Before posting this I took an hour of my time to better understand where the blog quack stands. Here's what I found. Martin Gardner, who has made a career out of defending science and deflating paranormal claims, helps explain both the allure and the deception of The Urantia Book and the religion it has spawned. He gives us a meticulous account that traces the personalities and philosophies that account for the supposedly supernatural revelation given in the book. Gardner, who is a theist not associated with any particular religious tradition, does not provide a theological assessment that compares The Urantia Book with any normative theological system. Rather, he engages in a sustained historical and scientific investigation of the books claims. First appearing in 1955, The Urantia Book is a mammoth tome that credits no human author. Rather, it claims to have been assembled by extraterrestrial entities. The 2097-page volume gives a fantastically convoluted and obscure account of cosmology, anthropology, theology, and history. Yet, in this opacity lies much of its fascination. Students of the book claim that they have received an esoteric dispensation that eludes the masses. Because of the books sheer bulk, it supplies endless details on cosmology, theology, and anthropology not mentioned in other religious scriptures. Herein lies its putative superiority. The relatively small number of Urantia devotees, despite their idiosyncratic beliefs, are not to be considered cultists in a pejorative sociological sense. Unlike other groups with similar teachings, it does not have an authoritarian structure of leadership, nor do its followers typically engage in high-pressure proselytizing. The main appeal is intellectual. Religious activities are largely based on studying The Urantia Book. Despite these qualifications, the book itself leaves much to be desired as a suitable object of religious instruction and veneration. To attempt to fathom The Urantia Book, one must descend into a dark and foreboding labyrinth of quirky terminology, pseudoscientific pronouncements, and revisionist ideas about Jesus. In barest outline, the book informs us that God is a Trinity of Trinities, that humans are unfallen beings who have a divine spark within them (called a Thought Adjuster), that they can become fused with God through evolutionary development, and that Jesus death on the cross did not atone for human sin against God. To summarize, it is a kind of space age Gnosticism claiming to update orthodox Christianity. Gardners well-researched conclusion is that The Urantia Book lacks any supernatural credibility. Its contents can be explained on the basis of purely terrestrial authors; its scientific claims were either common knowledge at the time or plain wrong; and it contains numerous plagiarisms (even stealing from Bertrand Russell). Urantia: The Great Cult Mystery is the most exhaustive critique of the movement yet published. It will help readers to understand many patterns of deception found in many other new religious groups as well.

lmao IROC...... I tried to look at this book with an open mind. I honestly didnt know what to expect from it. I cant even get passed the part that the book was written my non human form celestial beings channeling through some man in a coma! Sadler happened to be the one who heard this man rambling and wrote it all down... and it's known today as the Urantia book. lmao I think comics are too good for this one. I was thinking maybe toilet paper would have been a better place to print these revelations. At least it would reach its intended audience.!!

VL, You refer to the Urantia book as if its 100% accurate and truthful. Its far from it. WHY would I think that because its printed in this book that its indeed factual? Personally I think your so far out there that it doesnt matter what anyone says. It reminds me of people who've been brain washed and cannot see things with a broad spectrum.

Pauline, {{hugs}} back to you! I agree with what you said to. Ignorance runs rampid at times. VL, DONT tell me I dont "get it". Suddenly you're an expert on Aethists?? The cry baby who cant handle anyone name calling is the first to stand up do the same thing. YOU ASSSUME ALOT of money was made by the person who wrote that article. YOU assume he has an agenda. YOU assume so much that you're starting to smell like the ASS in assume. Where is your PROOF showing that celestial being wrote this book? PROOF beyond a doctor saying he heard some man in a coma speaking these messages? lmfao thats your proof??? You're gullible. As for all the other crap you shared in your comment I say blah blah blah... Purely your interpretation and speculation based on what YOUUUUUUUUU deem to be truthful. For instance and I copied and pasted this from your comment: Astrology is not real. Ghosts and apparations are not real. Hell is not real How the hell do you KNOW???? You're belief in something has bent your perception. YOU do NOT KNOW any of the above to be factual. You're understanding of what's truthful is clouded and closed off. Nothing wrong with believing in or not believing in anything. BUT for you to think you can tell others what is and what is not based on YOU'RE on truths is ridiculous. I dont give a rats ass where you stand on anything. To each their own. When you step out of your box and tell others they are wrong, especially me, for believing what I think is truthful you will get an ear full from me. Unlike you, I dont delete comments made on my blogs because I dont worry what others will think of me, or what I write. YOU'RE narrowminded and it forces you to delete things that you cant handle hearing. Good, bad, or indifferent. As for what Ive learned about my my faith and divine father.... isn't open for discussion with you. People comment on you in negative ways NOT because they're negative people. YOU draw out an instant defense mechanism, and for most women its more than that,we're instantly leary of someone like you. NOT because you cant be understood. More like you're too closed off in your own little world. YOU control that not us. YOU cant see far enough past yourself to understand how you're perceived. YOU assume it has to be those perceiving you that are clearly misunderstanding you. Surely you're not that niave. Then again? P.S. oh yea, plus you whine to much. women aren't attracted to men that whine about nonsense. Man up VL!

YW UPTOWNGIRL.... I think if someone is going to share things with others and call it factual and truthful they need to fully disclose ALL sides of it. To allow others to walk blindly into areas that garner much debate, and speculation without warning them is extremely misleading. Im shedding light in the dark area where others refuse to look at. Life throws enough shadows into our paths... I dont need to add my own and stumble and fall when its not necessary.
