those of you who have voiced your concerns over my free membership, for reporting abusive profiles to MM, I just want to take this opportunity to let you know that I will no longer accept a freebie from MM. That was never the reason behind the reporting that I do. I have experienced first hand the emotional and financial devastation that the scammers can cause to their victims, therefore; I will continue to report to MM, but will no longer accept their generosity of a free membership. Hopefully this will put to rest the issue of me receiving preferential treatment. I encourage every member here to use good judgment when meeting people online---if they sound too good to be true, they probably are. Good luck to each and everyone of you in finding that RIGHT person and please stay safe. Best wishes to you all, Britt

Quoting Alchem_US_t: Brit, I Like you, laud your efforts and have never had any bones to pick with you regarding you, your profile or what you say and do. I've felt that, the few times we have 'passed while walking down Mainstreet, Blogland', you were a welcome citizen. I still do. Just wanted you to know that my comments regarding the 'McCarthy Tactics" employed by you and Ready (who I also have the utmost respect and admiration for, and have never felt anything but good vibes from) to root out evil-doers is going over the line. For instance, how is it that you two are allowed to even view the IP addresses of members? What other information are you privy to that EVEN THOSE WHO ARE VICTIMS OF THESE FOOLS HAVE NO INFORMATION OF? WHO ARE NOT EVEN BEING NOTIFIED THAT THEY'VE BEEN VICTIMIZED? MUST THEY KEEP 'CHECKING BACK' ON YOUR BLOGS TO SEE IF THE PERSON THEY'VE BEEN CORRESPONDING WITH - OUTSIDE MM EMAIL - IS REALLY A CREEP? If anyone should be made aware of the information regarding these guys, it's the FBI and those who are victims. That said, you and Ready have done some good work here. Just don't get too full of yourselves! Mark

Hi Mark! Thanks for adding me to your favs and the contact, but as you know, I am very busy employing the "McCarthy Tactics" to have replied. As far as going over the line, I have to disagree with you on that one. I do not feel that is possible when my main concern is for the safety of members. I am still beating my head against the wall, trying to recall the few times we have passed while walking down Mainstreet, Blogland..perhaps you can help me out on this one. I do not receive any privy information from MM. I report my findings to them as well as any IP address I might have. Everything I post on the blogs and forum is based solely on the information I have been able to obtain through contact with the scammers. I am very passionate about staying safe in CyberWorld. I work on a daily basis with victims of these scams and I have seen the devastation they cause....so if that is what you consider to be "full of myself", then so be it. Stay Safe! Britt

Alchem/Mark You are entitled to your opinion, as am I. What you deem to be "going over the line" is not the case at all, so we'll agree to disagree on that. I myself do not go off MM with these members, so I don't have access to their IP's, I rely on MM to do the checking out and if they're removed, then I post them. As far as members having to check to see who's been posted, that's entirely up to them, it's buyer beware online. As I've said before, I do this to help members, no other reason. Neither Britt nor I go much into the details on here as the scammers read and participate on the blogs and Forum. There's no need to educate them that's for sure. As to your concern that we don't get too full of ourselves, I wouldn't worry too much, it's not my style at all. I'll leave that to those with over inflated egos.

I so much appreciate that you are reporting these terrible abusive profiles. You have saved the rest of us from becoming innocent victoms. I know first hand about this! My girlfriend met a very dangerous phsyco on this site who threatened her life. She reported him. I just hope the MM took it seriously as his profile was never removed, but atleast she was able to post a warning. Thanks again for saving us from all the drama :)

I want you to know that I actually sent a comment to MM last year that they SHOULD give free membership to you and one other for your tenacity and care for all of us. The knowledge you share is highly appreciated and I THANK YOU for it!

Keep up the wonderful work you do, and although I have never been scammed, I think it's important that everyone learns and gets informed about the subject so as to avoid a painful experience like being scammed. Thanks again for doing all this hard work voluntarily.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their comments and words of encouragement. Just knowing that some members do appreceiate the work that Ready and I do, is validation enough for me. I have experienced first hand the emotional and financial devastation that the scammers can cause to their victims and I certainly would not wish that on anyone. Innocent people fall victim to these scammers everyday--yep, even the people who say, "It will never happen to me". I have always encouraged people to educate themselves about the scammers--it is virtually impossible for any dating site to be scammer free, scammers are becoming much more sophisticated, they steal profiles, photos and identities of REAL people and they have access to people all over the world by means of the internet. Scammers don't discriminate, they don't care where you live, they don't care that they cause you emotional pain or financial ruin--they are ruethless people--scamming is their business and they are succeeding in getting your money. Last year over 22 billion dollars was scammed out of US victims and I know that figure must be higher, because many people are too embarrassed to admit that they were scammed and they do not report it. Once again I encourage everyone to take a few minutes and educate yourself about scams and scammers--there is a wealth of info about this on the web. In the interim, I will continue to report and post and I hope you will too. My goal and passion is to help make this a safer dating site for everyone and hopefully find the man of my dreams someday. Stay safe! Britt

I would like to thank you all for your comments, I've not responded much as I just want the blogs to get calm again, but do appreciate the comments very much. I think when someone does something out of the norm, it is quite often misunderstood. I wished others who took the time to report would also post the culprits to warn others, but also realize not everyone wants to do this for various reasons. I look forward to a time as John has said, that members won't be needed and that automation and verification takes over. Thanks again!

I think R&B have done an amazing job, stopped a lot of scammers from causing problems for the not so wary. I think if MM wants to award them free membership, then great, well deserved, what gets my goat is those that complain and whinge about it, Geez i know how much time Barb has spent on behalf of all the others on this site . Think its time TO PUT UP AND SHUT UP PS John @MM Why doesnt your spell checker recognise the word 'scammer' But then MM doesnt either

Britt and Ready, I do hope that regardless you get a free membership or not... you will still help MM get rid of the scammers. I wonder what would some of the complaining souls think or how would they feel if THEY got scammed? Maybe they'd change their mind about the petty and cheap issues around the free memberships thing. It's pretty sad that just because some people feel MM is being "unethical" by giving free memberships to those who DO help and DO GOOD to this site instead of causing harm can't see all the GOOD WORK you've done, which results in everyone benefiting from it. In case nobody noticed it, both Britt and Ready EARNED their free membership. Just my opinion, of course. Hope people were more on the positive side instead of the negative side.

Unfortunately, both Brittany & Ready felt this was something that needed to be done in order to quell any questioning of impartiality of this company and what they do. As for your comments/questions, I'm creating a new blog and asking, no, make that begging, you to contact me there or by email so I can look into your concerns and questions.

Britt/Ready, I say who cares what other people think? Tell them to MYOB. JohnMM, as Bill says, now you get two more paid memberships for people working for you. Not fair as far as I am concerned. Also, I have sent suggestions for things as important as the grammatical errors on your front page, and just get a canned response back. I would think you would want to put your best foot forward on your front page, but maybe not. I think in the few years I have been here, I have never received a personal response to any of my emails to MM. That is sad.

LOL. And the winner is::: MM of course. Two more paying members who are also still working for them. I can't imagine anyone much caring if MM decides to give away some free memberships or not. It's their money. It's supposed to be a site for millionaires. How petty can people get????

I realize it might be difficult to come up with a system to sort out the scammers. But it should not be that difficult to check any new members ID, or even the IP addy. There must be a system that a site like this could use to lead the industry in safety for its members? It is nice that Ready and Britt are willing to do all this work for free, but will this stop those who are criticizing them? Somehow, this does not seem right....or fair. I appreciate the work that both these ladies have done to protect members from the pain and embarrassment of being scammed.

Sorry it has come to this. Like you said, the "Stuck in Africa" forum thread has existed for a very long time with no issues. What are there like 2800 posts in that thread? Ironically, what you were doing for the "protection of all" was misconstrewed (sp?) as flaunting your power. Blogland is indeed an odd place sometimes...

Hi everyone, Just to reiterate what has been posted here, Ready & Brittany have decided to request that we stop offering free memberships to them both. This was after there were some voiced concerns about favoritism and the like. Rest assured, there is no favoritism, and I just want to take this time to thank both Ready & Brittany for all of the hard work they had put in to help with this site. I hope that one day we'll never have to rely on human work to remove these repulsive individuals as it should become computerized. As well, just so no one is confused, we are still offering free memberships for increasing your circle of friends and submitting those quality suggestions. Thank you everyone, I hope this puts those who had concerns at ease.

Hello Everyone, It would appear from comments that some members are upset with MM providing me with free membership for reporting abusive members (scammers/trolls/pervs etc.). I feel very passionate about having these unsavory members removed so they don't have the opportunity to take advantage of members, so as of today, I am no longer accepting MM's free membership, but will continue to report as I always have done. I have reported when being a paid Preferred member, while accepting MM's offer of free membership and will continue on now paying my own membership, so no one feels that this is preferential treatment. This is nothing new that is being done, in fact they've been posted since Mar. '06 when another concerned member started the Scammer thread. The reason I post the removed members is to warn others who may have been in contact with these same members and to help educate those new to online dating. My own experience with a scammer is what got me interested and aware in the first place, fortunately I figured him out quickly and no monies were involved, although asked for. I do like helping people and it is my way of giving something back. This was previously done on the Forum on the Stuck in Africa Scam thread, but as many no longer visit the Forum since the inception of the Blogs, I suggested to Brittany2012 to post them on the Blogs for active members to see. I ask that you keep in mind that each and every profile posted has been investigated by MM, I am then informed of their removal and at that point, I post. I wish everyone the best of luck to find their special someone, and to be careful for your own safety. READY4UNOW
