Yes, I am bored. I was researching data on what to do with my body when I'm dead. I am an organ donor, but that started when my organs were in their 20s. I'm not sure I have any good organs for donating, and I would guess there would still be a lot of body left over. I don't feel like being buried, that is to say I don't feel like being in the family plot, especially when we are spread across the country now. I jokingly told my son I was going to be cremated and put into an gaudy urn with written instructions to display me in his living room for a minimum of 7 years. Now, you have even more choices. You can have a sculpture made from your ashes, you can also have a diamond made from your carbon, you can have your ashes under glass, you can have a biodegradable coffin, etc. So what DO you want to be when YOU are dead??

Re: thenewman write: i am an organ donor too...i feel bad for whoever gets my liver...lol... i have thought about cremation, as i do not want my body to take up any land when i am gone...my prob with cremation is i assoicate fire with the devil (i'm serious)...so cremation mayy not be an option....i guess i could be thrown in a blender and chopped up to liquid form a flushed down the toilet...kind of makes sense as i have been shit on so much...lol...ooops i cussed

Newman, silly...your soul isn't going to be there when your flesh burns. It's going to turn to ash and dust anyway...why prolong the inevitable. Now with all the embalming fluids it just takes FOREVER and what a gross thought of worms and maggots eating your rotted flesh! ICK!! I'd like to donate whatever can be use then creamate the rest and have my ashes flung over some great cliff overlooking one of my most favorite ocean views (quietly of course as this probably isn't allowed). Then, if anyone wants to remember me, they can sit and look at this lovely view instead of some eery graveyard or headstone. (I know some nature/ocean lovers are going to probably chastize me for icking up the earth with this comment about throwing off some water balance in the ocean and the PH levels and ecosystem being disrupted if everyone did this...but I won't be here to hear it if I'm dead!)

Good question Nauti. None of the options really inspire me. I dont want to be burnt in case I feel it, I dont want to be buried in the cold hard earth on my own. I most certainly dont want to be stuffed, actually I cant think of anything worse. I dont want to be jewellery particularly. I think I'll just have to go on living until something better comes along!

Newman, I'm right there with ya...no one needs my liver, except maybe David Crosby! This blog got me thinking, always dangerous territory. There will be a great party with some fabulous wines. At which point I want my ashes put into two of the wine bottles and one to be given to each of my sons. They will be obligated to carry me with them where ever they go. Someone has to keep an eye on those rascals! ;)

My Father-in-Law always said he wanted to be Stuffed and stood in the corner so he could see what was going on...Some one else said they wanted to be buried at the end of the lane so the could watch who comes and goes... I said I would move if someone did that. Always wanted to go to Maine, so said bury me there if I died first.. So I would get there one way or the other.. I be dead so no worries.. said just dig a hole and plant me.. dust to dust.

They have options for you too! You can have your ashes mixed with gunpower for a fireworks display; shooting your ashes into the universe. Or, you can have your ashes put into a helium balloon and set free. At a certain altitude, the balloon will explode and your ashes are gone with the wind....

Re: Mariana2005 write: LOL Nauti!! It's what I'd call a Halloween blog! I'm an organ donor too, not just to save other people's lives but for research as well, the rest will be cremated and the ashes thrown in the open sea. Did I ever mention I love the ocean? Anyway, I will de 100% dead so I won't be really worried about what happens to me then :D

Mariana ~ Yes, maybe Halloween had something to do with it. As I was thinking of all the different options, I came across a site where you can have a cam and lights installed in your casket!!!!

Re: Shazzie2 write: Nautigal, I feel now I'm torn as to what to do with my corpse? Will I have it preserved in flamaldrohyde in a casket, or cremated. When my father passed, my mother and I made the arrangements. Purchased a plot as they seem to be getting very expensive and shortage of land. If I don't remarry, then I have an option to be with them, on the other hand, Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, so cremation is another option for me.. and I too want my ashes scattered if possible to the sea, or off of roof from one of my favourite places to be.. Just hope nobody swallows some because of the downwind..

I know exactly what you mean. As I don't see myself remarrying, the decision is mine. You can go without embalming fluid, without the concrete vault. I was interested in going GREEN.

BnS you have already discovered what I am in researching. I have always meant to video tape my farewell speech, pick the music and pictures displayed. I am not a control freak, I just know me best and want love at my memorial/funeral. We can be in total control. We have choices as never before. Why let someone else struggle with what they "hope" you would have wanted?

Nautigal, I don't find this subject morbid at all, why burden someone else with the decision? Hopefully whatever can be harvested from my body will be and the rest is to be cremated. My ashes are to be scattered over the family property and the other half in the ocean. I set up a trust to pay for everything as well as a big party. The dead have no worries, no? I have a rather sick story to share, however. A friend's Mother died recently--she was a truly unpleasant woman. Sometimes a mother-daughter relationship can be difficult. My friend, feeling that her Mother was evil did not want to keep her ashes so she crept down to Green Lake (in Seattle as you know) in the wee hours of the morning and dumped her ashes at the edge of the lake. The next day was Sunday and to her absolute horror, there was a baptism in the very same spot. SSS
