It's nothing to worry about, folks, but I'm going to the ER. This is really gross, but over the last 4 or 5 days, I seem to have developed a cyst on my neck. I first unearthed this beast while shaving when it just looked like a pimple. Covered in shaving cream I forgot about it. What oozed out was a very foul smelling milky grossness. It's approaching the size of a ping-pong ball. It's even with and appx. two inches to the left of my adams apple. I'm in a ridiculous amount of pain and I'm speculating (Thanks to RG and webMD) that is because it is sitting over a lymph... Hopefully, this won't have an effect on my modeling career. LOL! Like I said, not to worry, and I'll post an update as soon as I get home. Just please do me a tiny favor and send positive thoughts my way. In the mean time, let's have some creative fun and try to think of a name for this (and hopefully soon to be departed) beast... James and the Giant Peachpit? Any takers? Well, off I go!

I hope you are better. I found with Vicodin that if you break it in half and take half every 2 hours instead of a whole every 3-4 it helps much better with pain management. Don't know why they don't prescribe that way. It even makes sense! Deb that makes sense only if half the amout of that medication is taking care of the pain. If you are taking Norco 10/500mg(vicodin) then you are taking (1/2) 5mg/250mg every 2 hrs. You do not get the full benefit but you do keep a maintenance dose in the body at all times of taking. People will take pills every 4 hrs but they will not maintain every 2hrs. That's why it's never prescribed that way. It basically just tells you that the 10 is too strong the 5 would do. If you take only half of that then a good pain reliever at walmarts would work as well. This is strictly psychological. It's like when we had a $500 bill every month i would pay it every 2 weeks. It's really the same but it sure made me feel better only getting rid of $250 instead of $500 at one time...:o))))))

Re: virgogem write: So THAT was fun! I don't really understand why they couldn't do this at the ER, but today's trip to the Surgical Clinic was where they shot the area with novacane, lanced it, and let the gunky grossness ooze out. At the ER, they flecked at the scab with a scalpel and applied pressure to it untill tears shot out of my eyes. Shuddering at the thought They didn't tell me not to work, but they did tell me to take it easy because they put something in it to make sure the wound stays open so it can drain completely. It should come out by itself in the shower tomorrow. Work was very understanding and let me take the night off. Cheffing can be a full contact sport at times, especially on a weekend night. The good news is I'm feeling better about my modeling career! LOL! If it takes a honkin' big scar on my neck to be sexy, then who am I to argue? (Sexier than I already am, that is!) At the moment, it's once again covered with a thick guaze which has a lot of my blood on it. That's attractive! Maybe I'll go to the mall and scare people. Joking, of course...

This reminds me that not everyone is comfortable performing thier own minor surgery. My mom was a nurse, thusly, if it needs lanced and disinfected . . I do it myself. ONLY if the surrounding skin becomes more inflamed (or those stupid little red streaks appear) or there is no initial opening do I even bother with a doc or antibiotics. (Note: it doesn't work if you have another lingering health problem like diabetes. My mom tried it once after having had diabetes for years. It got her a 2 week stay in a hospital and lyposuction. The ingrown hair became a MASSIVE infection and fed off her fat. She had an infection larger than the circumference of my waist.) Then again, I have been known to treat sinus infections with copious amounts of sudefed, advil, and vitamin C. Painful, but effective. OKay, I'm done with the christmas eve medical horror stories.

James, just one more word of caution on the Vics. They are made of codeine, and, well, codeine can cause severe constipation. In fact, it will make you forget all about the pain in your neck? (Maybe it's intentional?) Anyway, if you get blocked up, take a mild laxative, and drink plenty of liquids. Oh God, I sound like a doctor now. But hey, I DID diagnose you, didn't I? One of my many talents....

SCAK....James,,my work here is done ! Ok this is gross so "sensitive people " please dont go to the next few paragraphs.... So when you laughed,,,did it pump gunk out ? Why didnt they just express ( squeeze) out the pus ??? ( or remove it with a needle and syringe ? ) While I was doing animal rescue/rehab,,,I had to lance and drain a large number of abcesses.Common problem with injured wildlife. The Vets showed me how. SImple and effective. NOw THAT was gross. At a certain stage..there is always a place where it will be "extra soft" and usually hot. Sterlize a LARGE needle, and push it DEEP into the abcess at its softest point. You wont feel anything because its just a void filled with liquid. Withdraw the needle and gently press the outter edges of the abcess.BE prepared to remove the gunk that comes out,,,and it can be copius amounts and very stinky. IF you lanced the right place...it will drain rather quickly. BUT if its big, it will need further lancing to keep the wound open for draining. Thats what a vet usually installs a little tube into the abcess..otherwise it closes up for a refill ! One of my cats got bitten on the cheek during a cat fight...several days late he had a giant second face growing,,I barely touched it and...welll, I almost threw up dealing with that one. NO more barbis head for you young man.

Hi everyone! They were fun, but I'm off the vicodins. I say this not to imply, even for a second, that I'm in my right mind! haha! I am of course still on the antibiotics and my body seems to be getting used to them. I have to see some surgical dude tomorrow. I wrote all the info down (time, date, place, and names) but I was doin' the vicodin dance. In other words, I can't find the damn piece of paper! (note to self- call hospital later. lol) Auno- Thank you, I don't mind any kind of hug! Mea- Wow! Harrison Ford? (So I've got that going for me... which is nice...) CB- Ding Ding! You are absolutely correct! Can you imagine? One hair, so much pain.... genie- Thank you for thinking of me! And yes, lots and lots of vitamin C and water! T.- Do you think a story involving vicious wild dogs and defenseless babies would be a little over the top? You mentioned Santa, and he's already working his magic in that for the first time in many, many years I'll be spending Christmas with my family AND NOT WORKING!!!!!! Shaz- Oh my God you're funny! I thought people only joked about SCAK (spitting coffee at keyboard), but when I got to Barbi heads, I launched! (I think my neck did too... eeewwww!) Tink- My fettle is fine now, thank you! Love that word. Fettle. You'll never hear it on this side of the pond. HONEY- Maybe that's why it hurt so damned much. LOL! The ornament came complete with lights, bells, and whistles! Thank you for mentioning my attitude. I borrowed this from the movie Vanilla Sky, but I believe this to the core : Good things will happen if you are a good person with a good attitude... Elaine- So nice to hear from you! It's not completely gone, but it's slowly draining like it's supposed to. And how are YOU young lady? justKathi- Love that! Juicy! Kitten- Woof woof WOOF! I know you speak dog, but still I'll translate: Puppy hugs ROCK! Thanks! Robtest- It's been a while, dude but thanks for chiming in! (Side note- that RUSH concert I went to was the best I've ever seen and heard and that was the18th time for me! They're announcing more tour dates for '08. Highly recommend that you see them.) StaphloWha? It was a boil, an infected abcess. And hands down the most disgusting thing I've ever smelled.... Debbie- Much better thank you! I'm really proud of my ability to manage pain, but this was a new realm. Hence, the vics. A great mind thinks alike. I cut those pills in half and took them the way you were suggesting since I filled the scrip! Nice! I'll update after tomorrow's follow up... Big time hugs to all of you and thanks for caring. It means a lot! James.

deb that is a good idea ! I was on those monsters from sept 18th of 2001 until oct of 2002. Nothing like a vicious bout of meningitis followed by a shattered ankle and a few major operations to fix it. I was in total pain,,I just didnt care ! I am SO thankful I dont have an addictive physiology ! I was attending Plumbing Apprectice Training at the time and vics could always be found. So many in the trades get baddly injured, take prescribed drugs and end up addicted. BUT the real beatch of vics is that THEY CAN INDUCE psychosis and can do it without any warning at any time even if youve never had a prob previously. I went off the deep end back in 2005 when prescribed vics for repeated major dental surgery. I was living alone at the time and not working so I wasnt around people on adaily basis for anyone to spot it. I ended up destroying several very important relationships, did some really out of charactor things and deeply hurt some people I truly loved. And even though they accepted my apology and logically understood what had happened,,,,to this day I havent been able to repair the damages. The worst part is that I do not remember what it was I said or did. James,.,,,if your roomates tell you that you are behaving strangley or you begin to get weird notions...CALL YOUR DOCTOR ASAP and alert him/her/

uhhh,,,those vicodens carry a few serious issues,,and I DO know. DOn take more than you are prescribed,,you WILL GET sick. Take then at the intervals prescribed,,they DONT work well once the pain gets bad. They CAN be highly addictive IF one has a pre-disposition to addiction ( I never had this to deal with) And one can develope drug -induced psychosis,,,and you will THINK you are perfectly normal ! You must have turbo-charged infection reactions..usually takes a while for cysts to get that big. GET WELL !

virgogemicitis From the symptoms, I would guess a staph infection or maybe even methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus ??? There seems to be a lot of that going around in recent times. Hopefully you got something a little stronger (though probably less entertaining) to help clear it up.

V I C O D I N R U L E S !!!!!!! Sorry to just blurt that out. I'm okay, I just need a little time because these vics are kinda kicking my ass. (But in a groovy way...) At the moment I'm lightheaded, a little dizzy, and apparently I've got diarrhea to look foward to. The blob is getting smaller, and I'll give you all an update when my head is a little clearer. Thank you all for caring! James.

Your attitude is great. It's just an ingrown Christmas ornament, silly. It will heal well. My dermatologist developed her own cream that could not be purchased by prescription as it was her and hers alone. It was hers and hers alone made of just copper in a base to suspend it over the wound. I used it twice a day on third degree wounds on my hand and the healing was perfect. No scar. Ask about it if you can. May God heal you and Merry Christmas, _HONEY
